The 4th of July is just around the corner—and along with the chance to show off your most spirited desserts and your best grilling skills comes the opportunity to have some fun with your makeup. Instead of applying your everyday no makeup, makeup look, why not be a little playful with patriotic colors? If you’re ready to watch this year’s firework display while rocking a red, white, and blue makeup look, you’re in luck because we’ve come up with 15 ways to stylishly embrace the holiday’s most important shades. Follow along to find out how to master these gorgeous 4th of July makeup trends!
Let your eyes steal the show with this super-fun eye makeup look that combines red, white, and blue into a single look.
Help create a smooth base for your eye makeup application by using a primer first. If you don’t have an eye primer on hand, you can dab a tiny bit of concealer onto your lids.
Start your statement eye look with the lightest color since it will be the easiest to blend. Dip a fluffy eye shadow brush into the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Petite Perle and extend it just past your crease.
Trace along the contour of your lash line with a thick line of red liquid eyeliner that flicks up beyond the outer corner of your eye.
Using a densely-bristled eye shadow brush, apply red eye shadow in your crease mimicking the curve of your wing tip. Blend the eye shadow up toward your eyebrow line, nearly touching the front of your eyebrow before curving down and out under the tail, leaving room for highlighter. When applying your eye shadow, make sure to keep the space on your lid below your crease completely clean so as to maintain the sharp cut of your statement look.
Editor’s tip: Don’t think you can manage to keep your lids clean? Clean up with a little concealer and more white eye shadow!
Dab a dot of your shimmery white eye shadow at the inner corners of your eyes and just under the arch of your eyebrows.
Next, dip a precision eye shadow brush into the L’Oréal Paris Infallible 24 HR Eye Shadow in Midnight Blue to coat your lower lash line with color. Once you’ve applied a line of color, use a fluffier eye shadow brush to blend it out, creating a slight ombré effect.
Use the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints Eyeliner in White Party to draw three to four tiny stars on top of the blended blue eye shadow beneath your eyes.
No statement eye is complete without volumizing mascara, so swipe on a coat of the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara Mystic Black before heading out the door.
If you want to rock a statement eye while still keeping things relatively low-key, we suggest wearing metallic eye shadow, one of this summer’s hottest looks. Pair it with a red lip (more on that next) and you’ll have everyone seeing stars as soon as they glance in your direction!
Help smooth your lids by applying an eye makeup primer (or concealer) to start.
Use a fluffy eye shadow brush to blend the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints Metallics Eye Shadow in Aluminum Foil across your upper and lower lids, connecting at either corner.
To add a patriotic touch, coat your lashes with the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara in Cobalt Blue.
There’s nothing like a classic red lip to make a serious style statement. With the ability to completely transform an entire look, red lipstick should be applied with care. Here’s how:
Start by using a lip scrub to help exfoliate dead skin cells from the surface of your lips. Try the L’Oréal Paris Pure-Sugar Smooth & Glow Grapeseed Scrub, which can be used on the face and lips. To give it a whirl, use wet fingers to massage a small amount of the scrub onto your lips. Rinse off and you’re ready for step number two.
Don’t jump straight to applying your red lip next. Your lips may be super smooth from exfoliating, but they aren’t necessarily ready to be coated with lipstick just yet. Before you get to that step, you’ll want to prep your lips with a lip liner. Use the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lip Liner in Always Red to line around the edges of your lips, then use the same lip pencil to fill in your lips entirely.
Finally, you can put on your lipstick. Try the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Shine Lipstick in Enamel Red for an on-trend glossy lip.
Want a look that’s sure to have all eyes on you? In that case, you’ll want to get crafty with a bit of glitter for this gold, shimmering star eye makeup look.
Since this look is centered around applying gold stars along your temple, you’ll want to have a tacky base that said stars can stick to. You can use a glitter makeup base or dab on a thick layer of the L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Glotion Natural Glow Enhancer where you’d like to place your stars.
Before your base has dried, apply small gold stars over top, curving them around the outer corner of your eye and up over your brow.
While this look is centered around your star accent, you can choose to amp up the 4th of July vibes with a red pout! Use the L’Oréal Paris Rouge Signature, Lasting Matte Liquid Lipstick in I Am Worth It to color your lips. Prefer to balance your glitzy eye makeup with a subtler lip? You can never no wrong with a nude lip color!
Can you incorporate red, white, and blue into your makeup look without creating a super dramatic look? We know a way—relegate the three hues to your lash line.
Start by using a nude eye shadow, like the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Paris Beach, to paint your lids. You’ll want to keep your shadow simple, so your lower lash line can be the star of your eye makeup look.
