The Best Liquid Blush for the Ultimate Summer Glow

Move over creams and powders — a new formulation is taking over.
June 08, 2022

Summer has a tendency to send everyone running to powder formulations to complete their favorite makeup looks. Between the humid air and hot sun, liquid formulas run the risk of, well, running. But any true makeup lover knows that you’re not tethered to powders — especially when it comes to blush.

Whether you’re wearing a full face of glam or simply want to add a natural-looking flush to your cheeks, liquid blush is the perfect go-to. The lightweight formula lets you achieve next level looks without suffocating your skin. Keep reading to learn more about our favorite liquid blush to get us through the warm season and beyond.

What Does Liquid Blush Do?

Liquid blush does exactly what the best powder blush and best cream blush can do. The difference is in the formula — liquid blush has a loose, water-based texture where the others are more solid form. Also called cheek tints and cheek stains, liquid blush can warm up the complexion and add a pop of color to the face — and that’s not concentrated to just the cheeks.

Liquid blush can be used to add a flush to the cheeks as well as a wash of color to the eyelids and the lips. The L’Oréal Paris Glow Paradise Lip and Cheek Tint is a lip gloss-meets-liquid blush multitasker. The weightless blush is infused with rose extracts and aloe and leaves a sheer wash of glowing color that looks natural. It’s non-comedogenic so even those with sensitive and acne-prone skin can give it a try, plus it hydrates. That’s why it’s the best liquid blush to complete your favorite summertime makeup looks.

Is Liquid Blush Better Than Cream Blush?

When it comes to whether liquid blush is better than cream blush it really comes down to preference. For some blush lovers, certain times of the year — or beauty looks — will call for liquid blush and some for cream. At the end of the day, one is neither better or worse than the other, it’s all about what you like and the quality of the blush you’re using.

As skin types are concerned, the Glow Paradise Lip and Cheek Tint has been tested under dermatological control and is suitable for all skin types. So you can use it even if you have oily skin — just be mindful of not placing it on areas that tend to get really slick throughout the day, which can ruin your look. If you have dry skin you may opt for liquid blush since it won’t cling to dry patches or appear dull.

If you need a satin blush with a creamy consistency, try the L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Makeup Radiant Satin Blush with Camellia Oil. That dose of camellia oil gives it a soft texture that finishes like a powder without caking or drying out.

How to Apply Liquid Blush

Now that you know a little more about liquid blush and one of our favorite liquid blushes to use throughout the year, you’re likely ready to put it to use. Luckily, applying liquid blush is quite easy. Whether you’re draping your blush or blush contouring, just follow the basic steps below to get the most out of your blush color.

Step 1. Let Your Base Products Dry

If you’re applying blush over other makeup, finish that makeup first and allow it to dry before applying blush. If you’re keeping your makeup minimal and skipping base products, go straight to the next step.

Step 2. Blend Little By Little

Dispense a pea-size amount of blush onto your finger and then blend it onto the skin.

Step 3. Tap With A Gentle Touch

Using your fingers, gently tap and pat the blush into the desired areas, building up the color as you go.

Editor’s tip: Start with as little blush as possible and build it up to your desired look. Remember, it’s a lot easier to add more color than to take it down without ruining the rest of your makeup.

Can You Apply Powder Over Liquid Blush?

The answer is yes, you can — but we don’t recommend it. If you like to set your makeup with powder, well, to each their own. But be warned: Topping off liquid makeup with powder can cause streaks and splotches. It’s best to set your makeup with like formulas, so if you used liquid blush then finish your look with a similar consistency.

The L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray and Set Make-Up Oil-Free Setting Spray will extend the life of your look without settling into lines, clogging your pores or causing your makeup to streak or run.
