PLZ BRING BACK THE OLD FORMULA. THIS SMELLS TOXIC
I have used this mascara for over 20 years now. I have tried every mascara on the market and this was my holy Grail. I am so so so disappointed that they have changed the formula. I can no longer use this brand or mascara because this new formula smells like gasoline, burns my eyes, it clumps, flakes all over my face, and inside my eyes, which irritates it, when I try to wash it off, it doesn’t come off and it flakes even more. I hate the waterproof formula and this is worse than that now my eyes become red, swollen and watery. They have ruined a perfectly good mascara. Have you never heard of the saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” I cannot believe you guys would change up a cult favorite on us like this. PLEASE go back to the old formula. PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS. WE ARE ALL REVIEWING THE SAME THING AND SAYING THE SAME THING. This complaint is also all over Reddit forums and make up forums.

Pleased, then disappointed
I used to love Loreal Voluminous mascara but stopped using it over 8 years ago because of the parabens in it, which are known to disrupt the endocrine system. I was very pleased recently to discover that the formula had been updated to remove the parabens and eagerly purchased a tube. However, unfortunately, in just the first week, I counted 5 eyelashes that fell out while trying to remove the mascara. It is too difficult to remove. I am 53 and my lashes are getting more sparse in general, so I cannot afford to lose eye lashes at that rate. I need to stop using this mascara once again. Too bad.

The new formula is TRASH!
OMG! It has been my favorite mascara for over 20 years! And now? THEY CHANGED THE FORMULA! WHY? I LOVED this product so much! This is really disappointing that all the Loreal products that I like for decades, they suddenly change their formula and turn them into a trashy product! It’s not the original mascara anymore! Why would they change an amazing product? I lost all my lashes since using this new formula! It’s sticky and impossible to remove even with makeup remover! It pulls out all your lashes! DON’T BUY! DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS NEW FORMULA!

Poor results and almost impossible to remove.
This Voluminous Original in Black 305 is very hard to get off the eyelashes. I just opened a brand new tube, and the performance is abysmal: no volume whatsoever. Ideally, I’d like to send it back to L’Oreal, because they should be the ones responsible for recycling this hot mess. Never again.

Horrible from the beginning to the end of the day. Gloopy, gloppy when applying and flaking, smudging when the day is done. Applicator is too bendy and brush bristles are too short. Don't waste your money. Totally disappointed in this product.

This is the only mascara I wear!!!
I get lots of compliments on it!
I've worn blue mascara for years but this one really sets my blue eyes off and enhances them.

Very pleased
I am very, very happy with this. My lashes look perfect. Fluffy, defined, and fanned out. I don't notice quite as much irritation from this mascara as I do some others. However, when I try to remove this, I sometimes lose lashes, and that is concerning. I wish there were a way to mitigate this.
This mascara is also easy to apply, and that's a very important factor when I choose a mascara.

Flakes off and impossible to remove
Bring back the old formula. I have been a loyal customer for almost 30 years. The mascara is now impossible to get off my eyelashes. I actually thought that I accidentally bought waterproof mascara. Nope! I have tried several different eye makeup removal methods and plain soap and water. Nothing works. The mascara also flakes everywhere. It irritates my eyes and forget being able to wear contacts with it. I am so sad but I will have to change to a different brand.

Bring back the old formula!!!
I’ve been using this mascara since I started wearing mascara 15 years ago. I just bought a new tube and feel completely betrayed as they have changed the formula that I have come to rely on. Someone please let me know when they bring back the old formula, and in the mean time I’ll be looking for a new mascara :(

Great color, weird scent.
Love the color!! Not quite as voluminous as I'd hoped unless I apply 2 coats. But the smell! Is there perfume in it?? That's all I can smell when I wear it, and I'm not usually sensitive to smells except tobacco & lavender.

I’ve used this mascara since 1995. My most recent purchase Is very notably not the same. It’s awful. It hardly lengthens and it too wet and makes my lashes stick together. This is the opposite of how it used to work. This new formula sucks.

