Holiday Hair Forecast: 5 Hairstyles on Trend for the 2018 Holiday Season Holiday Hair Forecast: 5 Hairstyles on Trend for the 2018 Holiday Season Holiday Hair Forecast: 5 Hairstyles on Trend for the 2018 Holiday Season

Now that Halloween has come and gone, the holidays are finally here. That’s right, it’s officially appropriate to crank up the carols! To get you even more in the holiday spirit, we’re sharing five festive hairstyles that are on trend this holiday season. Better yet, were walking you through how to re-create them at home in just a few easy steps. Whether you’re looking for long, short, or medium hairstyles, we’ve got all the holiday inspiration you need. Read on for a ‘90s-inspired updo, a super-glamorous long hairstyle, a sleek ponytail, and more!

If you’ve kept your eye on the runway in recent seasons, you may have noticed that crimped hair—which was super-popular in the ‘90s—is back and dare we say it, better than ever. Now, when you think of crimped hair, you may cringe at the idea of ultra-defined, crunchy zig-zags. Don’t! These days, crimped hair is all about being a bit softer for a modern update. One of your favorite childhood hairstyles without all the hair spray? Yes, please!

What you’ll need:

L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle BLOW DRY IT Thermal Smoother Cream

Hair ties

Flat iron

L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Clean Style Gel

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step #1: Prep (and Protect) Your Hair

After washing your hair with your favorite nourishing shampoo and conditioner combo, towel-dry your hair, detangle it, and evenly disperse a heat protectant cream from your roots to your ends.

Step #2: Braid Your Mane

Instead of using an old-school crimping iron, this look only requires basic braiding skills. Part your hair in a deep side part, braid each side, and tie the braids off with hair ties.

Step #3: Create Crimps

Once your hair is dry, run a flat iron over the braids to help seal in the crimps that are forming in your hair.

Step #4: Bye, Bye Braids

After your braids are no longer hot to the touch, remove the hair ties and unweave your hair to reveal gorgeous, modern crimps.

Step #5: Slick Back One Side

To complete your holiday hairstyle, apply a dime-sized amount of hair gel on the smaller side of your part to smooth it back for a semi-wet look. This slicked-back element contrasts beautifully with the voluminous crimps on the other side of your part.

Editor’s tip: If you find your hair isn’t staying voluminous, section the top-most layer of hair out of the way and tease the hair directly below it. Once it’s teased, smooth the top layer over it and use the tail end of a rat tail comb to gently lift at the roots. Spritz with hairspray and you’ll be ready to head out the door for a night of festivities.

If you love the idea of ‘90s texture but want to lose the crimps and jazz it up a bit for your office holiday party, this braided style could be exactly what you’ve been searching for.

What you’ll need:

L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle AIR DRY IT Wave Swept Spray

Bobby pins or miniature clear elastics

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step #1: Brave the Waves

After showering, spritz your towel-dried hair with wave spray before allowing your hair to air dry. Be sure not to run a brush through your hair, if you do, you’ll disrupt your hair’s natural texture—which just so happens to be very, very in right now.

Step #2: Part Your Hair

Once your hair is dry, use your fingers to create a deep side part. Again, no need for a brush since the whole point is to maintain texture.

Step #3: Create a Braid—Or Two

On the narrower side of your part, tightly weave a French braid or two from your hairline back towards the crown of your head. Once you reach the farthest point on the side of your head, use bobby pins or clear elastics to secure your look. If you’re hoping to achieve an extra voluminous look, opt for hair ties because they’ll allow you to tighten and fluff your hair to your heart’s content. And voila! The perfect party look to pair with your holiday sweater.

Let’s face it, just because it’s the holidays doesn’t mean you have all this extra time to get ready. That being said, you don’t have to give up on having stunning strands. If you’re tight on time but don’t want to skimp on your party style, you're going to love what we think is just about the easiest holiday hairstyle ever.

What you’ll need:

L’Oréal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Dry Shampoo

Boar bristle brush

Lobster clips

Clear elastic

Bobby pins

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step #1: Refresh Limp Locks

Hair looking a little less than fresh? No worries! A spritz of dry shampoo can help refresh the look of your hair and is perfect for sprucing up your style after a day spent whipping up holiday treats in the kitchen.

Step #2: Section and Smooth

Once you’ve used your dry shampoo, section off a portion of hair on each side of your face and clip them out of the way. Use a boar bristle brush to smooth the rest of your hair straight back over your crown.

Step #3: Make a Teardrop Bun

With your main section of hair, loop and swoop your strands into a messy teardrop bun. From there, twist each front section of hair back towards your bun. Before wrapping the ends around your bun, pull apart the twists a bit for a more voluminous, textured look. After pinning the front sections in place, gently tug at your teardrop bun.

Step #4: Elevate your Bun

Use your remaining bobby pins to secure the edges of your bun to your head for an updo that resembles a chignon—a style that looks oh-so-elegant. See? Easy, peasy and ready to party!

As you can tell, we love that deep side parts are topping the charts. Another way to rock the look involves shimmer and shine.

What you’ll need:

L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle BOOST IT High Lift Creation Spray

Round brush

Two-inch curling iron

L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Extreme Style Gel

L’Oréal Paris Colorista 1-Day Spray in Gold

Fine-tooth comb

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step #1: Pump Up the Volume

After you hop out of the shower, towel dry your hair and spritz it with a volumizing styling hairspray. From there, dry your hair with a blow-dryer and a round brush for a smooth, voluminous blowout.

Step #2: Embody Old Hollywood

Once your hair is dry, create a deep part and begin curling your hair with your two-inch curling iron. The wide barrel is what will give your hair that gorgeous Hollywood look. After you finish curling your hair, gently shake your curls out and pull them over to one shoulder.

Step #3: Tame Tresses with Hair Gel

On the smaller side of your part, smooth some of your hair gel from your hairline back around to your crown to help your hair stay in place. While the hair gel is still damp, use a fine-tooth comb to really smooth your hair down.

Step #4: Go for the Gold

To complete your holiday hairstyle, take the cap off your temporary hair color spray and lightly spritz from your roots back towards your crown, overtop of the hair gel. And just like that, you’re gilded and glimmering right, on time for New Year’s Eve!

HOLIDAY HAIRSTYLE #5: Sleek Low Ponytail

As far as low-maintenance hairstyles go, we’re particularly loving the low ponytails gracing red carpets and runways these days. To make your sleek ponytail look really stand out, pair a straight, slicked-back, middle part with gorgeous flowing curls coming out of the ponytail. Not only is it a totally achievable style, but it’s also a chic look for any holiday party you’re attending.

What you’ll need:

Fine-tooth comb

Boar bristle brush

L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Clean Style Gel

Hair ties

Flat iron

One-inch curling iron (optional)

L'Oréal Paris Elnett Precious Oil Satin Hairspray

Get the look by following these simple steps:

Step #1: Part Your Hair

After you dry your clean hair with a blow-dryer, use a fine-tooth comb to create a perfectly centered part.

Step #2: Pony Up

Next, use a boar bristle brush and a bit of hair gel to slick back both sides, then pull your hair into a low ponytail that sits at the nape of your neck. Secure it tightly with your hair tie, then spritz all over with hairspray to set the look.

Step #3: Add Curls

Lastly, gently curl small sections of your ponytail until all of your hair is bouncing with small curls. Set again with hairspray and you're done!
