So I finally got to try this eyeliner. I had a sty that lasted a couple weeks, so I had to wait to use it and the anticipation was killing me. I was let down. The white wasn't very vibrant in my opinion. But I did like using it as a base for my bright eyeshadows. It helped the colors pop. Other than being a base for my shadows, I doubt I'd use it as a stand alone product.

Quite disappointing

I'm very disappointed in this product, especially since I've trusted L'oreal for a long time . It's so soft it breaks if you have more that 1/8 inch extended. If you use the sharpener, it breaks and doesn't sharpen. I can get a point by shaping with my fingers IF I'm very careful and don't extend it much. I do like the way it looks when I can get the pencil adjusted, so it gets a couple of stars. Too expensive to be so difficult to use.

Eyeliner not like it used to be

I have been using infallible black noir eyeliner for years and years. It was the one eyeliner that lasted all day and the one eyeliner pencil that lasted me at least 1-2 months of use. I recently purchased new eyeliner pencils and have been very disappointed. I have purchased almost 8 new ones for them to either stop twisting where it can no longer be used, or for the product to have no eyeliner left in the pencil just after a few uses. These purchases have been made through amazon and walmart. I am very disappointed as i have to continue to purchase new eyeliners weekly.

Not what it used to be

Did the formula change? I’ve been wearing this eyeliner for over 10 years and it was wonderful. The last two I bought have smudged and not lasted more than 2-3 hours. I used to LOVE this liner, now I need to try others because I’m looking like a raccoon more often than not.

An apology: I left a negative review of the Infallible eyeliner a while ago which I need to retract. I had a couple of pencils in which the material was hard and failed to adhere smoothly, but it now seems likely that it was the fault of the retailer, and not the product, as the newest pencil I'm using works beautifully as advertised. i will definitely keep using Infallible.

The goodness doesn't last!

"Infallible" used to be a wonderful liner which was dependable for the life of the product. However, the formula must have been changed, because the last four Matte-Magic eyeliners I've purchased have worked for me perfectly for just the first few applications, smoothly defining a line exactly where I want it, but after about a week, the tip became hard and would not leave even a trace of color!

Smudges too easily

I was really excited to try this eye liner as I love gel based liners. The first issue is that the color goes on extremely thick in my opinion. So no big deal, I can thin it by using a q-tip. The real issue is how easily it smudges. After about two hours (sometimes not even), I get almost a double line or what looks like raccoon eyes. I’ve tried using it several different times and unfortunately this happens every single time. I’m tossing this as I’m tired of having to correct my eyeliner every hour.

I am 54 years old and this is the best eyeliner pencil ever. It glides on; you don't have to go back and forth over the same spot and it stays put during a spin class. I've been using it for a couple of years. I absolutely love it! Not the cheapest eyeliner pencil you can buy and every time I go cheaper I regret it so no more.

Infallible longwear eye pencil horrible

The line itself is a little too much on the soft side and wears off too easily but not really my issue with this pencil. I’ve my new point has worn down i could not resharpen the pencil. Whatever material the outer part is made from simply fires not sharpen and i used more than one sharpener.

We like our: Infallible Eye Makeup Pencil Sharpener. We are glad you love these amazing shades but we're sorry you are having a hard time sharpening them.
This new generation of gel liners provides great color payoff but needs a gentle touch to sharpen successfully. For best results, insert the pencil into a good cosmetic pencil sharpener no more than 1/4 of an inch. If you push the pencil too far into the sharpener, the blade will grab too much and become difficult to sharpen.
The goal is to shave off the resin in a thin curl to reveal more liner. The pencil should be sharpened frequently so that 3 or 4 gentle turns are sufficient to achieve the desired result.

I have used this for years and loved it. I would have gave it 5 stars. However, the last one I bought only lasted a dozen applications or so. It always lasted me for months before! It feels like I was ripped off. If I could take it back now, I would.

After using a certain L'Oréal Infallible Eye Shadow to line my eyes with for several years, I decided it was time to go old school and revert back to using an eyeliner pencil. After perusing the numerous eyeliner pencils available for purchase, I decided on L’Oréal’s Infallible Never Fail Eyeliner. What separates this eyeliner from the others is the pencil’s design. The eyeliner pencil is designed in the form of a mechanical pencil. A Mechanical pencil is used to provide lines of constant width without sharpening in technical drawing and in writing. This eyeliner pencil has a built in sharpener which allows you to draw a precise line above your eyelid or under your lower lash line. The mechanical pencil has a smudge tip to which allows you to blend the eyeliner for a more natural look. The Only Eyeliner I Trust

I only trust this eyeliner. I can't wear anything else. It just doesn't measure up. No matter what I try on, this is the only eyeliner I really trust. It doesn't smear, it's long lasting, it's waterproof, it doesn't crack or dry out harshly on the plastic tube nor on my eyes, it's amazing.