Bring back the old formula!
I’ve used this product for decades, but have now switched to another brand. I’m not sure what happened to this formula, but it now flakes and is difficult to remove. I used to recommend it to others, and I’ve had many compliments on the length and fullness of my lashes. I’m sad that L’Oreal decided to change the formula, as I’m no longer a fan of this product.

HORRIBLE MASCARA now.
After years of using the original Voluminous mascara and loving not only how great it looked, but thee compliments I received, I'm extremely disappointed in the new formulation. It is total junk and I'll be spending my money elsewhere and happily paying much more for GOOD washable mascara. There is nothing washable about this paste in a tube! You have foolishly alienated faithful followers and it will eventually catch up to you in profits.
The only positive reviews I'm see for this were all given incentives. GO back to the REAL original formula.

Sorry I bought this
I've been using this mascara for years, and didn't realize they reformulated it. It flakes even when I just put it on, and the flakes get in my eyes - I consider this a health hazard. Plus, something in it makes my eyes burn. I bought this in a two-pack, and it will just go to waste. Wish they still made the old version - it was great.

Have you changed the formula back yet? As you can see by all of the negative reviews, it was a detrimental mistake to change formula when you have had loyal customers for 20+ years. Now we are all spending money on other brands trying to find our new holy grail mascara when I could have just continued to purchase my monthly tubes of voluminous!! LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS, CHANGE IT BACK!!! I won't be purchasing ANYTHING from Loreal until you fix this horrible mistake!!!

The worst
I have been using this product for 20+ years. Now it’s absolutely terrible. Not much in the tube and feels dried out. It also flakes off everywhere now. It used to glide on and lashes stayed in place. Now it flakes off in my eyes and lashes are flimsy so I’ve switched to a different brand. Voluminous blackest black used to be the best. I’m so disappointed you changed the formula.

Bring back old formula
You claim it's the same original formula, however, the last two batches that I've gotten are a 1000% different and have fibers. It is a shame because your formula was incredible for so many years, did not need the fibers, I don't see a positive difference with the fibers just annoyance on removal and sometimes I just don't want the fibers on my lashes. So no benefit of adding them. please go back to the old formula or revise your marketing accordingly, as it's not the same original formula

Terrible

Fantastic mascara!
Love love love this mascara! It stays put all day/night long, but isn’t difficult to remove. My eyes are blue/green and this mascara just makes my eyes POP…. Really extends my lashes too. I’ve got the blue. Gonna get it in green and brown.

Awful!
New formula is horrible. Used for many years because I want to be able to wash it off easily without losing eyelashes. Hate the clumping also. I’ve returned it and will not use it again. Should have kept the 5x we all loved. Why fix what isn’t broken?

New formulation is not good!
I have used this for over 10 years and this product was amazing. Now, there clearly is a new formulation: the tube displays a gold band around it, the mascara itself is "stickier" and can much easily remove your eye lashes when taking this off. The old formulation (non waterproof) easily came off in water, which was helpful for removal. Now, the new non-waterproof formulation is very stick and hard to remove. Additionally, my eye lids, skin around my eyes, face, have become red, itchy, & inflamed due to the new formulation.

What happenened to the origional 5X?
Can't stand the new formula! Bring back the origional 5X mascara. This clumps and isn't anywhere near as good as the original. My lashes are still longer but not as full. It's harder to remove form my lashes as well. I'm on the hunt for a new mascara and not L'oreal voluminous 15X. I've used 5X mascara for years and always received compliments on my lashes. So sad you changed it.

Terrible new formula
New formula is terrible -- leaves lashes hard, brittle. Am now using Bare Minerals Lashtopia. Just like (maybe even better) than Original LOreal Voluminous. It's a shame L'Oreal messed with their Original winning formula. If it "ain't broke, don't fix it." Try Bare Minerals Lashtopia for replacement of our former favorite mascara.

No matter what I do, it tears out my lashes.
I cannot believe that L'Oreal changed this formula without changing the packaging or the name...seems disingenuous at best. The new formula is a tubing mascara (read: tears out your lashes, flakes, cannot build on itself...not anything long-time fans of this mascara want). The questions are (1) will they bring back the true ORIGINAL Voluminous (or continue to waste people's time, money, lashes) and (2) if not, why would you do this to a loyal client base?

