Holiday Hair Forecast: 4 Hairstyles on Trend for the 2017 Holiday Season Holiday Hair Forecast: 4 Hairstyles on Trend for the 2017 Holiday Season Holiday Hair Forecast: 4 Hairstyles on Trend for the 2017 Holiday Season

Now that Halloween has come and gone, the holidays are here. Yep, it’s officially appropriate to crank up the carols. To get you even more into the holiday spirit, we’re sharing four festive holiday hairstyles that are on trend this holiday season. We’ve got a ‘90s-inspired updo, super-glamorous wavy long hairstyle, and more to share with you below.

Holiday Hairstyle #1: Crimped ‘90s Flip

If you’ve kept your eye on the runway, you may have noticed that crimped hair—which was super-popular in the ‘90s—is back and dare we say it, better than ever. Now, when you think of crimped hair, you may cringe at the idea of ultra-defined, crunchy zig-zags. Don’t! These days, crimped hair is all about being a bit softer for a modern update. One of your favorite childhood hairstyles without all the hair spray? Yes, please!

What you’ll need:

L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle BLOW DRY IT Thermal Smoother Cream

Hair ties

Flat iron

L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Clean Style Gel

Get the look by following these simple steps:

After washing your hair with your favorite nourishing shampoo and conditioner combo, towel-dry your hair, detangle it, and evenly disperse heat protectant from your roots down to your ends. From there, part your hair in a deep side part, braid each side, and tie them off with hair ties. Once your hair is dry, run a flat iron down them to help seal in the soft crimped look. After your braids are no longer hot to the touch, remove the hair ties and unweave them to reveal gorgeous, modern crimps. To complete your holiday hairstyle, apply a dime-sized amount of hair gel on the smaller side of your part to smooth it back for a semi-wet look. This slicked-back contrast pairs beautifully with the voluminous flip on the larger side of your part.

Editor’s tip: If you find your flip isn’t staying voluminous, section the top-most layer of hair out of the way and tease the hair directly below it. Once it’s teased, smooth the top layer over it and use the tail end of a rat tail comb to gently lift from the roots. Spritz with hair spray, and you’ll be ready to head out the door for a night of festivities.

Holiday Hairstyle #2: Textured Side Braid Flip

If you love the idea of a ‘90s flip but want to lose the crimps and jazz it up a bit for your office holiday party, this braided version could be exactly the hairstyle you’ve searching for.

What you’ll need:

L’Oréal Paris Advance Hairstyle AIR DRY IT Wave Swept Spray

Bobby pins or miniature clear hair ties

Get the look by following these simple steps:

After showering, spritz your towel-dried hair with some wave spray before allowing your hair to air dry. Be sure not to run a brush through your hair again in order to maintain your hair’s natural texture—which just so happens to be very, very in right now. Once your hair is dry, use your fingers to create a deep side part. Again, no need for a brush since the whole point is to maintain texture. On the narrower side of your part, tightly weave a French braid or two from your hairline back towards the crown of your head. Once you reach the farthest point on the side of your head, use bobby pins or clear miniature hair ties to secure your look. If you’re hoping to achieve the look of extra volume, opt for hair ties because they’ll allow you to tighten and fluff your hair for another ‘90s-ish vibe. Voila! The perfect party look to pair with your vintage holiday sweater.

Holiday Hairstyle #3: Lazy Girl Updo

Let’s face it, just because it’s the holidays doesn’t mean you have all this extra time to get ready. That being said, if you’re tight on time but don’t want to skimp on your party style, keep reading to learn how to nail what we think is just about the easiest holiday hairstyle ever.

What you’ll need:

L’Oréal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Dry Shampoo

Lobster clips

Hair tie

Bobby pins

Get the look by following these simple steps:

No time to shower? No worries! Second-day hair is super-trendy, and a spritz of dry shampoo can help refresh the look of your hair. Once you’re done with that, section off a portion of hair on each side of your face and clip them out of the way. Use a boar bristle brush to smooth the rest of your hair straight back over your crown. Loop and swoop this section into a messy teardrop bun. From there, twist each front section of hair back towards your bun. Before wrapping the ends around your bun, piece apart the twists a bit for a more voluminous, textured finish. After pinning the front sections in place, gently tug at your teardrop bun. Use your remaining bobby pins to secure the edges of your bun to your head for more of a chignon. See? Easy peasy and ready to party!

Holiday Hairstyle #4: Shimmering Side-Swept Hollywood Waves

As you can tell, we love that deep side parts are topping the charts. Another way to rock the look involves shimmer and shine.

What you’ll need:

L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle BOOST IT High Lift Creation Spray

2-inch curling iron

L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Extreme Style Gel

L’Oréal Paris Colorista 1-Day Spray in Gold

Boar bristle brush

Fine tooth comb

Get the look by following these simple steps:

After you hop out of the shower, towel dry your hair and spritz it with a volumizing styling hair spray. From there, dry your hair with a blow-dryer and a boar bristle brush to create a smooth, voluminous blowout. Once your hair is dry, create a deep part and begin curling your hair with your 2-inch barrel curling iron. The wide barrel is what will give your hair that gorgeous Hollywood look. After you finish curling your hair, gently shake your curls out and pull them all around to one shoulder. On the smaller side of your part, smooth some of your hair gel from your hairline back around to your crown to help your hair stay in place. While the hair gel is still damp, use a fine tooth comb to really smooth your hair down for a tight look. To complete your holiday hairstyle, take the cap off of your temporary hair color spray and streak from your roots back towards your crown overtop of the hair gel. And just like that you’re gilded and glimmering just in time for New Year’s Eve!

With these four hairstyles, you can play around with your hair and add a seriously festive element. But have you thought about what you’re going to do for your makeup yet? If not, check out our article, A Classic Holiday Makeup Look for Every Occasion, for a little inspo. Happy Holidays!
