The smell is absolutely awful. At first I thought I’d accidentally grabbed my husband’s body wash because it smells like a man’s scent. Second, it makes my scalp itch in the worst way possible. Lastly, the build up it leaves is insane. I have NEVER had these issues. This is my third try with this new formula thinking maybe they needed time to get it right but I cannot keep using this bottle and will be throwing it out. I am so disappointed as I loved this shampoo/conditioner.

The new scent is atrocious, absolutely disgusting in comparison to what it used to be, and my hair feels worse under using this newer shampoo and conditioner. And trust me, those around you can immediately tell. You’ll have people asking “why did you change shampoos?” even though it should be the same shampoo as always! It’s like using an inferior hair product now! Treat yourself, and find a better product under a different brand. To put it bluntly, I recommend avoiding L’Oréal until they change it back. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll purchase from them ever again, as it will be a gamble of whether they listened to feedback and the scent is changed back or not. They’ll respond to our reviews here with a copy and paste message, but nothing will change as long as people buy their products.

Left my hair healthy, nourished and looking and feeling great. I always buy tons at a time and just had to re-stock for the first time this year and I honestly thought I accidentally bought the wrong one the second I put some in my hand. Everything is different. The smell, how it feels in my hair while washing, how it washes out and most importantly - how my hair came out after blow drying. My hair felt dry, damaged and frizzy after using it. And the smell was SO strong - even while I was trying to sleep, every time I woke up in the middle of the night it was all I smelled. I don’t know why they’d ruin such an amazing product. Please bring back the old formula! Based on all the forums I found and reviews I’ve read, everyone seems to be in agreement you guys need to bring the old one back!!

I have three different textures in my hair.and after all of the products that hair taken out my hair,or dried it out,I finally tried this system. I am so thrilled to find that my breaking days have ended.the shampoo paired with the conditioner was just want my hair needed.mosisturized,soft to touch again,and less split ends.i found the rinse out and leaving at walmart,and omgoodness I cried after my results after my trim. I just want to say thank you thank you thank you for caring about us little people.the smell is so phenomenal and crisp,no wonder I get people asking what do I have on.its the system.many couldn't believe it.but I will not switch up my products anymore.i have waited 17 years for the best inexpensive product to use.especially paired with castor oil,my hair has grown tremendously better with more vibrance.we are worth it because you all made it so!!!

It smoothed and strengthened my hair while giving it incredible shine. However, the most recent formulation is absolutely atrocious. It’s drying and makes my hair break and has an overpowering perfume scent. I don’t write online reviews for anything but am so disappointed and sincerely urging/*begging* L’Oréal to bring back the old formula! I am now looking into new shampoos and conditioners with similar formulations to the old version, while simultaneously trying to buy any old formulation bottles that I can find. Sigh.

I recently bought it and to my surprise the smell was so bad and unpleasant that I went to the store to complain because I thought it was spoiled. I went to another store to buy the same product and the unpleasant smell was the same. I investigated and checked several people complained about the same thing. It made my hair soft and manageable, the scent was perfect. This shampoo and conditioner was the only one I found that really helped detangle/de-frizz my hair. It was very plush and luxurious while applying. Then they changed the formula without warning. I was running low so I purchased two new pump bottles which was both a disappointing mistake and a waste of money (something that has been tight as of late).The scent is overpowering now; quite artificial. The shampoo makes my hair stringy and the conditioner leaves my hair CRISPY!! Somehow the conditioner manages to be greasy and thin while drying my hair out even more. So upset. I thought I had finally found my golden product.

At first, I thought I had received a fake product when Damage Reversing showed up in the black bottle. Completely different fragrance, feel and results. Tried multiple stores, same thing. Called L'Oreal and 1st person assured me that it wasn't discontinued, so I wasted almost 2 hours and a gallon of gas driving around. Called again, and they confirmed that it is indeed replaced with Damage Reversing ceramide version. PLEASE UPDATE YOUR OFFICIAL WEBSITE!! Can't believe I spent my day off being furious about shampoo, wasting time and money. Beyond disappointed it is discontinued. Will not be using the replacement as it's completely different and ineffective. Just returned 4 bottles to Amazon.