Not the same!
This has been my go to mascara for years! They have recently changed something. Its now clumpy and doesnt dry. Before i was able to curl my lashes hours later and had no issues, i tey now and the curler gets stuck to my lashes it even pulledsome out becausei had to pull gaed in order to take it apart. Will no longer be purchasing this mascara and Im sad because I would get so many compliments about my eyelashes.

Poor product
I’ve been a loyal user of your Voluminous Mascara for many years, particularly in the shade Blackest Black. However, I’ve noticed a change in the formula recently. Over the past three weeks, I’ve purchased the mascara three times, thinking that the formula in my previous bottles may have dried out. However, I am still experiencing the same issues: the mascara has become clumpy and is much more difficult to wash off. I’ve never encountered these problems with this product before and it’s been a staple in my routine for decades. I was always asked what mascara do you use or are your lashes real. Not anymore. Could you let me know if there has been any recent change to the formula? If so, bring back the original formula.

Disappointed in quality of new formula
I’ve been wearing this mascara for 20+ years and it was always my favorite and my go-to. Recently it feels like the formula has changed. It smudges, flakes, and now it’s very difficult to wash off. This is The Worst Mascara Now
For the love of God, PLEASE bring back the old formula. This is absolutely now the WORST mascara. It is a clumpy Mess. I have bought this mascara for over a decade, and it WAS the best. This new 15x formula is horrible. Please bring back the 5x or 7x Original voluminous mascara. When I first learned those were discontinued I went everywhere and bought up all the old formuIa mascara I could find. Alas, I have used them up no si I have tried a few other L'Oreal mascaras and none of them comes close to what I used for many, many years. I agree with the other reviewers that this is not the same mascara, only "improved." I am tired of throwing away money on trying to find a mascara that works for me.

Disappointed in new formula
I’ve been getting this mascara for years and they changed the formula. The new one is essentially waterproof, not washable. Super disappointed. Feel a little tricked. They already have a waterproof mascara, why make the washable one also waterproof? When I try and wash this stuff off it’s nearly impossible. Always have makeup leftover on my eyes, even when I’ve done a couple of washes.

Dry and clumpy
I have used the L’Oréal washable mascara for, at least, 20
years. I got asked what brand mascara I used. I have long lashes and the original worked well. However, the formula has changed. WHY?? I have bought 2…thinking the first one was a fluke. No, it wasn’t! It is very thick and comes out of the tube very clumpy! It is nothing like the original formula! It doesn’t come off easily with makeup remover…I actually thought I had bought the waterproof, but no! My eyelashes actually feel not soft, but stiff! I’m going to have to find a new mascara, I won’t continue to use this. I’m loyal to a brand, but not L’Oréal anymore!!

Very disappointed in the new mascara
I have used the L’Oréal original wash off mascara for, at least, 20 years. I bought the new one, and it is NOT the same as the original. It comes out of the tube in big clumps and seems dry. It does not go on like the original. It doesn’t come off at night with makeup remover as the original did. There is still mascara there and my lashes feel stiff even after removing it, or trying to! I have long lashes and have always loved L’Oréal, I’ve bought 2 tubes of the new formula it thinking the first was just a fluke, but no. I do NOT like it at all.

As many previous reviewers have stated:
1. I have used this mascara for over 15 years. I’m not sure if the formula changed when the packaging changed, however, I will be throwing away the Package of three that I purchased, and trying to find a “Washable“; Non-flaking; Non-clumping mascara. The mascara does not come off with water, and even with eye makeup remover it is difficult to remove. The new mascara clumps and breaks off, I have actually lost some eyelash length. Why the formula needed to be altered, is beyond me. Unfortunately, after 15+ years, I will be researching and purchasing a new brand of mascara.

It wasn’t broke before.