Seriously horrible

Alright so I've been meaning to write this review for like a year but felt I finally needed to write it now. I bought this product before and it was horrible but then found another eyeliner that actually worked (Milani's eyeliner pencil is amazing) my Milani pencil needs to be sharpened and I dont have a sharpener so as a last minute thing I pulled this out again, it doesnt even last 20 min let alone 16 hours!! I am throwing it away, no one should buy this!

Bought 2 times & only got one use out of each

Bought this item because of its rave reviews. Don't see why. First one I bought, could not twist the pencil up for more product - so only got one use out of it. Tried one more time by purchasing another one - same thing happened (or should I say didn't happen). Also, I find that it smudges throughout the day and goes on clumpy in spots. Wouldn't recommend.

We are so happy to hear that you love this liner. Despite the plastic-coated appearance of the Eyeliner, it can be sharpened with a cosmetic sharpener. Our L'Oréal Dual Sharpener would be a great product to use! For best results, turn the pencil gently in the sharpener 3 or 4 times, being careful not to apply excess pressure. After sharpening, remove all shavings from the blade edge. Your sharpener should be replaced whenever the blade has dulled and is no longer giving the expected results. I really loved this eyeliner. Stayed in place all day. No smudges, didn't end up on my eyelids or under eyes like other "smudge proof" liners I tried. Big problem was I only got 3 uses out of it because I couldn't roll up more product.

Where is the sharpener?!

I have read all the reviews and I see that I’m not alone. There is literally no sharpener. I was finally able to take the bottom cap off with pliers and guess what?! NO SHARPENER! twisting does absolutely nothing. Nothing will advance. This is a complete failure. How is this still on the market??

Built in "sharpener" nonexistent

I tried the black one and the violet one. The black one worked but now is stubbed at the tip and there is no way that tip turns to sharpen. The violet one simply falls out of the pencil - no grab at end of pencil. Tried turning the bottom on both and neither one turns, even with pliers! So I tried turning the top portion and the pliers twisted and broke it off. I am VERY UNHAPPY with this Loreal product. Someone at QC needs to get this fixed and quickly! This is a great product if it only was packaged properly.

As soon as I opened package the end fell off rolled behind vanity no longer to be seen. Then every time you advance the eyeliner it breaks off. It was highly recommended by a co-worker.

Worst excuse on design EVER

The Infallible Longwear eye pencil is the worst. There is no way to sharpen or even extend the crayon part of the pencil. SO DO NOT EVER BUY THIS PRODUCT UNLESS YOU WANT TO WASTE YOUR MONEY.

For a traditional pencil liner we suggest you try our Infallible Pro-Last Waterproof, Up to 24HR Pencil Eyeliner, which sharpens with a sharpener. We hope this helps!

what Sharpener???

I don't get it. Where is the sharpener?? I twist the cap at the end of the "pencil'
and nothing happens. What is supposed to happen? I bought it with a tip. When that receded that was the end of the pencil. I've used it less than 10 times. Help. Loved the liner, but wouldn't buy again because of sharpener issue.

Hi there Jozie! We're sorry to hear you can't use your liner. If you have the Infallible Pro-Last Waterproof, Up to 24HR Pencil Eyeliner, this liner is sharpened using a makeup pencil sharpener. Despite the resin outer pencil, this new generation of gel based liner can be sharpened just like a traditional wooden pencil. Use a gentle touch when sharpening and don't push the pencil with any force into the sharpener. If you're using the Infallible Never Fail Eyeliner, this liner does swivel up, but the first time may take 20 or more turns to bring the swivel pin up to meet the liner. Lousy sharpener ruins a great product

I’ve been using this eyeliner for two years now and love the way it looks, applies, and wears. However, the sharpener is a huge disappointment. It works for about 1/2 to 2/3 of the life of the pencil and then doesn’t sharpen any more. So I buy a new one with a fresh sharpener to use on the older eyeliner, so I’m caught constantly with more eyeliner than functioning sharpener.

Sharpening is difficult

It's nearly impossible to sharpen this eye pencil. Very unhappy with this product. When it's new and there is plenty of pencil at the end to use it's great, applies smoothly but once it need sharpened its useless.

To properly use this product, turn the pencil gently in the sharpener 3 or 4 times, being careful not to apply excess pressure. After sharpening, remove all shavings from the blade edge. The pencil should be sharpened frequently so that 3 or 4 gentle turns are sufficient to achieve the desired result. We hope you can give this product another try!
