Dr. Anita Ravi, MD, MPH, MSHP, is a family medicine physician and the CEO and Founder of PurpLE Health Foundation (PHF), an innovative nonprofit creating a new field of medicine—gender-based violence (GBV) care—focusing on women who have experienced domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual assault. PHF advances this work through a “Care and Share” model that turns lessons from its pioneering clinic into training for clinicians worldwide.
Dr. Ravi’s trailblazing work at PHF is informed by her decades of experience collaborating with survivors in a variety of settings including Rikers Island, immigration detention centers, and Veterans Affairs. A sought-after speaker and educator, she has trained over 10,000 clinicians in GBV care using creative educational tools that make complex healthcare concepts easier to understand and apply.
Dr. Ravi has received national recognition for her work, including selection as a Fellow of the National Academy of Medicine, where she focuses on the impact of traumatic brain injury among GBV survivors, receiving the American Medical Association Foundation’s “Courage in Women’s Health Advocacy” Award, and being named the 2025 New York State Family Medicine Physician of the Year.
