WOW! Obsessed! Salon Quality Gray Coverage

As a dark brunette who has been needing to cover her grays since 16 years old, I could not wait to try this! Going to the salon every 3 weeks can be tiresome and needless to say, expensive! So I jumped on the at home hair color train years and years ago. I buy pro color and developer on Amazon, measure everything, mix it up and then spend close to 2 hours from start to finish applying, processing and rinsing.. Doing this every 3 weeks has also been tiresome and most times, I don't have the time!! So when Colorsonic was introduced I knew I had to try it. From the moment I started application to the time I fully rinsed, it was only 35 minutes!!! The device was super simple to prime and get started. Then, all you do is literally brush your roots... Transparently was a tiny bit skeptical about the saturation of color and if it truly saturated my roots like I do when I paint my roots... But I was proven wrong, my roots were saturated!! It looked like I painted my roots myself. After application, the device showed I still had a 3/4 full cartridge! I could go on and on about this device, the process and how simple and efficient it has made my at home hair color. I am truly blown away and so thankful to have found something that makes my busy life that much more simple! Gone are the days that you will see any grays in my hair line and that makes me, a super self conscious about my grays at the age of 36, so happy!!! This is a must buy, must try device and coloring system. Cannot recommend enough!!

Cartridge is not multi-use?

Is there ANYONE out there that has re-used a cartridge? I have used 3 cartridges now for root touch-up. When I insert the (used) cartridge, the device tells me that the cartridge is more than half full. But when I start it, only the white developer comes out, no color. Same thing happened 3 times with 3 different cartridges, However, if I use a NEW, UNUSED cartridge, it works like it should. Not sure if the level indicator lights don‘t work as described, or the color dries up once seal is opened. Anyone else having this issue? Also I have spent a long time on the phone with customer service. I got variable answers that did not help.

Don't buy

The color never mixed so I only had developer on my hair. It ran out before my head was covered i guess because only half was being used. I cut it open and all the liquid color ran into the sink. I used the gloves and salvaged as much as I could. Not a great experience!

Great innovative product

Such a cool product! Easy to use. Got my roots very easily without making a huge mess. I’m not sure I’d use this every time as it is a bit of a process but overall a great product!

This product was good. Took a minute to learn to use it but once I did it went smooth. I love the it gives you multiple piece to choose what way you'd like to do your hair. I also enjoyed that it came with a cartridge for easy cleanup.

This seems like it would be better for touch ups than overall hair coloring. If working with a full head of hair it would apply unevenly. I’d only use it to touch up grow out at the roots or if you have greys. It’s also pretty much just box dye, so beware of messing up your salon color.

I am unable to use it because it came damaged. It’s not working I tried everything to fix it but couldn’t make it work. I saw the tutorial follow manual but when the machine itself is broken nothing can work. So disappointed

Not a complete fan of this! It is not a good value for the cost! Waste a lot of product and the machine and color itself are expensive and it doesn’t thoroughly get your roots. Very tine consuming’

After a bit of trial and error, I was able to use the Colorsonic Hair Color Device. I have thin, fine hair but I found that occasionally the device would snag on my hair. I cannot imagine using it on hair with any sort of texture or body. It smelled like sulfur with the ammonia smell of hair dye. It did cover my grays but as you can see, it didn’t cover all of it and I dyed it twice. It was easy to clean. For the price of the machine and the cost of the dye, I wouldn’t recommend this. It was okay, but I felt it was best for a last minute root touchup and honestly for just that it’s not worth it. I didn’t feel like it was a good all over dye job, which is what I was looking for. It did cut down on time when dying hair, but it wasn’t worth it. I also found it extremely messy compared to regular box dye.

When I turn on colorsonic the battery light is green and fully charges. Once I put the cartridge in the battery light goes off and the machine does not work

Why won’t my partially used cartridge work? The device is charged, cleaned, turns on, shows battery and then the white lights just endlessly light up - up and down - until it turns off.

