Emu Oil

[ˈĒ-myü, ˈOil]

Emu Oil Benefits:

The emu, scientifically known as Dromaius novaehollandiae, is the world’s second largest living bird. The native Australian bird provides oil containing high levels of various fatty acids, including linolenic, linoleic, palmitic, and myristic. Emu oil gained attention from the skin care industry due to its effective moisturizing capabilities. Furthermore, emu oil contains high fatty acid concentrations which enable good skin permeability, making it an effective topical ingredient. A study found emu oil to have moisturizing and permeability properties superior to mineral oil. 1

Cosmetics products often include phospholipids, such as palm, sesame, or coconut, within emu oil formulations in order to achieve an enhanced, synergetic effect, thus allowing for optimal skin moisturizing results. 2
