Usage

Expert Application Technique. Place the basecoat brush at the base of lashes and gently sweep up to tip. Apply the Step 2 topcoat immediately after Step 1; no need to wait for drying time in between! Place the tube brush at the base of lashes and gently sweep up to tip.To remove: simply smooth tubes away with your fingertips when washing your face using plenty of warm water, or hold a cotton pad soaked in warm water on the lashes for 30 seconds.

I can't live without this. PERIOD.

This is the ONLY mascara of its kind. When I cry, which is often because I'm sensitive, it doesn't run OR smear. However, since it's not waterproof when you want it off add water and it comes off in little tubules. It's incredible.

Did the formula change? (sigh)

It seems that Loreal may have changed the formula for this product. It has been my tried and true, go-to mascara for years! It lengthened and defined my lashes, it didn't smudge or flake off - but it did wash off easily with soap and water. Perfection!! The last 3 tubes I've tried all have the same issue. It will not wash off. I don't want to risk pulling out my eyelashes trying to remove this stuff. What happened??

Still my favorite after 17 years

I've been using Double Extend since 2009. It's literally the only mascara that doesn't smudge under my eyes. My only complaint is that eventually it will start to flake a little bit after the tube is a few months old. It's affordable enough though that I throw that one away and buy a new tube. I really don't know what I'll do if L'Oreal ever stops making this mascara

I've been using this mascara for years. It is highly underrated. Much cheaper than other tubing mascaras. I honestly think that L'Oreal should spend more $ promoting this product.

I love this mascara have been using it forever I never use the waterproof because I don’t like anything waterproof it’s horrible to take off. I have had experiences when bought it isn’t the same formula but I learned you can’t order and have it delivered especially from Amazon because not sure if it’s old or not. Walgreens definitely has old mascaras as well. As I said I love this mascara I have always got compliments and now with everyone wearing false lashes people think I wear lashes. I definitely recommend this mascara . Also for removal I love it it’s the easiest I just use warm water and brush with my fingers and it gently comes off. I have full lashes and they are not thin at all never lost any lashes either . One complaint I have is why don’t you make the brown anymore ? I like to use brown for every day use and the blackest black for going out because it is very dramatic. Thank you please don’t ever stop making this mascara it’s the best out there and so affordable!!!!!!

Felt like glue very sticky, took off my real eylas

I use to love this mascara back in 2019-2020. I bought it recently at Walgreens and it felt like glue was on my eyelashes and eye lid. When taking it off my eyelashes came off as well. So now I’m missing parts of my eyelashes. I don’t know what changed but please be careful. I would not recommend.

Fair - the primer was non-existent

Step 1 - the primer - was empty. I couldn't figure out what was supposed to happen until I saw an online review and it showed a white primer that you could actually see on your lashes. The quality control needs to be stepped up!

I couldn't find my usual mascara L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Superstar Washable Mascara, Blackest Black, so I thought I'd try this L'Oreal product (it looked similar) What a mistake! It is a nightmare to remove. No matter what method I try to use to remove it I would have a black residue on my face. Never again!