It was a little daunting at first but once I got started it was pretty simple. The color turned out great and my hair smells great and feels really healthy! I don’t think there was a lot of damage. It was pretty easy to hold and reach the back of my head and I liked that there was a setting to clean it. I just don’t really feel like I could see myself spending $100+ on this. I’ve never really felt like it was difficult to get hair dye on my hair and I always just go from dark brown hair to darker brown hair so I’ve never had to worry about my application being super even or perfect. I think maybe when people are doing a more dramatic color change this would help to make sure the color turns out evenly all over the head. Overall the device worked well and did what it was supposed to do and was easy to use.

It comes with clear instructions on how to use it and clean up is super easy. I love that there wasn’t hair dye all over the place, it was pretty much mess free for me. You also have control of the application button and how much product is coming out. There was enough product to cover from my roots to mid hair about 3 times until it was empty. I will say the only thing is I have a lot of grays and I may need a darker shade. The only area that didn’t really pick up color was the sides by my temple. Overall love this product and will continue to use it! Can’t wait to try other shades!

Her roots were getting dark while her ends stayed light. The instructions were clear and simple to understand. The device is easy to assemble and use. She used it the night before a party. It evened out her hair color. She was pleased with the results. However, she'd prefer to go lighter when using this in the future. It was two in the morning when she tested it. It's surprisingly quiet when in operation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MissiM from High-tech hair color that almost makes salon visit I tried the L’Oréal ColorSonic system with the 6 Light Natural Brown cartridge, and overall it’s a pretty impressive piece of beauty tech. The device mixes and dispenses the color automatically while the bristles help part and coat the hair evenly. The process feels surprisingly simple—almost like brushing your hair—so it takes a lot of the guesswork out of at-home coloring. The shade turned out natural-looking with solid gray coverage, and the formula felt gentle compared to traditional box dyes. I also liked that each cartridge can provide multiple uses for touch-ups. That said, it’s not completely foolproof. If you have very thick hair, you still need to work slowly to make sure every section gets covered evenly. The device is also a bit bulky to maneuver around the back of the head until you get used to it. Overall, this is a clever innovation that makes DIY hair color easier and less messy—just not quite perfect yet. 4 stars.

Not only does its make dying your hair yourself easier, the product itself comes with everything you need. It's got the cleansing cartridge (USB charging cable) lengths adjuster for the head of the product but it even came with disposable gloves. I saw no irritation to my skin, and the smell was not overwhelming at all. The storage for this is great. Just put the product back in the ox it came with, slide the box top over and there ya go, simply store that way. Everything is in its place and no worry of things getting lost. I used the color dark blonde natural 7. Only complaint, is if I had it to do over I would have went a lighter color but otherwise. Amazing and innovative product

I used a blonde shade to slowly soften the red color . The device made the process really easy and much less messy than traditional hair dye. The brush helps distribute the color evenly through the hair . My hair looks softer in color now and the red tone is less intense, which is exactly what i wanted . Overall, it’s a very convenient way to color your hair at home .

Rated 3 out of 5 by SabrinaB from Colorsonic delivers beautiful color but takes some I received this Loreal hair coloring device from Influenster in exchange for my review and it was a totally new thing for me as I typically use box dye or go to a salon. The product itself seemed easy enough to use, but once you open it and get into it, it's slightly more complicated than I thought it would be. The priming and starting of the product was difficult. I wasted the entire first cartridge as I thought I followed the directions correctly but instead of color coming out, it was mostly developer. Then it sort of just started acting finicky so I stopped and took the cartridge out and replaced with a new one and it was much better, so I'd make sure you have more than enough before beginning. As I started applying, the ease of distributing it thoroughly was a plus. You just comb it through the hair, but it takes a knack to start and stop the product coming out of the machine between strokes. I did make a bit of a mess at first but got better as I went through my hair. I like the different attachments for roots and ends, as I have longer and thicker hair. The color came out a beautiful and rich dark brown with no spotting or patches, and my hair felt and soft, not overly damaged as some coloring products can be. The instructions could have been more thorough on the starting and priming of the tool and I did find it obnoxious to have to keep pressing the button to distribute and letting go to stop just at the right time. The tool itself isn't overly noisy, but not quiet either. For the price point, it is relatively expensive but if you practice with it I think it could be a great alternative to going to the salon.

