Choosing your Superior Preference shade is simple with the on-pack shade guide. There is a shade guide included on the side of each pack to show the color results depending on your starting hair color. Color result may vary depending on your starting hair color and condition.

Choosing between two shades: If you are in between two Superior Preference shades, we recommend choosing the lightest one.
Choosing a shade for gray coverage: For the most natural gray coverage, choose a Superior Preference shade that is closest to your natural hair color or go one shade lighter.

If you want to see what your new hair color might look like, select the shade you want, and then select “Live Try On” to virtually try on your new shade.

HOW TO FIND YOUR SHADE

Instructions vary by shade. For complete instructions, refer to package insert located inside hair color box.

How to use L'Oreal Paris Superior Preference for the first time:

Apply All Over. Apply permanent hair color mixture to dry, unwashed hair. Apply color at your root area and through ends until completely saturated.
Leave on for 25 minutes.
Rinse-out until water runs clear.
Condition. Apply enough Color & Shine Conditioner to thoroughly saturate hair and leave on for 2-3 minutes. Rinse.

How to touch up roots with Superior Preference:

Touch up root area first. Make ¼” partings through dry, unwashed hair with applicator tip. Apply hair color mixture onto new growth root area only until completely saturated. Leave color on new growth root area for 20 minutes. TIP: For resistant grays, leave on for an additional 5 minutes.
Apply to rest of hair. Apply remaining product to rest of hair to refresh color. Let develop for 5 minutes. Total application time is 25 minutes.
Rinse-out until water runs clear.
Condition. Apply enough Color & Shine Conditioner to thoroughly saturate hair and leave on for 2-3 minutes. Rinse.

Finally True Ash

I have tried every shade of L’Oréal from 6.5A to 9.5A… whether I was trying to match my own color, or go lighter or whatever… my hair always pulled too much warmth (orange copper brassy). Finally these new Ultra Ash colors really do what they say. UA8 Medium Ash Blonde matches my naturally dark blonde hair and completely covered my gray. I’ve read some people say this shade is “too dark”. For me, it’s great. And I’m sure it lightens with washings, but you could also add a few highlights for a blonder effect. Although it’s called “Medium Blonde”, just know that the result will be a “dark blonde”, and a gorgeous shade of dark blonde! Most important thing is the Ash is truly Ash. I love it. I will absolutely be continuing with this shade! It’s gorgeous!

I used the extra light Ash blond..my roots are orange. They were brown with ends blonde. Now have orange and blonde. I need to recolor fast how soon can I do it..help. I've been coloring my hair for 50 years never had this happen before

Disappointed Lately...

I have use the same Dark Blonde for many years, covered greys and after 1 wash was close to desired color, The last few times it doesn't cover my greys. After 1 wash my greys start appearing and I have also noticed a fizziness I never had before. I am stumped as this was the only store bought color I ever liked! What happened???

Waste of time and money

Before. After Just did my hair with L’Oreal Superior Preference 8S and the color came out horrible - way too dark with pinkish tones. I’ve never had hair this dark in my 78 years. I was trying for an all over pale gray like the before picture. What am I to do? I tried to upload before and after pictures, but messages wouldn’t allow.

She lifted my root area, coloredmy grays, and gave me the HITCHCOCK BLONDE I desired! This is AMAZINGLY FANTASTIC color! The only problem has been to find her in stock. Be careful of the purple conditioner!

I couldn’t get the tube of conditioner open, and it made a big mess. Next time I will wash and condition my hair in the laundry tub. Also, it stained my shower.

Darker than expected

Pretty color but much darker than on the box. Wish there was a light ash blonde though. The ultra light is too light for winter if that one matches the color on the box

This is the worst hair color I have tried. While it covered my grey roots, my roots now feel very oily. In the past week I have shampoo'd my hair 4 times and still feels oily. The conditioner that is provided made my hair very brittle and breakable. I will go back to my Schwarzkopf Keratin

Wrong color in the bottle!!

I've used Superior Preference 7 1/2 A Medium Ash Blonde for over 20 years. When I mixed the color today, it was red, not the usual ashy blonde I've used a million times. Something was definitely mixed up in the bottling. Not even close. Needless to say I couldn't use it, I don't want red!

Not a good product

Medium blonde ashy hair is my natural color. Wanted to go lighter. Left this product on for 25 minutes as suggested in box - no change to my Hair color. I have used Loreal Preference for about 60 years. I am mixing 8G and 9GR. A lot goes to waste as I have very short hair. Can I purchase the Developer Creme separately? It would help my limited budget as I mix half 8G and quarter 9GR. GREAT PRODUCT!!

You can mix equal parts of developer and tint, saving the unmixed product to save for next time. Make sure you seal the products right away after mixing. My natural color is dark blonde. I've used 01 Extra Light Natural Ash Blonde a few years, but don't get the light pale blonde color like on the box. Can I use 10UA Ultra Ash Very Light? It says not recommended for previously colored blonde hair. Hmm?

Our products have been tested to have at least a 3-year shelf life if unopened and stored at normal room temperature, during which they will retain their integrity and perform as expected. If your product looks and smells the way it normally does, it is good to use. Certain products, for example sunscreens, may have an expiration date printed on the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Annie San Diego from Finally True Ash I have tried every shade of L’Oréal from 6.5A to 9.5A… whether I was trying to match my own color, or go lighter or whatever… my hair always pulled too much warmth (orange copper brassy). Finally these new Ultra Ash colors really do what they say. UA8 Medium Ash Blonde matches my naturally dark blonde hair and completely covered my gray. I’ve read some people say this shade is “too dark”. For me, it’s great. And I’m sure it lightens with washings, but you could also add a few highlights for a blonder effect. Although it’s called “Medium Blonde”, just know that the result will be a “dark blonde”, and a gorgeous shade of dark blonde! Most important thing is the Ash is truly Ash. I love it. I will absolutely be continuing with this shade! It’s gorgeous!