The Holy Grail of Mascaras; But Please Add Brown

Cons: 1 ) The Step 1 - Nourish & Protect is white: I think the way to improve upon this would be for L’Oreal to make the color just a few shades lighter than the intended result. 2 ) Stains: If it weren’t for the fact that this mascara has SO MANY other INCREDIBLE qualities, I would remove a star for this. If it happens to come off, which should be nearly non-existent, it will stain. I am yet to find anything that will remove it from fabric. 3) Only comes in two shades of black. Where is the variety? Pros: 1) Volume: This mascara is serious about providing thickness and length. 2 ) Tears-proof: Yes, within the past 2+ years I have cried in this mascara plenty and it hasn’t budged. 3 ) Oil-proof: I have oily skin, brows, and eyelids. All previous “waterproof” non-tubing mascaras will melt or flake below my lower lid by the end of the day. This one looks as good at the end of the day as it did at the beginning. 4 ) Blizzard-proof: This mascara has been tested multiple times in snowy, blizzard-like conditions and doesn’t budge one bit. 5 ) Sweat-proof: I’ve worked out and even had sweat stinging my eyes, more times than I can count, but this mascara will not run or smudge or flake. It remains flawless. 6 ) Humidity-proof: I have traveled to humid areas of the U.S. multiple times since having this mascara and it absolutely stayed put. 7 ) Waterproof: Mostly yes, but also no. I have been in pools, hot tubs, in the ocean, and of course my shower, and wash my face in the sink. I have been splashed in the eyes in all these places. Just getting the mascara wet, even with hot tub water, will not make it come off. It takes persistent wetness combined with rubbing to make it really come off. 8 ) Sleep-proof: Mostly. Firstly, I am not condoning sleeping in any mascara. You make that choice at your own risk. The results are likely to be a crapshoot unless you sleep with a giant dome-eyed face mask on. You may wake up with flawless lashes or your eyelashes may become clumped together or flake a little in your sleep. 9 ) Lasts for a long time: Yes, you already know from various things I’ve said that this mascara is figuratively bullet-proof. But one tube of it also seems to last a lot longer than I expected it to. L’Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara may have a name that’s excessively long (just like this review), and it may not sound very cool or sexy, but it will be the mascara you pray will never be discontinued and the mascara you’ve waited for your entire life. Now make it in Brown, L’Oreal!

I hate this mascara/lie of a mascara

One of the worst mascara I have ever tried. I can’t believe I spent my money on this. It’s like black water on my eyes does not even stay. Doesn’t even look like I have a mascara on made me look like I barely have hair on my eyes. The opposite of what is meant to do. I dig through my trash just to get my old mascara because of how bad this mascara made me look

Reformulation/Shelf-Life change?

Has this product reformulated? I have bought faithfully via Amazon subscription for years and have the daily use and shelf life down to a science. Since fall of '24 i've had issues where it gets dry/clumpy by two months instead of the normal 3 months use life, so i need to buy more frequently. This is very disappointing.

Best mascara I’ve ever used!!! I try others and always end up back with this one. I love how it doesn’t flake out smudge which I have such a problem with. Then to take it off just some warm water and the tubes come right off. No mess around my eyes. It’s just the best!!!

LOVE - no flaking and lashes stay curled all day!

So far I am very impressed with this mascara. Why didn't I know about tubing mascara years ago?! I prefer to only use the black mascara end as the white pre-conditioning left my lashes a bit too clumpy and takes more time to apply and then separate. What I love is that there is no flaking AND my lashes once curled STAY CURLED ALL DAY. Only waterproof mascara has ever done this. I also love how easy it is to remove with warm water. Please don't discontinue this product and may add a version with only the black color!

Have been using this for years! I love that the wand is not curved so I can control it better. I just bought a different L'oreal mascara because I couldn't find this, and have spent two days looking like a raccoon. Even waterproof mascara smudged around my eyes. My Eyes were always red when I wore mascara. I started using Beauty Tubes mascara and no smudging and my eyes are never red. Beaty Tubes all the way! Tip: Don’t forget the base coat dry before you add the black on top!

Only trying it because I have oily eyelids and everything else smudges. Not a fan of having to use two steps and it certainly doesn't make my lashes 80% longer as advertised.

Very good mascara, I love it! Hopefully they don't discontinue this product because, I finally found a mascara that goes well with my eyelashes. The mascara does not weight down my eyelashes and the volume that it gives my eyelashes is amazing.

Best beauty tube mascara

I have sparse, short, straight lashes. I also have dry sensitive eyes. This mascara give me to die for lashes. I get asked what mascara I use all the time. I love that it just washes off with warm water....no rubbing or tugging or lash loss or panda eyes trying to wash this mascara off like others products. It's great for a full makeup look as well as a no makeup look. Most days I just do brows, mascara and lipgloss... The no hassle clean up is the best. I also love that it is dual ended with both the primer and mascara. One less product to buy/taking up room in my makeup bag. I'm surprised this product doesn't get more love. I have been using it for years, now it's what my daughter uses as well.

I purchased this and step 1white tube does not have a squeegee part to get the excess portion of the brush. Is this normal? If so, it's messy and goopy.

I often skip the primer and only use the topcoat. Do you sell topcoat separately? Or is there another product comparable?

I have never done much with wearing makeup. Just curious on where to start and how to get started and easily determine shades and tones without having to go into a store. Also looking for something that will cover well and doesn’t look caked on.