It literally does almost all the work for you with distributing the dye evenly in my hair. It’s not loud and it puts the dye in my hair evenly at a good speed. The application was spot on and covered all of my grey’s. I didn’t feel any lumps of hair color on my scalp that usually leaves a weird color residue. The package includes the device, charging cable, gloves, and an extension for the color dispenser which I didn’t end up needing to use maybe somebody with way thicker hair than me would need it. I was surprised as to how easy this was to cover my grey hair strands that keeps showing up on the root of my hairline. I only use the product near my scalp to cover the white hair strands and the device helped get all of them. This is going to save me a lot of time and money cause I don’t have to go to the salon. I’m excited to not make a mess while coloring my hair at home. The color from the cartridge is deep and my hair is very shiny since coloring it. The shine and color have lasted 2+ weeks and going strong still.

Rated 2 out of 5 by RosaC from Unnecessary Assembling the product was easy filling the instructions that come with it. You are supposed to then power it to allow the hair color to mix and flow. When I did this it kept flowing and a ton of dye was wasted. Applying it was easy. It is very quiet and does not feel hot to the touch. You simply press the button and guide it down and release. The lengths adapter is also helpful for the length of the hair. The actual hair dye is very runny and can be quite messy if you’re not careful. Cleaning the device was also easy to do with the cleaning cartridge. The actual result was a little underwhelming, it left several areas uncolored even though that area was very saturated in color. I love the idea of this product but I feel it is unnecessary. I would rather stick with the old school fail proof bottles. In my opinion it is not worth it.

I always color my hair at home, buying dye in the store and using a brush and comb. This new device is convenient for coloring the back, front, and behind the easily. However, it's inconvenient for coloring the lengths of my hair, as I squeeze out a lot of dye at once and distribute it with a lot of dye at once a wide-tooth comb. This device only squeezes out a small amount of dye, and it takes a long time to color the lengths. So, I started coloring my hair with the device and colored the front and back, and then I colored the lengths without the device. Overall, I liked coloring my hair with the L'Oreal Paris device, if I had shot hair. I wouldn't need anything else. The device is very easy to wash, so you can use it over and over again. The device changes via USB cable, so there are no wires to interfere with the hair coloring process. It can be used indoors or outdoors.

I LOVE that it appears to be a serious attempt at making at home hair care and dyeing more sustainable and less wasteful. The only single use plastic used in the packaging is the thin plastic cover, the gloves, a few caps on the brush tips, the small pouch the dye is contained in, and the tape used to hold everything in place. The rest of the package is biodegradable cardboard. Even the instructions are printed on a non-coated paper. DIY kits can be incredibly useful and I’m glad that this is not one of those items. I also love that it is effectively self cleaning and since the dye itself is all contained in one little pouch that you just push into the device, it keeps mess down so no random dye spots on your sink and cupboards that take months to maybe fade. Now on to the things I don’t love. There is a definite learning curve here. This is not for the mania-induced 2am hair dye kit. Leave that to Manic Panic and Splat. The instruction booklet + 13x8 instruction page is a bit overwhelming to look at and definitely makes you think twice about actually doing the thing. So, if you’re anything like me, this machine just might sit in a corner for 2-3 months before you remember you wanted to dye your hair in the summer, luckily by then, summer will be just around the corner again. My other dislike is that this was definitely not made with the Type 4 hair girls in mind. This is absolutely for hair no curlier than perhaps 3A. The length adapter somewhat helps but I felt the comb ripping through my hair and that’s the opposite of what I need. Overall a super cool concept but it seems no one with OUR hair had a seat at the table.

Little awkward trying to balance and go through my hair. When I thought I had a grip on it and seemed to be getting somewhere the cartridge was empty halfway through my hair. I changed it and still unable to finish. I cut the cartridges to get out the remaining hair color so I could finish. There was half of the coloring still in them though the machine implied empty. Wasteful?! Save yourself time and money... continue using the bottles or a Salon. I do not recommend this product!

