What Are the New Makeup Trends for 2023?

Many of the makeup trends we are seeing for spring 2023 rework past trends. TikTok’s clean makeup look is being fine-tuned with simpler elements like fluffy brows that aren’t so sculpted and natural-looking skin that isn’t overly dewy. The super blush trend isn’t going anywhere but has been elaborated with W-shaped blush and L-shaped blush hacks to make application precise, yet easy.

Nostalgic makeup trends like Y2K makeup and hair and rhinestone makeup are still going strong, but have picked up subtle switches like frosted lipstick over frosted lip gloss and tiny, strategically placed rhinestones overelaborate, bejeweled makeup looks. Along with that, subtle grunge makeup with elements of ‘90s makeup trends like skinny brows and dark lip liner are also going to continue to have a strong presence.

What Is the Eyeshadow Color for 2023?

In 2023, expect barely there eyeshadow looks in soft shimmers and neutral shades like taupe, beige, mocha and gray. Using your bronzer as eyeshadow is a great way to achieve this toned-down look. To complement your barely there lids, pair your eyeshadow with graphic eyeliner looks in unexpected hues like purple, green, blue or burgundy.

What Makeup Looks Are in for 2023?

Expect natural makeup looks that prioritize skin while enhancing your natural features to influence trends in 2023. Along with that, more niche styles of makeup like e-girl makeup, subtle grunge makeup, cold girl makeup and flirty siren eye makeup are going to be very popular on social media.

How Do You Do 2023 Eyeshadow?

For 2023 eyeshadow trends, you’ll need a fluffy eyeshadow brush and your favorite neutral shade of eyeshadow. Lightly dip your brush into the powder and swipe it across your lids for a diffused wash of pigment. Spring eyeshadow trends are definitely simpler with fewer shades or blending required, which only helps to simplify and speed up your makeup routine.

9 Makeup Trends to Try for Spring 2023

Spring 2023 has a nice mix of new looks and old trends with subtle upgrades. Here are the nine makeup trends that we expect to have a big influence this season.

1. The Simplified Fresh Face

Thanks to the buzzy glazed donut skin trend and TikTok’s mega-popular clean makeup look, a natural face isn’t going anywhere. This year, expect some changes to the fresh face makeup look for a simpler result. By this, we mean the contour is looking more natural, the brows don’t look laminated and the skin is fresh-looking, not dewy to the point of rivaling an oily complexion.

With that, people aren't using as much foundation as they used to in general and instead are opting for light coverage, using minimal products and makeup with skin care benefits. To hop on the skinimalism bandwagon, reach for the L'Oréal Paris True Match Hyaluronic Tinted Serum. It’s a makeup-meets-skin care savior that helps to hydrate (thanks, hyaluronic acid) and brighten skin, leaving it with a natural, radiant finish.

2. Subtle Embellished Makeup

Feminine with an effortless touch of edge, embellished makeup looks with rhinestones, pearls and glitter are easy to create for an Instagram-worthy beauty look without the need for various eyeshadows and tedious blending. This season, embellished makeup is as popular as ever with a new, simple approach that makes it subtle and barely there.

Instead of placing rhinestones all over your lid to create a fully glam makeup look, place a few of the tiniest rhinestones on your lower lash line to give your eyes a light twinkle that stands out when your face catches the light.

3. Soft, Fluffy Brows

Following along with the simplified fresh face, brows are shifting away from the laminated, soap brow look and are being replaced by natural, fluffy brows with subtle grooming. Instead, you can expect a natural, full brow with a light coating of gel to keep the hair in place. For clean, well-kept brows, use a clear gel, like the L'Oréal Paris Unbelieva-Brow Longwear Waterproof Brow Gel to lightly brush them into place.

4. Super Blush

Go bold or go home is the name of the blush game this spring. Awaken your complexion with a rosy or coral color using the L'Oréal Paris Glow Paradise Lip and Cheek Tint. This multitasking product provides a sheer wash of dewy color to the face while offering a boost of hydration to the skin. It’s easy to build up for that ultra-flushed look, plus, you can use it on your lips to rock an easy monochrome makeup look.

5. Contour Underpainting

Underpainting is a makeup technique where you apply your contour, blush, concealer and highlighter under your foundation. This season, social media has made some adjustments and many are underpainting but only with their contour. By rearranging the order of your makeup, you can achieve a softer, sculpted complexion with a gorgeous blend and a more skin-focused look since less foundation is needed.

To underpaint, take a full-coverage concealer, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Full Wear Concealer up to 24H Full Coverage that’s two to three shades darker than your go-to shade.

Apply a generous amount to the perimeter of your face and under your cheekbones to sculpt them and blend it with a makeup sponge.

Don’t worry — it’s going to look a little crazy and too dark at first, but once you apply your foundation over it, you’re going to look naturally sculpted and seamlessly blended. Since the concealer provides some coverage, opt for a lightweight foundation, like the L’Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Foundation, which offers an oil-free, skin-like finish and medium, buildable coverage.

6. Vampy Lips

A rich, vampy lip is forever a gorgeous statement. For spring, we expect bright pops of pink and corals to be on repeat this year, but the look is slightly darker. For a matte, vampy pink lip, try the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Intense Volume Matte Lipstick in Le Rosewood Ambition

7. Voluminous Lashes

Big, fanned-out lashes will always be in and for obvious reasons: they help emphasize any makeup look, they make your eyes look bigger and they look pretty on everyone. Get the look  with L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Instant Lift Washable Mascara, an addition to the Telescopic mascara family that provides instant length, lift and volume with an innovative two-sided brush that separates your lashes.

8. Colorful, Graphic Liner

Level up your eyeliner game with a graphic liner shape in a pop of color like green, blue or purple. While you can never go wrong with a classic cat-eye, even the subtlest geometric shape in an unexpected hue makes your eyes stand out. Try out the look using the L'Oréal Paris Infallible Grip Precision Felt Waterproof Eyeliner.

9. Barely There Eyeshadow

A barely there eyeshadow look starts with a light hand. It works best with shimmery shades that can add an ethereal glow to your lids without looking foiled and chunky. Use a palette like the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Eyeshadow Palette in Boudoir Charm. , lightly dip your finger into one of the shades and gently dab it across your lid. Then take a fluffy brush to blend in the shadow and you should have the slightest bit of shimmer on your eye that creates a subdued shimmer when it catches the light.
