This Subtle Makeup Look Will Let Your Natural Beauty Shine

February 13, 2019

Even if you follow the latest beauty trends and makeup looks, there are times when you simply don’t want your makeup to overpower your entire look. For days like these, a subtle makeup look is just what you’re looking for. While we can all appreciate a perfectly painted cat eye and glamorous, over-the-top glitter eye makeup, certain situations just call for something more understated. You can set your favorite bright, bold hues aside and go for a subtle makeup look that will give you just the right amount of oompf while also letting your natural beauty shine through. Here, we’re sharing how to create a go-to subtle makeup look that’s perfect for any occasion.

HOW TO CREATE YOUR SUBTLE MAKEUP LOOK

Like we said, subtle makeup is perfect for an everyday look when you either don’t have the time or the patience to commit to a more intense makeup look, or you don’t feel like the occasion is appropriate for a bolder look. Whether it’s a normal workday, a first date, brunch with friends or a wedding reception, wearing a subtle makeup look is the perfect way to ensure your natural beauty won’t be overshadowed by dark liners and bright lip makeup.

What you’ll need:

L'Oréal Paris Infallible Up to 24HR Fresh Wear Foundation, Lightweight

L'Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Glow Amour Glow Boosting Drops

L'Oréal Paris Infallible Blend Artist Foundation Blender

L'Oréal Paris Infallible Full Wear Concealer Waterproof, Full Coverage

L'Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Waterproof, Up to 24HR Pencil Eyeliner in Brown

Small eye shadow brush

L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche Pocket Palette Eye Shadow in Boudoir Charme

L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara in Black

Large face powder brush

L'Oréal Paris Unbelievabrow Longwear Waterproof Brow Gel

L'Oréal Paris Infallible Longwear Highlighter Shaping Stick in Slay-in-Rose

Here’s how to get the look:

Step 1: Lay down a light base

The goal here isn’t to look cakey, of course, or even to really contour. A light base is all you need! Start things off by applying a thin layer of breathable foundation all over your entire complexion. For an added glow, you can mix a few highlighter drops with your foundation. Use your makeup blender to apply and you should be off to a natural-looking start!

Step 2: Conceal any trouble areas

Hey, it may be a subtle makeup look you’re going for, but you still don’t want to show off your skin’s imperfections, do you? Use a lightweight concealer to hide any trouble areas, such as blemishes or dark spots, as well as dark circles under eyes.

Step 3: Enhance your eyes

For a subtle makeup look, you won’t want to go overboard on the eye makeup. Instead, stick with a brown eyeliner pencil, which you should use to trace your upper lash line only. Next, apply a light dusting of the shimmery beige eye shadow in your palette onto your upper lid.

Step 4: Add a bit of contrast

If you want to step up your eye makeup ever so slightly, consider also adding a second color of eyeshadow as an accent. To keep it subtle, use the shade of brown in your palette that’s only slightly darker than the one you already applied. With a small eye shadow brush, apply the shadow onto the outer corners of your upper eyelid. Sweep on a coat of mascara and the eye makeup portion of your look is complete!

Step 5: Give yourself a cheeky glow

Next, reach for a bronzer that’s about one to two shades darker than your skin tone. Using a large powder brush, sweep the bronzer onto each cheek. Not too much—just enough to give your cheekbones some natural-looking definition.

Step 6: Fill in your brows

No makeup look would be complete without filling in your brows. Use your brow gel to lightly shade your brows, then comb through with a spoolie to create a more natural look.

Step 7: Add a natural-looking highlight

Grab your highlighter stick and apply a small amount of product onto the high points of your complexion—your brow bones, upper cheekbones, cupid’s bow, and the tip of your nose. Remember, even if you love highlighter, this isn’t the right look to go overboard with illumination! Just a touch of shimmer will do the trick.

Step 8: Give your lips a little color

Lastly, before you head out the door, swipe on a bit of light pink lip gloss, such as the L'Oréal Paris Infallible 8HR Le Gloss in Blush.