I used Natural Brown #5, and it was a perfect match to my natural color. It took us a whole 20 minutes to color my hair. Instead of the hour or more that it would have taken the standard way (by painting it on). 30 minutes to process (not wrapped in plastic either, mind you!). We rinsed it out with cool water, then I put the entire tube of conditioner on and left for 3 minutes. After a final rinse (warm water this time, to get all the conditioner out) and my final result is GORGEOUS! You can see from my first (before) pic and my last (after) pic that it covered all but the smallest amount of my truly hard to color grays. Look at the difference in my "rogue stripe" - it's nearly GONE! I am so happy! Oh, one more thing. There was NO chemical smell at all. No ammonia. No bleach. And my hair smells phenomenal today, just like the conditioner. I will definitely be buying more cartriges, as this WILL be my go-to from now on when my hair needs dye.

The only downfall i have is not knowing if the dye is actually coming through mixing on your head. The dye is 2pipes and one of mine seems to still be full while the other one was empty. Other than that I would love to try it again.. Its the size of a flat iron so its package right nice. It dont make noise. Its pretty cool.

It was easy to use, easy to clean, and easy to apply. I LOVE the upgrade of manual mixing. Both the developer and color mix are in the color cartridge, which mixes in the device in 20 seconds without the mess! The cartridge itself has about 3 applications in it, and because I did my whole head, I have one application left from the cartridge, which is perfect for future root touch-ups! The color payoff was better than I expected and looked completely natural. The device itself is lightweight and easy to assemble and disassemble! It only takes 30 minutes to fully charge and includes a charging cable! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product! Once you try it, you will NEVER go back to a traditional box color or waste hours in a salon again!

It’s so so so much easier than the old way of coloring hair with gloves and your hands and a bottle. It was so easy to charge, put together and use. It’s like brushing your hair but you’re coloring it. I was so impressed with how easy it was. Sliding the color cartridge in was easy and fast. Getting it mixed was quick with the push of the button. It came with reusable gloves too. The clean up with my favorite because it was so easy and messy free. Just fill up the cartridge with water and it’ll cycle through and rinse!! I really enjoyed trying this and loved the way my color came out. The device is super lightweight too so your hands won’t hurt!

Only the developer was dispensed, and no tint came out. The machine then read the cartridge as empty even though the tint was still inside. I tried two different cartridges and they both didn’t work. I had to break open the cartridge and manually mix the product just to dye the hair. The device did not function as advertised and was very disappointing.

The color itself, I got dark natural blonde I think, turned out rich & vibrant, & my hair felt soft afterwards, with minimal odor compared to the traditional box dyes. My only drawback, & the reason for 4/5 stars, is that the attachment made it a bit tricky to cover my longer hair. If you have longer hair, you might need to be a bit patient or consider better sectioning than I did. But when is longer hair ever easier haha

My first impression of this device is that it’s quite sturdy/well built, it feels like it’s made of a high quality material but not heavy to the point where it tires out your hand. The directions that were given was clear and straightforward so that helped alot for someone who never used this kind of device. But, I had to put in some effort when inserting the color cartridge inside the machine. When I started using it, everything was easy but I noticed that the consistency of the color is very thin and liquid so I would recommend users to be very careful so that it wouldn’t drip down their eyes or go everywhere as it did make a mess in my experience. The color dripped a little bit on my floors and it stained my skin although they can be easily removed as long as you don’t leave it too long. I also find the moving “brush/bristles” kind of irritating as it kept scratching my scalp when I was brushing my hair and made my scalp a little bit pink as it was irritating my skin/scalp, and I was kind of scared that it would tangle my hair when I was using it but it didn’t. Disassembling it is very easy but you do have to clean it by inserting the given cartridge filled with warm water and pressing the button so that it auto cleans itself. I love the fact that you can store the remaining unused color without any hassle or making any mess which works great especially if you like to use it for root touch ups which wouldn’t require the whole cartridge. This has to be the most important Pro about using this device. It’s also very easy to store this device once you’re done using it. Conclusion: In my opinion, This device would be excellent for someone who needs a frequent quick root touch ups as it would be very quick and easy using this device. Especially, the fact that you can store the rest of the color for the next session without worrying that it might dry out. But, I personally wouldn’t be justifying the cost of this device as I would usually just dye my hair as a whole which could be easily achieved just by doing it manually without spending that much money. Based on my experience, I create less mess by doing it manually compared to when I was using this device for my whole hair. The color outcome is beautiful, and my hair doesn’t feel dry at all which is very important for me and everyone who dyes their hair. This device works GREAT ! If you do have an extra budget, do try this device out , but if you don’t then I would recommend skipping out on this as you can achieve very similar results without using it.