Has this formula recently changed? My daughter an I have both been wearing this since it first came out and have both noticed a difference in consistency recently.

Do you let the basecoat dry before adding the topcoat? Should you add the topcoat as soon as possible- ie one eye at a time, or do you let it set for ~30 seconds allowing both eyes to be primed then add the topcoat? Thanks,

  Hi there! Place the basecoat brush at the base of lashes and gently sweep up to tip. Apply the Step 2 topcoat immediately after Step 1; no need to wait for drying time in between! Place the tube brush at the base of lashes and gently sweep up to tip. We hope this is helpful!

It lengthened and defined my lashes, it didn't smudge or flake off - but it did wash off easily with soap and water. Perfection!! The last 3 tubes I've tried all have the same issue. It will not wash off. I don't want to risk pulling out my eyelashes trying to remove this stuff. What happened??

My only complaint is that eventually it will start to flake a little bit after the tube is a few months old. It's affordable enough though that I throw that one away and buy a new tube. I really don't know what I'll do if L'Oreal ever stops making this mascara

I have had experiences when bought it isn’t the same formula but I learned you can’t order and have it delivered especially from Amazon because not sure if it’s old or not. Walgreens definitely has old mascaras as well. As I said I love this mascara I have always got compliments and now with everyone wearing false lashes people think I wear lashes. I definitely recommend this mascara . Also for removal I love it it’s the easiest I just use warm water and brush with my fingers and it gently comes off. I have full lashes and they are not thin at all never lost any lashes either . One complaint I have is why don’t you make the brown anymore ? I like to use brown for every day use and the blackest black for going out because it is very dramatic. Thank you please don’t ever stop making this mascara it’s the best out there and so affordable!!!!!!

I bought it recently at Walgreens and it felt like glue was on my eyelashes and eye lid. When taking it off my eyelashes came off as well. So now I’m missing parts of my eyelashes. I don’t know what changed but please be careful. I would not recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Heat from The Holy Grail of Mascaras; But Please Add Brown Cons: 1 ) The Step 1 - Nourish & Protect is white: I think the way to improve upon this would be for L’Oreal to make the color just a few shades lighter than the intended result. 2 ) Stains: If it weren’t for the fact that this mascara has SO MANY other INCREDIBLE qualities, I would remove a star for this. If it happens to come off, which should be nearly non-existent, it will stain. I am yet to find anything that will remove it from fabric. 3) Only comes in two shades of black. Where is the variety? Pros: 1) Volume: This mascara is serious about providing thickness and length. 2 ) Tears-proof: Yes, within the past 2+ years I have cried in this mascara plenty and it hasn’t budged. 3 ) Oil-proof: I have oily skin, brows, and eyelids. All previous “waterproof” non-tubing mascaras will melt or flake below my lower lid by the end of the day. This one looks as good at the end of the day as it did at the beginning. 4 ) Blizzard-proof: This mascara has been tested multiple times in snowy, blizzard-like conditions and doesn’t budge one bit. 5 ) Sweat-proof: I’ve worked out and even had sweat stinging my eyes, more times than I can count, but this mascara will not run or smudge or flake. It remains flawless. 6 ) Humidity-proof: I have traveled to humid areas of the U.S. multiple times since having this mascara and it absolutely stayed put. 7 ) Waterproof: Mostly yes, but also no. I have been in pools, hot tubs, in the ocean, and of course my shower, and wash my face in the sink. I have been splashed in the eyes in all these places. Just getting the mascara wet, even with hot tub water, will not make it come off. It takes persistent wetness combined with rubbing to make it really come off. 8 ) Sleep-proof: Mostly. Firstly, I am not condoning sleeping in any mascara. You make that choice at your own risk. The results are likely to be a crapshoot unless you sleep with a giant dome-eyed face mask on. You may wake up with flawless lashes or your eyelashes may become clumped together or flake a little in your sleep. 9 ) Lasts for a long time: Yes, you already know from various things I’ve said that this mascara is figuratively bullet-proof. But one tube of it also seems to last a lot longer than I expected it to. L’Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara may have a name that’s excessively long (just like this review), and it may not sound very cool or sexy, but it will be the mascara you pray will never be discontinued and the mascara you’ve waited for your entire life. Now make it in Brown, L’Oreal!