Used to be good
I have used the Carbon Black mascara for YEARS - I bought a new one a few weeks ago and could not figure out if I bought the waterproof or what the deal was - it was clumpy and flaked off (but didn't wash off with soap and water). My eyes got extremely irritated and swollen, so I think I'm allergic to whatever changed :( ugh

Bring back the true original Voluminous mascara
Please bring back the original Voluminous mascara. This is not easily washable. The mascara with the gold band says “original”, but it is far from the original. The true original does not have the gold band, and I’m unable to find it in stores.

Quality of mascara - POOR
After many years of using your product, Voluminous Mascara, i find that it now flakes, does not give me the volume it use to. Also to remove, I use makeup wipes. The mascara flakes, where I need to wash my eyes twice after using the wipes, to remove all the flakes/mascara. I am going to change brands.
When I called, a sweet soft voiced person with a thick accent tried to help me. Very difficult to understand her. Not sure what she wanted me to do, return product???don't know. Didn't quite understand her with her sweet soft voice and accent.

I have used the L'Oreal voluminous original mascara for decades. My favorite of all time.
The formula has changed, and I absolutely hate it. I purchased it 2 times, thinking I must have bought the waterproof formula, but I did not. It's nothing like the original. It doesn't provide the same look, it's irritating, and horrible to remove, and breaks off my lashes. Please bring back the original.

Former holy grail - new formula is horrendous!!!
I have been using this mascara for over 20 years. It USED to be the best mascara out there - way better than high end brands. The new formula, however, is absolutely AWFUL!! Doesn’t give much volume, clumps together, doesn’t layer, irritates my eyes, and is impossible to wash off. I’m so beyond disappointed, I used to recommend this mascara to everyone, as I would get stopped regularly by people asking what mascara I used. I will never ever purchase this again, unless they change it back to the amazing formula I had used for 20+ years. Shame on whoever decided to reformulate a former holy grail product into crap.

I presume the formula was changed because someone tried to save a few measley pennies off the cost to manufacture so they could line some big wig's pocket with this great cost savings initiative and absolutely destroy a product for consumers who enjoyed purchasing a good quality mascara for under $10. My most beloved mascara since I was in high school is now a cheap garbage product that makes your eyes bloodshot and starts flaking off within an hour of application. It's also very clear from these reviews Loreal knows the new formula is garbage and their response to it is just to comment back to everyone with meaningless, empty "call our customer service" lines. Embarrassing all around. I'm done, ordered a new brand this morning.

I have been using this mascara for years. I tried all mascaras and have sworn by this one. I have introduced this mascara to so many people. Lately I have noticed that the mascara is making my eyelash fall. I am unable to remove it and it flakes into my eyes. I don't understand why you would change the formula. Beautiful color, but my eyes do not like it!
I was so excited to try this mascara after seeing TikTok videos of others using it. I wore it once and my eyes became bloodshot and weepy and my left eye almost swelled shut. I decided to test it one more time, thinking the first reaction may have been a fluke. Nope! I wore it again today and I got the same reaction. So, in the trash it goes and now I'm on my way to take some Benadryl. Super bummed :(

The green does not look anything like on the pictures the color looked almost black with a hint of color and the color on the box looked beautiful what a disappointment

Why was the formula changed? So disappointed.
I thought I bought the wrong Voluminous mascara, which I have used for years, but after reading other reviews, I realize your formula was changed. I have pulled out eyelashes to get this off using water and soap like it says but it does not come off. I am switching to another brand until you fix this. Why did you change it? And don't write your dumb response "so sorry to hear this..."

TOO CLUMPY AND CAKEY
It's clumpy and doesn't go very long. I feel like it's a different product now with the gold band across it and I don't like it now. I can't find any more of the original now please bring back the original!
I've been using Volumious Black Brown exclusively for over 30 years and this new one is just AWFUL.

Bring back the old formula
I have used this mascara for 20 years. This new formula is horrible. I hate the way it looks and feels on my lashes. PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD FORMULA!!!

New formula is terrible!!
I honestly thought I was the only one experiencing this, but after reading the reviews, it’s clear that we all hate the new formula. I used to LOVE this mascara. So disappointing.
