Challenging and disappointing
I was unsure how to use it and use the reviews to figure out that I needed to sharpen the plastic. I was excited and then immediately disappointed because the product is completely dried out and useless. Also it's loose about to break off

Great, but need recommendation for Sharpener
L'Oreal needs to recommend a pencil sharpener too go with this particular liner! I love this lip pencil, but the tip breaks with sharpening. The color stick then falls out. I need a recommendation for the best sharpener for this plastic-coated liner. I love Red color. I use it with a L'Oreal cream lipstick called British Red #350.

On par with $$$$ lip liners
My pencil sharpened totally fine with the normal lip pencil sharpener that I use, so I don’t know what these reviews are talking about?? I got matte’s it and the color is gorgeous, it’s super creamy, easy to apply, longer lasting than a lot of the expensive and fancy lip liners I’ve tried, and wears beautifully. Please don’t discontinue this!

Poor technique to use the rest of the pencil
After original point was down, tried twisting, nothing happened, tried sharpening with a cosmetic sharpener& it was hard, rigid & could not get any more of the pencil down! Not a good value for the money

No way to sharpen or roll up.
I really liked the color and how easily the lip liner went on and stayed on. However, there was no way to sharpen it, twist up or use it more that 2 weeks.

Amazing liner
This liner is my favorite of all time. I use shade 112 mattestermind with Mac creme cup and it is LITERALLY MY PERFECT LIP COMBO. I never leave reviews but I have to say this product is easy to apply, creamy, and lasts me all through the day, even on 8 hour shifts,

Terrible. Won't buy again.
Purchased this product that claims to be sharpenable. What a joke! I used it once, tried sharpening and the tip broke off. Now won't sharpen at all. Piece of junk. Too bad it has to be purchased before realizing that. Should be taken off the market. Shame on Loreal. I am a long time Loreal customer, but not going forward.

Great if you could sharpen it
Color and texture are great, but you can't sharpen the pencil! Who would ever think you have to buy a special sharpener to use the product?? I tried using another lip liner sharpener with no success. I even tried to use an electric sharpener that I use for regular pencils.

I have many many lipsticks and lip liners, all L’Oréal matte & color rich. Since these products are my passion, I’m always looking for the next best application. I always feel pretty or sexy in nudes, mattes 110-112-114 lipliner & heavy creamy matte lipsticks. I panic if they aren’t in my 3 makeup cases. To Go cosmetic case(remains in car). Travel case & home case, forgot my handbag. These L’Oréal staples are my must-have’s. A long time customer who really loves your line of beauty products. A extremely poor quality product.
I just bought this liner from L’Oréal in Matte Stermind. It’s a Beautiful color! However that’s where it ends for a good review. I Can’t get the liner out out of the skinny barrel to use it much less even sharpen it. This is not a quality made product! Very cheaply made. The quickest way to lose customers is to sell products that don’t work right out of the packaging. Please remake this liner in better container with better ease of use. I would like my money back please.

Change the packaging
The plastic wrap around the product is on so tightly and the perforation is useless. I spent 10 minutes trying to get the liner open, the top came off and broke the tip off, but I kept opening to find out it isn’t a twist and I need a sharpener for it. I threw it right in the garbage because I was beyond aggravated. Have no idea what it may have looked or felt like to wear it.

Love this lip liner in Shade #112
Love this lip liner...my favorite shade is Matte-stermind. I am on my 6th one. I don't know why folks are having a hard time sharpening this pencil. It's like a hundred others I've ever had. I just used a sharpener I already had (has two different size openings) and just twist a couple of times and it comes out perfect!! It's not retractable, it's not meant to be. I sure hope this produce is never discontinued!!!!

One use lipstick!
There is no way that the tip extends outside the opening…use the lips tip to line lips once & unable to get anymore use of the lip color! Totally dissatisfied & disappointed in this product!

Love the Matte's It
I love this lip liner. I have re-purchased "Matte's It" and "Mattstermind" many times. Yes, you do have to sharpen it, but you don't have to buy a special Loreal sharpener for that purpose. I had an older sharpener that is made for two different size pencils and I have used it to sharpen. You do need to sharpen very slowly so that you get the point you need, but at the same time don't waste your lip pencil. I really hope these two colors are not discontinued.