I prefer to only use the black mascara end as the white pre-conditioning left my lashes a bit too clumpy and takes more time to apply and then separate. What I love is that there is no flaking AND my lashes once curled STAY CURLED ALL DAY. Only waterproof mascara has ever done this. I also love how easy it is to remove with warm water. The formula extends my lashes wonderfully too; they are full and long looking. I get lots of compliments.

This is the only one I have found that does not! It washes away completely smudge free as well! Pleeeease never discontinue this item! It’s my favorite product in my entire makeup bag!

I use Cetaphil and water to dampen, and let sit for a few minutes and rinse it off, with no lash breakage, when washing my face at the end of the day.

Today I went to stock up at Ulta and I did not see it on the display. I asked the sales associate about it. She looked it up and it said that it was out of stock online and she did not have any in store. She thought that maybe it was being discontinued. I am shattered. I hope that it isn’t discontinued and just that Ulta stopped carrying it. Please do not ever stop making this. Everything else would cause smudging around my brow, bone and beneath my eye area. I’ve tried so many mascaras, and this is the only one that doesn’t leave smudges. I have oily skin and I use a lot of creams. Please don’t ever discontinue it, room those with oily skin need this mascara!

I have gotten so many people to start using this. My local Target has not had it for weeks and I had to find it on Amazon after trying 3 other types of L’Oréal mascara. My only criticism: I will say that I do NOT use the white primer. It never hides well enough, no matter how many coats of the black I do. I wish you could make the primer black as well. PLEASE. For awhile you offered another double ended mascara that did have a blackish gray primer but it was not the beauty tubes and I threw it away.

My lashes are so long they hit my eye bone and traditional mascara rubs off easily when I get oily. I've tried other tubing mascaras too and nothing compares to this.

No looking like Alice Cooper when you take it off. My own lashes are healthier than ever as they stay protected.

Here’s how: get your washcloth sloppy wet with warm water, bend over the sink with the washcloth against your eyes for about 10 seconds…and it ALL comes od easy peasy. Second method: get in the shower and it all just floats off. What will make it stick is, ironically, eye remover/soap. For a mascara th that comes off so easily with warm water, Thai actually stays ON through tears, North Carolina humidity, work, and a day at the pool. It never smudges or flakes. I’ve used it for 5 years and people tell me I have beautiful lashes. L’ORÉAL: please make this in BROWN!!

If you're over 50 this is a brilliant mascara, since not only does it not smudge, clump, or run, it removes without any rubbing whatsoever. Your delicate under eye skin is particularly vulnerable to wrinkling and this easy removal requires no rubbing or application of oily remover. Simply wet a washcloth (I love the Olay cleansing cloths that you use with water), and then close an eye and hold the cloth on your lashes.. Wait a few seconds and it wipes right off cleanly onto the cloth AND you'll ever wake up in the morning without smudgy black under your eyes. I've passed this information along to my fashion newsletter followers for as long as I've used it, and hundreds swear by it, with the average age growing from mid forties to now late fifties to eighty. It does lengthen your lashes beautifully and is superior for an enhanced lash that looks great for minimum to maximum makeup aficionados. I've been so afraid it might be discontinued since cosmetic companies frequently replace products, that I'm never without at least 4 or 5 in my makeup stash, just in case. Superior product, superior wear, superior look!s

I've been using this mascara consistently for almost 10yrs. My biggest fear is it getting discontinued. I ALWAYS get compliments on my lashes. My only issue, and this is just something I've noticed in the last year or two. They seem to be half empty and dried out. Going on all clumpy and crumbly. Or they're good but only last a couple weeks before it starts clumping. It NEVER did that before. I buy them two at a time now because of this. And it doesn't matter where I buy them either. It's SUPER depressing!!

I will never purchase again. I also hate the little black “tubes” that scatter on my face when I remove my makeup.

I purchased this and step 1white tube does not have a squeegee part to get the excess portion of the brush. Is this normal? If so, it's messy and goopy.

Do you let the basecoat dry before adding the topcoat? Should you add the topcoat as soon as possible- ie one eye at a time, or do you let it set for ~30 seconds allowing both eyes to be primed then add the topcoat? Thanks,
