Militza Yovanka Paris Fashion Week Sleek Bob

Nothing complements a chic wardrobe better than the perfect hairstyle — celebrities and influencers understand this all too well. And if you’re traveling the globe in the name of fashion week then you typically have a few go-to hairstyles that work with many looks.

For influencer Militza Yovanka, walking in L’Oréal Paris’ Le Défilé Walk Your Worth meant a hair and makeup look that made her feel beautiful and empowered. So we checked in with Jonathan Colombini, celebrity hairstylist and creative director of style and color for L’Oréal Paris, to get to scoop on how to recreate Yovanka’s sleek bob for the show. Keep reading to find out why he chose this classic look for the influencer and to get his steps so that you can recreate the look at home.

“Militza’s dress for Le Défilé’ was a statement full of black feathers that had a collar. She needed something simple and chic, yet complementary,” he says regarding why he chose a sleek bob for the beauty. “These short bobs bring such a powerful and feminine presence, it was sure to complete the look.

Colombini also says that it’s a style we can expect to see in 2023 — what better occasion to put it down the runway than Le Défilé?

“This is a style that has been around since the 1920’s and 1930’s, with the iconic Louise Brooks debuting this haircut on the silent screens as a way to empower femininity and go against what society dubbed as acceptable,” he explained. “Not only will we continue to see this haircut and style next year, but for decades after. Once a staple has been accepted and refurbished for decades, the modern world puts its own flavor to it.”

How to Get the Look

Follow these simple steps to do this straight bob for your next special occasion.

Step 1. Start With Clean Hair

Shampoo and condition with the L’Oréal Paris EverPure Sulfate-Free Glossing Shampoo, pH Balanced and L’Oréal Pari EverPure Sulfate-Free Glossing Shampoo, pH Balanced. “A clean and healthy base is important,” Colombini says. He also advises to towel dry your strands really well to avoid diluting any styling products.

Step 2. Prep With Heat Protectant

We can’t stress this step enough — before you pick up any hot tools, coat your strands with heat protectant. Finer textures should reach for the L’Oréal Paris EverPure Sulfate-Free Weightless Blow Dry Primer, while those with thicker hair textures should opt for the L’Oréal Paris EverPure Sulfate-Free 21-in-1 Color Caring Spray, Leave In. Apply it evenly throughout your hair prior to blow drying. When applied to damp hair before blow drying they both offer up to 450 degrees of heat protection.

Step 3. Power Dry Before Brushing

Power dry most of the moisture in the hair before introducing a round or flat brush to your styling process. Brush any knots or tangles out of your hair as you smooth it out with the blow dryer and create the volume you desire.

Step 4. Add a Twist

Once your hair is blown out straight and smooth the option is yours to either have a little bend in it or to keep it completely sleek. Of course, there’s also the option to forgo the straight style for texture if you already have curly or wavy hair.

“Wearing this haircut and style with any texture — from curly to wavy or straight — is simply the age of time,” says Colombini. “There is such a story behind this style and yet with each generation that achieves this, they too are adding to the legacy of the story!”

Step 5. Finish With Your Flat Iron

“If using a flat iron, focus on the mid-length and ends of your hair only to keep a little volume,” he finishes. “If you want less volume, start at the roots and work to the ends with your flat iron.”

Editor’s tip: If you need to lock in your style for the day (and night) spritz it with the L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold, Light Hairspray Unscented before you head out.