Impossible to sharpen
The lip liner is impossible to sharpen. I went to your site and found that for years people have been complaining about the fact that, while it looks like a self-sharpening liner, it actually needs a separate sharpener. And even with a cosmetic sharpener it doesn't work well

I just bought 2 of these and had to look up online on how to sharpen, come to find out!…you have to buy a special sharpener I’m not rich not I’m stuck until payday again and I only used it twice for it to be resharpened!!! Not cool I’m not happy with this although I loved the product and colors☹️

Beautiful color, but, NOT user friendly.
I just bought this because I liked the bright pink color. NOW I find out: "This matte lip pencil can be sharpened with the L’Oréal Paris Dual Sharpener." Really??? It should come w/it, OR, at least tell you on the packet it can only be sharped w/THIS PARTICULAR SHARPENER. Now I have to go back to the store to purchase another item, which I had not planned on doing. NOT COOL!

Loreal...obviously you are aware of the issues your customers are having with this lip liner...i.e. there are no instructions on how to sharpen the pencil, but you have not corrected the problem. I also could not figure out how to sharpen it. I was about to return it to the store when I looked it up online and found out even though it looks plastic you have to have a special sharpener to sharpen it like a pencil. The reviews are years old so i ask...why haven't you corrected the problem by including instructions for sharpening???

Matte's-it is my favorite lip pencil of all time.
I use Matte's-it lip liner all the time. It's so natural looking and smooth. You do have to use a pencil sharpener with it but that's no big deal. I hope Loreal continues this line (even if it has to create a new kind of pencil) because this is the BEST color and coverage I've ever used in a lip pencil. I also use Loreal products because your company was a leader in agreeing to stop using the dangerous PFA plastics.

Bought 3 and none will sharpen!
The lip liner is IMPOSSIBLE to sharpen. I have tried 6 different sharpeners and 3 different liners ( same color #114) and am tired of trying. It breaks every time!

Poor design.
This product is wrapped in shrink-wrapped plastic and it is very hard to see what the construction of the tip is. There is no product labeling or how-to-use instructions. After trying to figure out how to sharpen, I checked the website and found out that it requires a specific sharpener. The packaging should say this.

Horrible packaging
I bought a lip liner a wore it as often as possible until it needed to advance out of the plastic pencil. I took it to work to ask the other ladies how they would make this work and none of us could figure it out. Now I come online and I realize the company knows this is a problem and has done nothing. You took my money and gave me a faulty product. How can I trust L’Oreal?

Great Liner But There’s Always a But
I keep L’Oréal Colour Riche Lio Liner in my collection. Since I can no longer find HZT70W or HZP11W I have had to purchase Mattes-It, Matte-ing Call and Master-Mind (this is most used) but the other newer colors have been horrible to sharpen even with the L’Oréal brand dual sharpener. I am losing so much product each time. It either gets jammed up and breaks off during sharpening or it breaks off while using. The product it GREAT but I can afford to continue to purchase a new liner each week. Sorry L’Oréal but I may have to look around to try and match your colors to another brand.

Love, hate relationship
I bought two of these lip liners. I love the color, its so smooth. But I can't use all the product without buying a sharper. I wish they would have put it on the packaging that you had to buy another tool just to sharpen and get use of all the product in the liner. It's like they're taking tips from Apple. SMH. Wonderful product, poor execution.

Great product, poor design.
Finally I found a lipliner that was the PERFECT color and would line well, stay all day and look great on my 58 year old lips. HOWEVER, there is NO WAY to dial up/push up the product once used down. I have no problem purchasing the separate sharpener. But to purchase a product with the assumption you can use the entire product and you can't is very disappointing! I even broke open the pencil housing in sheer frustration and there is PLENTY of product in the pencil. Just no way to advance the crayon out of the pencil. L'oreal, I've used your products for over 40 years with continued success. Please reengineer this product!

I really don’t understand why they would make a plastic or “plastic coated” lip liner need to be SHARPENED. I bought two liners and used each once before they were in need of sharpening and no sharpener I have tried has worked. If there is one specific sharpener that works for this product then it should be included in the package or boldly stated on the package. Even if the cost of the liner were to go up because the sharpener was included I would still purchase because the actual liner is a perfect color and great consistency. Do not recommend the cost for a one time use though.

Money wasted.
What a waste of money! I used it once or twice and now I can’t use it anymore because I thought I would be able to twist it to get the rest of it but it’s not adjustable. I see now that we have to sharpen it but why then does it not come with its own sharpener? Anyway I’m very disappointed with L’Oreal and I’m a Very good customer normally but I will not buy any more!

Poor product!

Once this pencil used up the tip there was no way to push up a new tip. It needed to be sharpened and was useless!! A waste of money. The color is great but impossible to use without sharpening the tip with difficulty!!!!!

