When it comes to picking high performance beauty products, people often overlook drugstore picks for their luxury counterparts. But any true mascara lover will tell you that price isn’t a factor — the best mascaras don’t have to cost a fortune. Eva Longoria agrees — which is why the actress, producer, philanthropist and L’Oréal Paris spokesperson recently gave fans a treat when she shared a video of herself on social media trying several different drugstore mascaras. Her experiment came from a realization that she’d been using the same mascara for so long that it might be time to try something new. 

“But do they really do what they say they’re going to do?” she asks at the top of the two-minute clip. 

In the video Longoria tries six different mascaras over the course of a few days to see if they deliver — no filters, enhancements, or falsies. She also shares her favorite pick — which only costs $9 — and her must-have mascara if she were stranded on a desert island.

The L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara is the A-lister’s tried-and-true mascara. Formulated to resist clumping and thicken the appearance of lashes, it’s perfect for someone who wants dramatic lashes without eyelash extensions.

“It really separates [lashes],” she says. “I always find this one’s easy to add a lot of coats.”

The conditioner makes it a highly buildable formula, which Longoria was excited about, and really makes her lashes pop.

“This does what it says!” Longoria tells viewers with excitement. “There’s fibers in the formula — that’s pretty cool.” And even though she didn’t follow the directions on the packaging exactly, her results were still remarkable.
