Kate Winslet Is Unveiled As The New L’Oréal Paris Global Ambassador

Kate Winslet may be known mostly as an Academy Award-winning actress, but the UK-born powerhouse has many roles off the big (and small) screen. As co-founder of The Golden Hat Foundation, she’s helping change the way people on the autism spectrum are perceived. In 2019 she lent her voice to the Ovarian Cancer Action’s powerful “I Will Survive” campaign to raise awareness and funding for ovarian cancer research. And in 2020 she joined UN Women for its “Shadow Pandemic” campaign to bring awareness to the global increase in domestic violence during the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s only a handful of her initiatives and it’s already quite the roster. And if Winslet wasn’t already inspiring women daily, the Mare of Easttown star can now add global ambassador for L’Oréal Paris to her resume, as she continues to champion for women and girls and remind them every day that they’re worth it.

“Kate Winslet is a true icon—in film and as a strong woman—an empowering voice in our mission at L’Oréal Paris: believe in yourself so the next generation doesn’t doubt it for a moment,” says Delphine Viguier-Hovasse, Global Brand President L’Oréal Paris. “With her talent for elevating women’s stories and supporting those without a voice, Kate Winslet shares our reason for being at L’Oréal Paris—to encourage women to know their worth, celebrate their beauty and dare to be themselves.”

Winslet joins a diverse roster of A-listers such as Viola Davis, Eva Longoria, Hellen Mirren, Camila Cabello, Katherine Langford, Aja Noami King, and Gemma Chan, who also embody the spirit of the brand’s objectives to uplift and honor women. At just 21 years old she cemented her spot as Hollywood royalty with her performance as Rose in the iconic film Titanic back in 1997. From there she went on to win dozens of awards (yes, including an Oscar!) for her portrayal of complex and relatable characters. But, the mom of three admits that it wasn’t always as easy as she makes it look.

“It’s taken work to get to a place where I make no apology for who I am, where I accept my flaws,” Winslet explained in a recent interview. “I’m delighted to join the L’Oréal Paris sisterhood to say: it takes courage and strength to believe that you are worth it. Sometimes, you may not feel worth it at all. We all have moments like that, and that is what makes us all human. But, the more you say these words and believe in everything that you truly are, and however you identify, then with time and belief in yourself, you too will feel worth it.”

While she was flattered to be tapped as a spokesperson for the global brand, it was L’Oréal Paris’ embrace of women as they age, according to the 45-year-old actress, that really excited her. As someone who understands the emotional impact that beauty can have on someone, which we saw notably evidenced in the last year and a half, the iconic tagline “Because You’re Worth It” rings especially true.

“Being worth it means being part of something that is shared,” she said. “A shared mantra that is an immediate message in moments of self-doubt—which, let’s face it we all have! For me it means that I have lived through things that have made me who I am today. That’s something we can all relate to—that feeling your ‘worth’ might be hard-won, but is deserved.”

As for her hope in impacting younger generations of women today in this new role and beyond, it’s about the small things that can make a big difference.

“Be kind to one another, listen to each other,” she finished. “Look out for each other and try not to be judgmental, you never know what that person might be going through.”

It looks like Winslet might be a natural in this new role.
