Baking Soda, otherwise known as sodium bicarbonate, is a naturally occurring chemical substance. When mixed with water, baking soda can be used as a mild exfoliate, helping to strip away dead skin cells found at the surface level, without causing damage.

In addition, baking soda is naturally alkaline; therefore it is a neutralizing agent. The low concentration of hydrogen ions, which neutralizes acids found on the surface layer of the skin, opens up pores and cleanses skin dirt and debris. Lastly, baking soda is publicly known to be used as a skin brightener.1
