It is absolutely terrible now. It clumps and is impossible to remove now. If I wanted a waterproof mascara, I would buy the waterproof version. With so much push-back, you would be making a good business decision to go back to the former formula. It’s almost like the new Coke debacle. I won’t be wasting my money on this new, terrible version of my once beloved mascara. I am sad and disappointed, and apparently are so many other once loyal users.

It used to be more purple and now it is burgundy with very reddish undertones. Also it now flakes off throughout the day and leaks mascara flakes in my under eye area. I even went out and bought another tube just thinking it was a fluke. I am so sad the formula has changed because now I won’t buy this mascara anymore.

I have been using the Volumizing in black for about 20 years & advised many of my friends to this because they loved my lashes showing so long as though they were fake and NOW I can't believe they changed the formula. The brush is the same but the mascara is really clumpy when it comes out of the tube even separating the bristles & on my eyes especially on my lower lashes. After buying 3 different tubes from 3 different stores to see if it was the mascara or the date on the tube or something else I have to say they all were the same. I will now be buying another brand.

Washing it off is not possible any longer with soap and water. Residue remains on the lashes and under the eye.L’Oreal have made it water resistant. Nothing about these changes are for the better. I will have to change product.

I used a daily combination of the original (grey tube), the carbon black and the white primer. I SWORE by these and refused to use or even try anything else. I referred so many to try these—and said that they’d never go back to another mascara again. This formula change was an EPIC fail. This mascara is not even close to what it used to be. In fact it doesn’t even deliver OK results. It clumps up horribly, doesn’t give any volume, and drys out so fast. So I’ve now jumped on the list of loyal users who are also searching to find another mascara. L’Oréal you have broken the millions of hearts of those who swore by this mascara. To sum this up—PLEASE go BACK to the old formula.

I am now out well over $!00 because the formula has changed and is absolutely nothing like it use to be. Changed from 5x to 15x and I had no idea mascara could change that much. I don't understand why companies change a good product and only seem to make it horrible. If it is to save 10 cent per item in manufacturing I hope it worked out for them because it certainly didn't work out for me. I am so so so disappointed that they have changed the formula. I can no longer use this brand or mascara because this new formula smells like gasoline, burns my eyes, it clumps, flakes all over my face, and inside my eyes, which irritates it, when I try to wash it off, it doesn’t come off and it flakes even more. I hate the waterproof formula and this is worse than that now my eyes become red, swollen and watery. They have ruined a perfectly good mascara. Have you never heard of the saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” I cannot believe you guys would change up a cult favorite on us like this. PLEASE go back to the old formula. PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS. WE ARE ALL REVIEWING THE SAME THING AND SAYING THE SAME THING. This complaint is also all over Reddit forums and make up forums.

I was very pleased recently to discover that the formula had been updated to remove the parabens and eagerly purchased a tube. However, unfortunately, in just the first week, I counted 5 eyelashes that fell out while trying to remove the mascara. It is too difficult to remove. I am 53 and my lashes are getting more sparse in general, so I cannot afford to lose eye lashes at that rate. I need to stop using this mascara once again. Too bad.

I just opened a brand new tube, and the performance is abysmal: no volume whatsoever. I don't notice quite as much irritation from this mascara as I do some others. However, when I try to remove this, I sometimes lose lashes, and that is concerning. I wish there were a way to mitigate this. This mascara is also easy to apply, and that's a very important factor when I choose a mascara.

The mascara is now impossible to get off my eyelashes. I actually thought that I accidentally bought waterproof mascara. Nope! I have tried several different eye makeup removal methods and plain soap and water. Nothing works. The mascara also flakes everywhere. It irritates my eyes and forget being able to wear contacts with it. I am so sad but I will have to change to a different brand.

It is a shame because your formula was incredible for so many years, did not need the fibers, I don't see a positive difference with the fibers just annoyance on removal and sometimes I just don't want the fibers on my lashes. So no benefit of adding them. please go back to the old formula or revise your marketing accordingly, as it's not the same original formula

Now, there clearly is a new formulation: the tube displays a gold band around it, the mascara itself is "stickier" and can much easily remove your eye lashes when taking this off. The old formulation (non waterproof) easily came off in water, which was helpful for removal. Now, the new non-waterproof formulation is very stick and hard to remove. Additionally, my eye lids, skin around my eyes, face, have become red, itchy, & inflamed due to the new formulation.

My lashes are still longer but not as full. It's harder to remove form my lashes as well. I'm on the hunt for a new mascara and not L'oreal voluminous 15X. I've used 5X mascara for years and always received compliments on my lashes. So sad you changed it.

