How to Play Up Your Dimples With Makeup

June 12, 2020

Let’s be honest—most of us have Googled, “how to get dimples” at one point or another. There’s just something about these small indentations that add personality and character to any beauty look. And if you have dimples, it’s safe to say you’re #blessed. But did you know you can emphasize and fake dimples with makeup? Yup, you can use your makeup look to fake a contagious smile like no other! Interested? Follow the tutorials below to either play up your dimples or “create” them using a little makeup.

HOW TO EMPHASIZE YOUR DIMPLES

Have dimples but wish they were more prominent? Here’s what to do.

STEP #1. PRIME YOUR FACE

As with any face makeup look, it’s important to start by applying makeup primer. Smooth the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Lock Makeup Primer over your complexion to create an even base for the rest of your dimple-enhancing makeup.

STEP #2. APPLY FOUNDATION

Of course, you’ll want to perfect your face, which is where foundation comes in. Opt for a lightweight formula that will wear well as you layer on more makeup products, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible 24 Hour Fresh Wear Foundation, Lightweight. Apply it with a makeup sponge for a seamless, airbrushed finish.

STEP #3. CONTOUR YOUR DIMPLES

You may be familiar with contouring your cheekbones or even your collarbone, but did you know you could contour your dimples? Yup! If you want to emphasize your dimples with makeup, you’ll need to contour them. Here’s what to do.

Step 1. Grab your makeup. You’ll need a matte powder eyeshadow in a color that’s one to two shades darker than your skin tone. You can also use a contour powder—the one you use for the rest of your face will work.

Step 2. Smile! Smile a big smile. This will let you see exactly where your dimples are, and make it easier to contour them.

Step 3. Fill them in. Use a small, tapered eyeshadow brush to fill in your dimples with the powder.

Step 4. Blend it out. Blend well to ensure there are no harsh lines.

STEP #5. STRATEGICALLY PLACE BLUSH AND HIGHLIGHTER

To aid in your dimple makeup look, it’s important to be mindful of where you place other face makeup products, like your blush and highlighter. Be sure that your blush and highlighter is focused on the upper half of your cheeks to avoid applying either over your dimples. You wouldn’t want to take away from their natural (or faux) beauty, would you?

STEP #6. FINISH YOUR LOOK

We’re almost done! While your dimples may have the spotlight, now’s the time to complete the rest of your makeup look. Use this time to expertly apply the eye makeup of your choosing as well as a pretty lip color.

STEP #7. MIST ON A SETTING SPRAY

To make sure all that hard work doesn’t go to waste, finish by spritzing on a setting spray. This will ensure your dimples look just as great all day and night. Apply the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray and Set Make-Up Oil-Free Setting Spray in “X” and “T” motions over your face.

HOW TO GET DIMPLES WITH MAKEUP

Don’t have dimples to work with? That’s ok! You can get the look of dimples with just a little extra effort. Follow the steps below in place of contouring your dimples—the rest of your look can remain the same.

Step #1. Grab your makeup

To fake dimples with makeup, all you need is a brown eyebrow pencil or eyeliner (we recommend using one that has a waterproof formula, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Waterproof, Up to 24HR Pencil Eyeliner in Brown) and a blending brush.

Step #2. Draw your dimples

Using your eyeliner or eyebrow pencil, draw a half-circle about half an inch to one inch away from the ends of your lips. Do this one both sides of your pout, with the semi-circles opening toward your mouth.

Step #3. Blend it out

We’d be willing to bet you wouldn’t want harsh lines to give away your dimple secret. Blend, blend, blend for faux dimples no one would second guess!
