Epsom Salt Benefits for Skin:

Epsom salt, chemically known as magnesium sulfate (MgSO4), is a pure mineral compound. While in medicine, Epsom salt possesses a number of clinical applications; in skincare, its main purpose is to provide topical exfoliation to achieve smoother, softer skin. This can be achieved by using the salt crystals as an exfoliate to mechanically stimulate and rejuvenate the top layers of the skin’s surface. The common method of use for Epsom salt is to dilute the mineral in warm bath water. Subsequently, the mineral compounds will dissolve to form an ionic solution. After roughly 12-15 minutes of soaking in the bath, skin can begin to absorb the soothing benefits of Epsom salt, which can help alleviate uncomfortable skin, as well as promote relaxation. Certain studies have shown the high salt concentrations provided by magnesium may play a role in upregulating skin proliferation and differentiation, which could elevate the skin’s overall quality and appearance. 1
