How to Use L’Oréal Paris Superior Preference for First-Time Application

Step 1: Apply All Over.
Start with dry, unwashed hair. Apply the prepared permanent hair color mixture at your roots and work it through to the ends of your hair, ensuring all strands are completely saturated.
Step 2: Develop.
Let the color mixture develop on your hair for 25 minutes.
Step 3: Rinse.
Rinse your hair thoroughly with warm water until the water runs clear.
Step 4: Condition.
Apply the included Color & Shine Conditioner generously to fully saturate your hair. Leave it on for 2–3 minutes to lock in color, hydrate hair, and add shine. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.

How to Touch Up Roots with Superior Preference

Step 1: Touch Up Root Area.
Using the applicator tip, create ¼” partings through dry, unwashed hair. Apply the permanent hair color mixture to the new growth at the roots, ensuring that all new growth is completely saturated. Leave the color on the root area for 20 minutes.

Pro Tip:For resistant gray hairs, leave the mixture on your roots for an additional 5 minutes.

Step 2: Refresh the Rest of Your Hair.
Apply the remaining hair color mixture to the lengths and ends of your hair to refresh previously colored strands. Let it develop for 5 minutes. The total application time is 25 minutes.

Step 3: Rinse.
Rinse your hair thoroughly with warm water until the water runs completely clear.

Step 4: Condition.
Apply the included Color & Shine Conditioner generously to your hair, ensuring it’s evenly distributed. Leave it on for 2–3 minutes to hydrate and lock in vibrancy. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.

I have tried every shade of L’Oréal from 6.5A to 9.5A… whether I was trying to match my own color, or go lighter or whatever… my hair always pulled too much warmth (orange copper brassy). Finally these new Ultra Ash colors really do what they say. UA8 Medium Ash Blonde matches my naturally dark blonde hair and completely covered my gray. I’ve read some people say this shade is “too dark”. For me, it’s great. And I’m sure it lightens with washings, but you could also add a few highlights for a blonder effect. Although it’s called “Medium Blonde”, just know that the result will be a “dark blonde”, and a gorgeous shade of dark blonde! Most important thing is the Ash is truly Ash. I love it. I will absolutely be continuing with this shade! It’s gorgeous!

I used the extra light Ash blond..my roots are orange. They were brown with ends blonde. Now have orange and blonde. I need to recolor fast how soon can I do it..help. I've been coloring my hair for 50 years never had this happen before

L’Oréal perfected the art of doing nothing

⭐☆☆☆☆ I don’t usually leave one-star reviews, but this product earned every bit of it. L’Oréal Préférence 8UA managed to accomplish the impossible: absolutely nothing. My black roots are still black. My grey hairs are still grey. It’s almost impressive how completely ineffective it was. The only visible result was that my hair felt dry and damaged afterward. And let’s talk about the “purple” conditioner. Purple where? It had so little pigment that it might as well have been regular white conditioner. It didn’t tone anything—not even a hint. So, to summarize: no color change, no grey coverage, no toning, just dry hair. If you’re looking for a hair dye, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for an expensive way to make your hair feel like hay, congratulations—you’ve found the perfect product.

Disappointed Lately...

I have use the same Dark Blonde for many years, covered greys and after 1 wash was close to desired color, The last few times it doesn't cover my greys. After 1 wash my greys start appearing and I have also noticed a fizziness I never had before. I am stumped as this was the only store bought color I ever liked! What happened???

Waste of time and money

Before. After Just did my hair with L’Oreal Superior Preference 8S and the color came out horrible - way too dark with pinkish tones. I’ve never had hair this dark in my 78 years. I was trying for an all over pale gray like the before picture. What am I to do? I tried to upload before and after pictures, but messages wouldn’t allow.

She lifted my root area, coloredmy grays, and gave me the HITCHCOCK BLONDE I desired! This is AMAZINGLY FANTASTIC color! The only problem has been to find her in stock. I have used Loreal Preference for about 60 years. I am mixing 8G and 9GR. A lot goes to waste as I have very short hair. Can I purchase the Developer Creme separately? It would help my limited budget as I mix half 8G and quarter 9GR. GREAT PRODUCT!!

My natural color is dark blonde. I've used 01 Extra Light Natural Ash Blonde a few years, but don't get the light pale blonde color like on the box. Can I use 10UA Ultra Ash Very Light? It says not recommended for previously colored blonde hair. Hmm?

When I mixed the color today, it was red, not the usual ashy blonde I've used a million times. Something was definitely mixed up in the bottling. Not even close. Needless to say I couldn't use it, I don't want red!

Left this product on for 25 minutes as suggested in box - no change to my Hair color. Left it another 10 to be safe - still absolutely no difference. Rinsed it and am just so disappointed that I spent money on something that produced no change.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Annie San Diego from Finally True Ash I have tried every shade of L’Oréal from 6.5A to 9.5A… whether I was trying to match my own color, or go lighter or whatever… my hair always pulled too much warmth (orange copper brassy). Finally these new Ultra Ash colors really do what they say. UA8 Medium Ash Blonde matches my naturally dark blonde hair and completely covered my gray. I’ve read some people say this shade is “too dark”. For me, it’s great. And I’m sure it lightens with washings, but you could also add a few highlights for a blonder effect. Although it’s called “Medium Blonde”, just know that the result will be a “dark blonde”, and a gorgeous shade of dark blonde! Most important thing is the Ash is truly Ash. I love it. I will absolutely be continuing with this shade! It’s gorgeous!
