The Best Makeup Routine to Show Off an Ultra-Dark Lip Color This Summer
When you’re rocking an ultra-dark lip color, the trick is to keep your face makeup simple. That doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with all your favorite dark lip colors, just be sure to really blend everything out so that it looks totally natural and not caked on.
Step 1: Prime Your Complexion
You want your makeup to last all day, right? Then the first step of your routine absolutely must be primer. Depending on the finish you’re aiming to achieve, you can use the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow Lock Makeup Primer or L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Lock Makeup Primer. Simply blend a dime-sized amount of your primer of choice onto skin, then move on to the next step.
Step 2: Apply Foundation
Next up, a little natural-looking coverage. To get the look, use the foundation that corresponds with the primer you chose—the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation or L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation. Instead of using a face makeup brush to apply your foundation, reach for a makeup blender, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Blend Artist Foundation Blender, for a more airbrushed appeal.
Step 3: Conceal Any Discolorations
Let’s be real, even when you apply foundation, there are still blemishes, dark circles, and other discolorations that can sneak through. Whatever you’re experiencing, a few dabs of the L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Super-Blendable Multi-Use Concealer will do the trick. Simply dab it on and use a L’Oréal Paris Infallible Blend Artist Concealer Blender to blend it all in.
Step 4: Contour
Now, remember, the key is to look as natural as possible. To get the chiseled look you’re aiming for without looking like you have a ton of makeup on your face, swipe one of the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Longwear Foundation Shaping Sticks (choose one that’s a couple shades darker than your natural skin tone) onto the hollows of your cheeks, along the edge of your forehead and jaw, as well as down the bridge of your nose and just under your lower lip. Use a L’Oréal Paris Infallible Blend Artist Contour Blender to blend it all out and notice just how angular your face appears. Oh, so angular!
Step 5: Highlight
One thing that can never be too over the top is highlighter. Since you really want it to stand out, open the top of one of the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Crushed Foils Metallic Highlighters and use a fluffy angular highlighting brush to dust some of the light-reflecting powder onto your cheekbones, above your cupid’s bow, and on the tip of your nose. If you want more saturation, try pressing the highlighter into your skin instead of dusting it.
Step 6: Set Your Look
After putting in all this work, of course you want it to last. Instead of relying on constant touch-ups, finish your face makeup routine with an allover dusting of the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Sweep & Lock Loose Setting Powder and you won’t have to make repeated mirror checks.
Step 7: Accentuate Your Lashes and Lash Lines
Now, remember your lips are the coal point here. So instead of coating your lids in colorful eye shadow, keep it simple with a thin line of the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Liquid Eyeliner along your upper lash lines, followed by a swipe of the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara Primer/Base on your lashes and a coat of the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise in Mystic Black. So simple!