Just like (maybe even better) than Original LOreal Voluminous. It's a shame L'Oreal messed with their Original winning formula. If it "ain't broke, don't fix it." Try Bare Minerals Lashtopia for replacement of our former favorite mascara.

I cannot believe that L'Oreal changed this formula without changing the packaging or the name...seems disingenuous at best. The new formula is a tubing mascara (read: tears out your lashes, flakes, cannot build on itself...not anything long-time fans of this mascara want). The questions are (1) will they bring back the true ORIGINAL Voluminous (or continue to waste people's time, money, lashes) and (2) if not, why would you do this to a loyal client base?

It seems like there is less in the tube, it doesn't go on smooth, and seems old from the start. I'm disappointed in the change and will have to find another favorite.

Before i was able to curl my lashes hours later and had no issues, i tey now and the curler gets stuck to my lashes it even pulledsome out becausei had to pull gaed in order to take it apart. Will no longer be purchasing this mascara and Im sad because I would get so many compliments about my eyelashes.

However, I’ve noticed a change in the formula recently. Over the past three weeks, I’ve purchased the mascara three times, thinking that the formula in my previous bottles may have dried out. However, I am still experiencing the same issues: the mascara has become clumpy and is much more difficult to wash off. I’ve never encountered these problems with this product before and it’s been a staple in my routine for decades. I was always asked what mascara do you use or are your lashes real. Not anymore. Could you let me know if there has been any recent change to the formula? If so, bring back the original formula.

Recently it feels like the formula has changed. It smudges, flakes, and now it’s very difficult to wash off. I thought I made a mistake and bought the waterproof, but it’s the original. I liked how easy it used to wash off without makeup remover. Now even with makeup remover, it’s not completely gone. Very disappointing.

I have bought this mascara for over a decade, and it WAS the best. This decision to change the formula is worse than those who changed Coca-Cola to New Coke in the 80s. You have to be hemorrhaging customers.

When I first learned those were discontinued I went everywhere and bought up all the old formuIa mascara I could find. Alas, I have used them up no si I have tried a few other L'Oreal mascaras and none of them comes close to what I used for many, many years. I agree with the other reviewers that this is not the same mascara, only "improved." I am tired of throwing away money on trying to find a mascara that works for me.

Super disappointed. Feel a little tricked. They already have a waterproof mascara, why make the washable one also waterproof? When I try and wash this stuff off it’s nearly impossible. Always have makeup leftover on my eyes, even when I’ve done a couple of washes.

However, the formula has changed. WHY?? I have bought 2…thinking the first one was a fluke. No, it wasn’t! It is very thick and comes out of the tube very clumpy! It is nothing like the original formula! It doesn’t come off easily with makeup remover…I actually thought I had bought the waterproof, but no! My eyelashes actually feel not soft, but stiff! I’m going to have to find a new mascara, I won’t continue to use this. I’m loyal to a brand, but not L’Oréal anymore!!

I bought the new one, and it is NOT the same as the original. It comes out of the tube in big clumps and seems dry. It does not go on like the original. It doesn’t come off at night with makeup remover as the original did. There is still mascara there and my lashes feel stiff even after removing it, or trying to! I have long lashes and have always loved L’Oréal, I’ve bought 2 tubes of the new formula it thinking the first was just a fluke, but no. I do NOT like it at all.

I’m not sure if the formula changed when the packaging changed, however, I will be throwing away the Package of three that I purchased, and trying to find a “Washable“; Non-flaking; Non-clumping mascara. The mascara does not come off with water, and even with eye makeup remover it is difficult to remove. The new mascara clumps and breaks off, I have actually lost some eyelash length. Why the formula needed to be altered, is beyond me. Unfortunately, after 15+ years, I will be researching and purchasing a new brand of mascara.

My eyes got extremely irritated and swollen, so I think I'm allergic to whatever changed :( ugh

The mascara with the gold band says “original”, but it is far from the original. The true original does not have the gold band, and I’m unable to find it in stores.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Bad mascara from Quality of mascara - POOR After many years of using your product, Voluminous Mascara, i find that it now flakes, does not give me the volume it use to. Also to remove, I use makeup wipes. The mascara flakes, where I need to wash my eyes twice after using the wipes, to remove all the flakes/mascara. I am going to change brands. When I called, a sweet soft voiced person with a thick accent tried to help me. Very difficult to understand her. Not sure what she wanted me to do, return product???don't know. Didn't quite understand her with her sweet soft voice and accent.

The formula has changed, and I absolutely hate it. I purchased it 2 times, thinking I must have bought the waterproof formula, but I did not. It's nothing like the original. It doesn't provide the same look, it's irritating, and horrible to remove, and breaks off my lashes. Please bring back the original.
