face makeup 9 Editors Put The True Match Nude Hyaluronic Tinted Serum To The Test

Different skin tones, different skin types—different benefits.

Glowing skin is always in, and tinted serums are perfect for embracing skinimalism and getting your glow on. If you’re not familiar with the skinimalism trend—it’s all about embracing your skin texture and letting it shine by opting for sheer, minimalist makeup products. So, when the L’Oréal Paris True Match Nude Hyaluronic Tinted Serum launched, nine of our editors with different makeup preferences, as well as various skin types and skin tones decided to put it to the test and see how it fared on post-acne hyperpigmentation, breakouts, redness, oily skin and more.

7-8, Tan-Deep

I’m already a huge fan of the L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensives 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum so I was very excited about this new tinted serum. I was over the craze for skin tints after I just couldn’t find any that I loved. But the True Match Hyaluronic Tinted Serum had me at the first layer. Even though I have lots of hyperpigmentation I’m a skinimalist, so I don’t feel like I need to cover it completely, but I don't want it to be the most prominent thing on my face. Just two layers of the serum gives me exactly the coverage that I like and I get to apply it like any other serum. It just becomes one with my skin and I forget that it’s even there—until I pass a mirror and see how bright my skin looks!

Light 2-3

While I love the look of a dewy complexion, I have oily skin, so I was a bit nervous about how  this tinted serum would work for me during the hot summer in New York. I noticed immediately upon applying it that the formula is incredibly lightweight and luminous without being greasy. It blended out with almost no effort at all, creating an even, natural-looking veil of coverage. To my surprise, it lasted beautifully throughout the day with minimal oil peaking through. I can see this becoming a staple for me on my minimal makeup days.

0.5-2 Very Light

I think I found my new favorite complexion product! This tinted serum is so lightweight and fluid in texture, it’s perfect for hot summer days when I want to even out my skin without wearing a lot of makeup. I love that it tones down redness without covering my freckles, and I live for the dewy finish it leaves behind. But my favorite thing about this serum has to be how easily it blends into my skin with my fingers, no brush or sponge needed. Talk about easy, minimalist makeup.

Light 2-3

I have lots of post-acne hyperpigmentation marks, so I usually stay away from tinted moisturizers and serums and gravitate towards more full-coverage formulas. But when temperatures began to rise in New York where I live, my go-to foundation started feeling cakey and I knew I had to make a change. I decided to give the L’Oreal Paris True Match Nude Hyaluronic Tinted Serum a try, and spoiler alert: I’ve been converted. The tinted serum gives me the coverage I need without clogging my pores or feeling super heavy on my skin. I’ll be recommending it to everyone!

2-3 Light

I have combination-to-oily skin, so any product with the word “serum” in it scares me just a little—I usually associate serums with being oily. But this formula is extremely lightweight and blurs right into the skin. I probably could have gone down a shade since I haven’t been getting much sun this summer, but still found that it blended right into my face and neckline without any harsh lines. I applied it with my fingers, starting in the center of my face and worked the product into my temples with a fluffy face brush. I love how it brightens my complexion and appears dewy and fresh throughout the day. This is definitely going to be an everyday staple for me!

8-10 Deep

As a first time tinted serum user, I must say, this product has me convinced! In past summers I depended on using a foundation to help cover my hyperpigmentation and acne scars. Recently I have been interested in finding a better summer option. I wanted a product that felt less heavy. The True Match Nude Hyaluronic Tinted Serum provides a beautiful natural, dewy look to my face that I very much prefer over foundation. And I appreciate the presence of hyaluronic acid: skin care + makeup in one product? Count me in!

0.5-2 Very Light

I never wear any face makeup aside from concealer, so I was a bit nervous to see how my skin would react to wearing this tinted serum all day — especially in the summer heat. For the first use I put just a dab on my chin, cheeks, nose and forehead. Instantly I was surprised at how weightless it felt. The lightweight coverage evened out my red patches without covering my freckles which is super important to me. But the best part about this tinted serum was that my skin felt hydrated and looked dewy — not sweaty — the entire day.

Becca, Associate Creative Producer

3-4 Light Medium

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this tinted serum as I usually like a decent amount of coverage, but I was impressed by how well this serum worked! You don’t need that much product in order to get enough coverage to where blemishes and discolorations are concealed. I love this option for hot summer days where I don’t want to put anything too thick on my face. I love that since you only really need a few drops, the bottle will last me a long time. I’m excited to use it all summer!

Hannah, Senior Designer

0.5-2 Very Light

For the past year, I’ve been exclusively using tinted serums or moisturizers, so I was super excited to try this new product! I love how lightweight and creamy this serum feels when applying it with my beauty blender and how hydrated my skin looked and felt for the rest of the day. I was a little worried about how it would hold up on one of those really hot NYC days, so I tested it out when it was 90 degrees one afternoon and was pleasantly surprised with how well it looked after a few hours in the heat. The added benefit of the hyaluronic acid is really just the cherry on top!
