Beautiful skin is skin that is clean, nourished and protected against daily environmental and lifestyle stressors. If you lead a busy life, beautiful skin may seem unattainable. You may think you don’t have the time, energy or funds available to have glowing skin like the celebrities or models you see in magazines and on television. Still, while you may not have a glam squad at the ready, you can have beautiful skin. Many habits and skin care steps you’re already doing may simply just have to be adjusted to foster more beautiful skin.
Wash with tepid water. Instead of stepping into a shower of steaming hot water, opt for a more tepid temperature. The temperature of hot water decreases lipid functionality in the skin barrier, thus allowing for more moisture to leave the skin, which promotes skin dryness, So, whether you’re washing your skin in the shower or cleansing your face at the sink, use lukewarm water. Also, take into account how much time you spend in the shower; as five to ten minutes is actually your optimal shower length.
Exfoliate regularly. Slough away dead surface cell build up that can cause your skin to look dull and feel dry. You can use either a mechanical or chemical exfoliating method for your face for beautiful, smooth skin. Consider trying a glycolic acid formula that will dissolve away surface buildup of dead skin cells to reveal fresh, younger cells and glowing skin. Some glycolic acid formulas are gentle enough for daily use, but typically for most skin types it is recommended that you exfoliate two to three times a week. For smooth skin from head to toe, also exfoliate your body and be sure to cover areas that tend to be rough and dry like your elbows, knees and ankles. You can make a DIY sugar scrub for your body by combining brown sugar and olive oil until it reaches a scrub-like consistency.
Moisturize while skin is still damp. If your skin is dry or looks lackluster you may be taking too long to moisturize your skin after cleansing or showering. The optimal time to moisturize is while skin is still damp so that the moisture from your serums, face creams and body lotions can be locked in while your pores are clean and open.
Protect your skin with SPF. Beautiful skin is skin that is protected from the damage that sun’s harmful rays can cause; including some common signs of skin aging like wrinkles, age spots and sagging skin. To encourage beautiful skin, apply an SPF with broad spectrum protection formulated for your face to your face, neck and chest about thirty minutes before sun exposure. Also, apply SPF to other areas of your skin that will be exposed, including your hands, feet, and tops of ears.
Cater to your skin’s needs. If you experience dry skin, oiliness or have a few skin aging concerns, allot a little extra time in your morning or nighttime skin care routine to address your individual skin needs. If you have dry or mature skin, consider trying a facial oil and if your skin is oily you might want to try out a clay mask. You don’t have to spend a ton of time, just put in a little concentrated effort to foster more beautiful skin results.
Take care of your skin; keep it nourished and protected and you might be surprised to find that beautiful skin is well within your reach.
