How to Create a Black and White Smoky Eye

February 12, 2018

When it comes to eye makeup, you can’t go wrong with a smoky eye. This classic makeup look is the perfect way to amp up the drama for a night out. While you may have a set of eye shadows that you always use to create a smoky eye, sometimes it’s fun to switch things up a little bit. That’s why we’re sharing a step-by-step tutorial for creating a fun twist on the smoky eye. Follow our guide to a black and white smoky eye below.

How to Create a Black and White Smoky Eye

Put down your basic brown eye shadows and create a makeup look that has major contrast. Here’s how to create a black and white smoky eye.

Step 1: Perfect the appearance of your skin. Before getting started on your black and white smoky eye, focus on your face makeup. Smooth your skin with the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Glow Lock Makeup Primer, then apply the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Glow Foundation. Conceal any imperfections with the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Glow Concealer.

Step 2: Set your under-eye area. Applying a face powder underneath your eyes can help prevent your face makeup from caking later on in the day. So, use a fluffy makeup brush to dust on the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Sweep & Lock Loose Setting Face Powder.

Step 3: Add bronzer. Create a sun-kissed glow by applying the L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Lumi Bronze It Bronzer on your cheekbones, forehead, and chin.

Step 4: Fill in your brows. A black and white smoky eye is seriously glamorous, so make sure your brows are on point. Fill in your brows with the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Shape & Fill Mechanical Pencil.

Step 5: Prime your eyes. An eye shadow primer can help create an even canvas for the rest of your eye makeup application. Dab one on across your lids.

Step 6: Apply matte brown eye shadow as a base. Sweep a neutral matte brown shade, like the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Café Au Lait, onto your lids.

Step 7: Add black eye shadow to your outer corners. Now comes the fun part! Pick up a black eye shadow, like the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Noir Cest Noir, and apply it to the outer corners of your eyes. Build until you’ve reached your desired level of color.

Step 8: Paint the inner corners of your eyes with white eye shadow. Fill the inner corners of your eyes with a shimmery white eye shadow, like the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Petite Perle.

Step 9: Tightline your eyes. Applying eyeliner to your upper and lower waterlines can take your black and white smoky eye to another level. Do so with the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Waterproof Pencil Eyeliner in Black.

Step 10: Highlight your brow bone. Define your brow bone by applying the highlighter end of the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Brow Raiser Highlighter Duo right underneath your brows.

Step 11: Coat your lashes with mascara. Your black and white smoky eye wouldn’t be complete without a coat of mascara. Use the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous X Fiber Mascara for length and volume.

Step 12: Finish with a nude lip. Since your black and white smoky eye stands out so much, keep your lips on the neutral side. Pair your smoky eye with a nude lip in a matte finish. Try the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints/Lips Matte in Skinny Dip.

Once you’re ready to remove your black and white smoky eye at the end of the day, reach for a waterproof makeup remover, like the L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser Waterproof – All Skin Types. Saturate a cotton pad with the micellar water, then wipe the pad across your face. Hold it over closed eyes for a few seconds to remove eye makeup.