I have long but fine hair and used most of the cartridge. The finished color was shiny and it covered my sporadic greys very well. They just disappeared. I really love the the self cleaning feature and the reusable directions pamphlet. The directions were easy to follow and helpful. I was able to find helpful videos on line as well. I wish the box was more conducive to storage and directions maybe printed inside. I wasn’t fully pleased with the amount of gray coverage but that could be me needing to better understand the tool. The color coverage was light and did not cover 100% of my grays around my temples.

I only used it to touch up my roots, so I can’t comment on how it performs on a full head of hair. For my use, it wasn’t very messy at all, and I used less than half of the cartridge. It’s definitely faster and easier than traditional boxed dye, so definitely saves more time. The device itself might be a good idea and the technology behind the applicator seems promising, but the hair color cartridges simply do not work. They do not cover gray hair at all. I tried this twice to make sure it wasn’t user error. • First, I used shade 5G. • Then I gave it a second chance and tried shade 5. The results were exactly the same both times: less than 10% gray coverage — honestly, probably not even 5%. It looks as if I applied nothing at all. I’m attaching photos so you can clearly see the results. My gray hair is still completely visible, unchanged, and uncovered. This product did absolutely nothing. For the price and the hype, this is extremely disappointing. A good machine means nothing if the color itself doesn’t work. I would not recommend this product to anyone, especially if gray coverage is your goal.

I don’t feel like all of my hair got saturated and it took a lot more time that traditional hair dye. It was easy to load and clean, quiet and didn’t pull my hair, but over all I wouldn’t suggest it.

This is a great tool for coloring or retouching your hair at home with salon results. It also makes things more fast and convenient along with less mess and clean up. The device is rechargeable and the hair dies come in cartridges and there are about 20 different colors to choose from. When the device arrives you need to charge it for 2 hours, then you put the cartridge in. You turn the device on and it automatically mixes the color and developer. Then you comb it through your roots, and next you put on the lengths attachment and comb it through the ends. After your hair is saturated you wait 30 minutes then you rinse it out and apply the conditioner. This color left my hair with amazing results with a nice even coloring. And my hair was soft and smooth after using the conditioner. The colors are permanent and free of ammonia, silicones, parabens, SLS, SLES, and phthalates. And if you don't finish your color cartridge it can be taken out and used for your next retouch. The device also comes with a reusable/waterproof instruction mat, reusable gloves, and a cleaning cartridge that can be filled with warm water to clean out your device for the next use. This device is definitely worth the value if you color your hair at home a lot. Definitely a game changer!

I began application on my roots and the machine dispensed a white substance, which I assumed was the dye that would darken as it developed on the hair. I used a whole cartridge on scalp. When I was priming the second cartridge, brown dye came out. The first cartridge must have malfunctioned and only dispensed the developer without the dye in it. I was able to cover most of my hair with the second cartridge, but because my scalp was coated in developer, my scalp did not get as much dye. As far as the machine itself, it is good for dispersing the product throughout the hair on your own. It is necessary to go in with gloved hands and work the product in so all of the hair is saturated. I think this device is very cool!

When I turn on colorsonic the battery light is green and fully charges. Once I put the cartridge in the battery light goes off and the machine does not work
