How to Do Soap Brows for the Perfect Fluffy Eyebrow Look

November 04, 2019

It’s no secret that eyebrows have surged in popularity over recent years, paving the way for eyebrow trend after eyebrow trend to end up in our social media feeds. By now, you’ve probably seen the term “soap brows” circulating on Instagram and Pinterest. The latest makeup trend, soap brows are a must-try for anyone who’s been looking to switch up their eyebrow grooming method with minimal commitment. Want to learn more? Get the 4-1-1 on soap eyebrows below!

WHAT ARE SOAP EYEBROWS?

While the term “soap eyebrows” is used to describe a particular eyebrow look, the name is actually all about the unique grooming technique involved. Popularly used by makeup artists and influencers alike, the process—as you may have been able to guess—involves using a bar of soap to shape and set your brows. Yes, you read that right—a simple bar of soap can replace your brow gels and mascaras!

What look do you get when you follow the soap brow technique? The end result is similar to brushed up eyebrows, leaving you with full, fluffy brows that look immaculately groomed.

Ideally, this technique is best for those with medium to thick eyebrows who don’t need to fill in sparse areas. That being said, those with thin or sparse brows can still get the look with the help of an eyebrow pomade or pencil. Soap brows are not only loved for the look they create, but also for their staying power and the low cost required to achieve the look. And the best part is, there’s no need to pick up a new makeup product to try this trend out for yourself since you likely have a bar of soap in your bathroom cabinet just waiting to be put to use.

2 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE TRYING SOAP BROWS

Before you jump into trying soap brows for yourself, there are a few things you should take note of.

1. The type of soap you use matters. While we may have joked about using the soap sitting in your bathroom cabinet, it’s important to use a soap that’s safe to use on your face to avoid irritation. It’s a good idea to look for a soap formulated with glycerin, which won’t irritate. Also, make sure it’s transparent in color!

2. Be careful when you apply it. When applying your soap, try to focus on getting the product on your brows alone. If you get some on your foundation, it can mix with the formula and cause it to get patchy or fade throughout the day.

HOW TO DO SOAP BROWS

Let’s get soapy—it’s easy!  Here’s how to get soap brows.

STEP #1: FILL IN YOUR BROWS

This step is optional, depending on the eyebrows you’re starting with. If you have thin or sparse eyebrows, this one’s for you! Reach for an eyebrow pencil, like the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Definer Waterproof Eyebrow Mechanical Pencil, and create light, feathered strokes throughout any areas that need filling in. When you’re satisfied with the fullness of your brows, move onto the next step.

STEP #2: GRAB YOUR SPOOLIE

First, grab a spoolie and dampen it with a bit of water. To really amp up the hold of your soap brows, you can also dampen your spoolie with a makeup setting spray. Spritz the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray and Set Make-Up Oil-Free Setting Spray onto your brush and move on to the next step before it dries.

STEP #3: GET SOAPY

Ready to reach for your soap? Gently run the dampened brush of your spoolie over the face soap, going back and forth a few times to gather a bit of product. Keep in mind that less is more to start with, and you’re better off layering on more soap as you go.

STEP #4: FLUFF IT UP

It’s time to create the appearance of fluffy, full eyebrows. Use your spoolie to brush up your eyebrows—then backcomb them back down again. Repeat this process to fluff and style your brows until you’re satisfied with their appearance. That’s it!
