"Being a Women of Worth means using my platform to help women embrace their identity and dignity when everything else in their life feels out of control."
In 2002 and again in 2005, Carolyn heard the dreaded words, “You have cancer.” As she lost her hair undergoing chemotherapy, Carolyn purchased wigs to conceal the effects of her treatment. Following eight rounds of chemotherapy and new hair growth, she stored her wigs away – until her sisters-in-law received similar diagnoses and found a new use for Carolyn’s wigs.
Carolyn immediately recognized that the progression of wigs from one woman to the next fulfilled a critical need for the patient undergoing treatment, and empowered the survivor by allowing her to give back as she progressed to the next stage in her recovery. She founded EBeauty Community Inc. to improve the quality of life of women undergoing chemotherapy treatments through the implementation of a Wig Exchange Program and through awareness-building events.
The Wig Exchange Program has been the cornerstone of EBeauty programming for five years and the core model continues today. To date, more than 25,000 women have received and donated wigs, and currently, 10,000 wigs are distributed each year to women across the country through a network of hospital partners. Because of the sheer volume of wigs collected and distributed, EBeauty is considered the largest wig exchange program for women undergoing treatment for cancer in the country.