L'Oreal Colour Riche Matte lip liner
This product does not sharpen! Today is the 3rd time I have purchase this lip liner thinking I did not do something right during sharpening. It is not me, it is the poor design of the product plus it is misleading as it looks like it is a twist rather than requiring sharpening. It is a total waste of money. Plus disappointing that you would make something like this which does not fit your style or class. There will not be a 4th time buying your lip liner.

Terrible design
I have been using Loreal for years. I love the color but plastic pencil is horrible. Twist up there is no waste this design plastic breaks of and I used several make up sharpeners. The worst area is the imprinted lettering.

Bought this thinking it was a twist up liner. Very disappointed. I dislike ones that need sharpened but even worse the sharpener I have doesn't work on the plastic casing. Waste of money. Do not want to spend more money to buy the Loreal sharpener as I never plan to buy this product again. Money down the drain.

No way to bring up more liner
Purchased this liner yesterday. Love the color and product. Wished I had read these reviews. Forget the sharpening. I can’t even bring the liner up. It doesn’t turn if that is what it does? Surely, I didn’t pay for an 1/8 of an inch of liner? Thought of taking a wrench to it but will return it instead. There is obviously a productIon issue that a sharpener isn’t going to fix.

Stick inside the pencil keeps breaking...
Just bought few weeks ago and I love the color! However, the reason for the 2 star rating is because the actual stick inside the pencil keeps breaking! I have to sharpen it all the time and throw the rest of the broken stick away, which is a huge waste of product and money. I bought many different sharpeners... :(

Great color, bad product
Purchased liner, #110 MATTE’S IT, a few weeks ago. Love the color, but the product itself is a waste of money. It’s supposed to be sharpened, but almost impossible as the outer shell makes it hard to turn and sharpen as advertised.

Limp lip liner
I bought this not realizing it was a sharpenable lip liner. After sharpening it for the first time the tip broke off in the sharpener. I feel like a lot of the product will be wasted in this manner. COVERGIRL has a similar product, but it twists up instead of needing to be sharpened. I’ll be going back to it.

Love it and Disappointed
Just bought this a week ago and I am so in love with the color and staying power. However, the reason for the 2 star rating is because the actual stick inside the pencil keeps breaking! Which means I have to constantly sharpen it and throw the rest of the broken stick away, which is a huge waste of product and money. I'm think the reason it keeps breaking internally is because of the matte formula combined with the soft texture?

Disappointed - Can't Sharpen
I bought this because I love Loreal Lip Liners because they don't feather but not only can I NOT find a way to sharpen but the print is so small on the labeling that I couldn't read the label to see what color it was. I have sharpeners but the casing is plastic and almost impossible to sharpen. Huge waste of my money. C'mon Loreal...you can do better!

Worst product!
I bought this lip liner yesterday and got to use it once b4 it broke and their is no way to roll up new product. I was so excited because this was the first lip liner I’d ever purchased and the perfect color but my experience with this liner makes me not want to buy another one at least not from L’Oréal.

No sharpener readily available in retailers????
I bought this liner. No retail store sells the sharpener, despite your website stating it is available at Walmart. So a customer has to buy the $3.99 shrpener online, pay additional costs for shipping and essentially pay more for for the sharpener than the liner!!! Insane....I am returning the liners despite loving the product.....

Not as expected
I purchased the lip liner today and just opened it. About 1/8" of the liner is above the opening. I cannot increase the amount of lipliner showing. I have tried twisting the tube but nothing happens. I really hate the idea of spending $$$ for 1/8" of product. I should have read these reviews first. I like L'Oreal lipsticks and I thought I would like this product...but I don't. I will return it asap. I would recommend the lipsticks but not the liner.

Messy and breaks easily
I have tried this lip liner several times. Each time I have been very disappointed because it breaks easily I sharpen it to get a good pointed edge to line my lips And each time I sharpen the pencil the liner brakes and I have to re-sharpened and then before you know it there’s none left
It’s expensive and I prefer the other one by L’Oreal pencil because you can’t waste it as you roll it out. Not as messy .

Faulty product?
I bought this thinking it was the perfect color so it was worth the bit extra in comparison to a standard pencil. The tip broke and I thought, no problem, I’ll just twist someth...oh wait, nothing it twisting...is the tip all I get?!! I couldn’t figure out what was wrong, I just assumed mine was faulty...but I needed it that night!! So I did what anyone in my position would do...try any means to get the color out! See photo below (still didn’t work, I got nothing out of it)

Worst L'Oreal Product I've Ever Used
First the pencil broke the plastic pencil sharpener I used. Then the metal one had trouble removing the plastic casing on the soft liner; the lip product itself broke in the sharpener. The sharpened plastic casing scratched my lips. The pencil had to be resharpened with every use.
