Lutein Benefits for Skin:
Antioxidant

Lutein is a naturally occurring carotenoid that is synthesized only by plants. Considerably high amounts can be found within spinach, kale, and yellow carrots. Most importantly, lutein for skin is renowned for providing strong antioxidant properties, which are essential for protecting the skin against harmful free-radicals present throughout the environment. In addition, studies have shown that by effectively reducing the amount of oxidative stress that occurs in the skin, topical application of lutein benefits may inadvertently help to improve moisture retention and provide anti-aging effects. 1 Consequently, this topical innovative antioxidant can often be found in cosmetic and personal care products. For more powerful protection, cosmetic products will often combine the benefits of multiple carotenoids, such as lutein and zeaxanthin, in order to best enhance overall skin quality and appearance. 1