Use waterproof pencil eyeliners to line your lower lash line. First, take a red shade and line the outer third of your lower lash line. Then, use a white liner to line the middle third of your lower lash line. Lastly, use a blue liner to line the inner third of your lower lash line.
Finish the look with a few coats of a lengthening mascara, like the L’Oréal Paris Unlimited Lash Lifting and Lengthening Washable Mascara.
We touched on this earlier, but you can totally use your mascara to add a festive touch to your makeup look! We prefer red or blue mascara for this look. For the ultimate festive mascara, contour your lashes with both shades!
Go bold or go home! Colorful eyebrows are totally on-trend, and they’re a super fun way to sport a 4th of July makeup look. Here’s How to Experiment with Colorful Eyebrows for everything you need to know about this makeup trend—just be sure to use a red, white, or blue hue!
Can’t get enough 4th of July eye makeup ideas? Neither can we! Here’s another.
Apply an eye primer to your lids to prep for your eye makeup.
First, apply a blue eye shadow to one eye, making sure to blend the color into your crease for a seamless look. Then, coat your other lid with a red eye shadow, blending the color into your crease.
Create your sharpest wing using a white liquid eyeliner.
Finish your red, white, and blue eye makeup look with a few coats of mascara!
Prefer to have your lips be the star of the show? One patriotic pout coming right up!
Start by applying a lip primer to ensure your pout lasts! Don’t have a primer on hand? Use a clear lip liner to line and then fill in the shape of your lips; this will work as a base for the lipstick that's to come.
Use a lip brush to apply a blue liquid lipstick, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints/Lip in Navy Spy, to one-half of your upper and lower lips. Be sure to leave a straight line at the halfway point! The lip brush will help you precisely apply this popping color.
Next, use a clean lip brush to apply a red liquid lipstick, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints/Lip in DIY Red, to the other half of your upper and lower lips.
Finish the look by using a white liquid lipstick or liner and a fine-tip makeup brush to paint white stars on the blue side of your lip and white stripes on the red side of your lip.
Who said you can’t get festive with your face makeup? Here’s how to give yourself star-shaped freckles.
Use a white liquid liner to draw stars along your cheeks and across your nose as if they were freckles. These will serve as a base for blue and red liner, which will come next.
Fill in your white stars with red and blue liner, alternating colors per each star freckle. Keep the outline of your stars white to really make them pop.
Once your freckles are complete, be sure to set your look with a setting spray, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray.
For another 4th of July eye makeup idea, consider rocking two-toned eye makeup look.
Apply a red eye shadow to your lids.
Next, you’ll want to use a navy eye shadow to define your crease and create contrast. Try the L’Oréal Paris Infallible 24 HR Eye Shadow in Midnight Blue.
Finish your two-toned look with a coat of the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Washable Mascara.
You’ve probably heard of glitter tears as a popular festival makeup look, but have you ever thought of putting a patriotic twist on them? Head over to our article, How to Apply Glitter Tears for Your Next Festival, to learn how to apply glitter tears—just be sure to swap out traditional glitter for star-shaped glitter in colors that are appropriate for the 4th!
What would the 4th be without fireworks? And even if you won’t be catching a firework show outside, you can put one on with your eye makeup!
Use concealer to coat your lids and create a seamless nude base for the rest of your eye makeup.
Use red, white, and blue liquid eyeliner to create dots on your lid. How you rotate the colors is up to you, but be sure to start with larger dots toward your lash line and gradually transition them into smaller dots as you go up toward your brow bone.
Add an extra dose of color by lining your lower lash line with blue eye shadow.
As with any eye makeup look, you’ll want to finish with a few coats of mascara.
Color blocking isn’t just a fashion trend! Here’s how to do it for your 4th of July makeup look.
Begin by creating a dramatic wing with a red liquid eyeliner.
Line your lower lash line with a blue pencil eyeliner, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Waterproof, Up to 24HR Pencil Eyeliner in Cobalt Blue. Wing the liner out to be in line with your red wing, making sure to leave a little space in between the two flicks.
Use a white liquid liner to create a third wing in between others, creating a perfectly patriotic color-blocked eyeliner look. Apply some mascara and you’re ready for fireworks!
We have one more 4th of July makeup idea for you! When in doubt, this gradient eye shadow look is easy to do and a total crowd pleaser.
Start by painting your lids in white. This will be the base of your gradient eye shadow look.
Apply a bit of red eye shadow to the inner corner of your lid. Make sure to softly blend your red and white shadows as to not have any harsh lines.
Pop some blue eye shadow onto the outer corner of your lid to complete your red, white, and blue gradient. Once again, make sure to softly blend your blue and white shadows to get rid of any harsh lines.
Wrap things up with some mascara!
