How the EverPure Sulfate Free Tinted Dry Shampoo Works On Oily Hair

Dry shampoo is a staple in my hair care routine — especially as the humid weather approaches and I wash my hair less frequently in order to preserve my annual keratin treatment. My hair is so oily that it typically requires daily washing — and yes, I’ve tried oil training which was nothing but a frustrating failed experiment. 

Because of this, I rely heavily on dry shampoo to tide me over on days when I need to look presentable but my strands are limp, weighed down and coated in grease. Aside from finding a dry shampoo formula that actually soaks up the oil, finding one that doesn’t create a severe white cast on my brunette hair has been challenging. I found a great one in the L’Oréal Paris Elvive Dream Lengths Air Volume Dry Shampoo, but I was curious about trying out an option that promises to match the color of my hair. 

So, it was only right that I put the L’Oréal Paris EverPure Sulfate Free Tinted Dry Shampoo for Brown Hair to the test on my second-day hair. I wanted to see if the color would blend into my hair with no cast, and whether or not it could help me go longer in between washes. Below, I’m sharing my experience and whether or not I recommend it for those with oily, brunette hair. 

How to Use the EverPure Sulfate Free Tinted Dry Shampoo

A day after washing my hair — which means it was already greasy — it was time to apply the dry shampoo. I’ve found that sectioning off my hair into a top and bottom section is effective in helping me ensure that I evenly distribute the product at my scalp. 

I held the can about six inches away from my head and sprayed my scalp evenly. I made sure to apply a bit of extra product at my hairline as that’s where I typically get the most oily. I then let the dry shampoo sit in my hair for 30 seconds, per the directions on the packaging, before massaging it in with my fingertips. When I worked it in with my fingers, I noticed that it didn’t feel heavy or gritty — it just seemed to blend into my scalp with minimal afterfeel on my strands.

Does The Color Blend?

Admittedly, I was a bit nervous about how the tint would mesh with my hair color and if it would transfer. When I first sprayed the dry shampoo into my hair, I was able to detect just a bit of color which appeared to be one to two shades lighter than my medium brown hair. However, once I massaged it in, there was absolutely no white cast nor could I see any discoloration from the brown tint on my roots. 

The nice thing about the color is that it appears to be flexible — I think those with various shades of light to medium, medium and dark brunette hair will be able to use this shade without noticing a cast. It’s also worth noting that the formula is safe on color-treated hair, so you don’t have to worry about it permanently altering your color. 

If you have very light brunette or blonde hair, the L’Oréal Paris EverPure Sulfate Free Tinted Dry Shampoo for Blonde Hair will be best for you. 

The Results

Once I massaged the product into my hair, I went about my day and checked in a few hours later. Three hours in, I noticed that my hair looked pretty much the same as when I applied it aside from a bit of excess oil peaking through at my hairline.

A total of six hours later I did my last check-in before showering and properly shampooing. My hair felt slightly heavier than it did when I first applied the dry shampoo, which is very typical for me as oil builds up throughout the day and contributes to heaviness. 

However, I was really impressed with how my hair looked — especially when I put it in a ponytail. When I put my hair up, the dry shampoo helped to make it look smooth and less oily. With my hair down, more oil was showing but much less than if I had skipped the dry shampoo altogether. The last thing that really impressed me was that the brown tint blended into my strands seamlessly with no visible residue and didn’t transfer onto my clothing or chair throughout the day.