Now the scent is over powering. Smells like cologne. I can barely stand it shampooing my hair. I have used my new bottle 3 times. I have near waist length THIIICK frizzy hair and am always looking for something to help tame it. Like I mentioned I’ve only used it a single time and my hair is as if I blow dried it and added loads of products. It’s so soft and calmed my frizz MAJORLY. When I tell you I’ve never had a shampoo this good, I SWEAR!!! I’ve tried so many and nothing compare! I’m thrilled and overjoyed at this product! I cannot wait to get the matching conditioner next time I’m at the store!!!

I have used before and had forgotten just how well Elvive shampoo and conditioner worked for my hair. After just one use, my hair was much healthier. I've received compliments about my hair and how it looks better. I'm 60 and stopped dying my hair 2 years ago. L'Oreal Elvive shampooo and conditioner help to calm the frizziness and makes my hair shine. Highly recommend.

I’m hooked on it and if I had to I’d buy it online if that’s the only way I could get it! I don’t buy anything else to wash my hair and condition it! Thank you

I have used this shampoo in the past but forgive me I tried another brand that a friend swore by but not on my hair. I have returned to L'Oreal and will not stray again. Usually I switch between Dream Lengths and Total Repair. I think my hair is happy that I switched back.

My hair is Repaired and Silky but there is no greasy feel or heaviness. I can finally get a comb through my hair in the shower again. Amazing results. This is a high quality product at a great price. I will stock up on this one. Glad to see there is only one gentler sulfate too. Love it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Linda from It caused hair loss. I stopped using it and hair got thinker, tried it again and hair started to fall out. I even had bald spot at the hairline. I have tried several Loreal shampoos and same results. I used it years ago and not problem and loved it.

I am not one to have oily hair and these product leaves a thick residue no matter how long I rinse it out and I look like I have oily unwashed hair overnight when so usually don’t wash my hair but every 48-72 hrs with no issues typically. I do not recommend this product if your goal is soft, silky, residue free hair.

Now that it just has one, I was excited to try it again, but I was disappointed in the outcome. The smell is fantastic, better than almost any other shampoo out there, but it made my hair feel flat and thin and unclean. It did a wonderful job detangling, but that's about it. I wanted it to work.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Mel C from Used to be my go to, but no more I have been using the Elvive Total Repair shampoo and conditioner for several years, probably more than 8 years...I LOVED it, but no more. This new formula is AWFUL, and no where near as effective as the old. Since you changed to formula without any warning on the labels or anything, this new conditioner does not even feel like it's a conditioner at all! My hair is sticky and tangled, and takes FOREVER to dry, and it's poofy and frizzy and heavy feeling. I have to use five times as much just to get my hair untangled. It's down right terrible, and this used to be my ultimate go to. I even introduced friends to it and they loved it too. I used to love it because it was so slick and would get all the tangles out of my hair, and it smelled and just felt more amazing than any other conditioner I had ever used. I was a solid customer for nearly a decade and now it's back to the drawing board to find another conditioner that will work. Why would you change the formula and not even make any mention of that on the bottle? I went online to investigate and found sites full of reviews from women just like mine, "used to love, now I hate it, why did they change it?" "Please change it back" Why would you change something that was so fantastic and make it terrible? I'm curious if it was something to do with scarcity of ingredients.... Please change this back to the old formula, or point all of us that once used this and loved it to the next best thing in the lineup!!! I tried the retiring conditioner, that one doesn't give my hair that nice slippery feeling to get all the tangles out either.

The rest was stiff and brittle. I will not buy this again. I heard it was because the formula was changed recently (end 2021). Do NOT change the Extraordinary Oil shampoo. I'm going back to that one.

For one I love the way they smell but they used to never do anything but make my hair feel dry before. And now my hair feels virgin, it’s so soft, shiny and smooth! And the shampoo is much gentler than the previous formula! People are saying that this new formula sucks but it works better on my hair than the old one!
