By now, you probably know that applying SPF on the regular is a must when you plan to spend time outdoors, whether you’re headed to the beach or a rooftop happy hour. But did you know sun damage can occur even while you’re inside? Yup, sunscreen isn’t just a must for when you leave your house. You see, sun exposure can cause skin damage, including premature aging like wrinkles and dark spots, and it can happen even in the comfort of your own home. Don’t believe us? Read on to learn why protecting your skin and wearing sunscreen indoors is important!
We already touched on this, but to be clear: Yes, wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen as directed, even when you’re indoors, is key. Why? Windows. The Skin Cancer Foundation states that glass can block UVB rays, but it still can be penetrated by UVA rays. This means sun coming through the windows in your home and car can cause sun damage—and this is true even on cloudy days! Even when the sky is overcast, up to 80 percent of the sun’s UV rays reach the Earth, per the Skin Cancer Foundation. Aside from windows, car windshields are typically treated to shield drivers from both UVB and UVA radiation, but this often isn’t true for the rest of the windows in your car, as well as the sunroof.
Whether you’re in the car or in your home, it’s important to take proper sun protection measures, including wearing sunscreen. Alternatively, the Skin Cancer Foundation states that another indoor sun protection option is to have a UV-protective film applied to your windows, which can be done in your car or home.
One last thing: Have you considered the sun damage you can get while traveling? Windows on airplanes, trains, and buses allow UVA rays to pass through, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, which means you’ll want to smooth on some SPF prior to your next adventure. For particularly long flights, use sunscreen as directed and make sure to reapply every two hours.
Now that you know about the importance of wearing sunscreen even when indoors, you’ll likely want to stock up on some SPF. To make your routine a little easier, consider using a moisturizer with SPF to help protect your complexion from the sun’s harmful rays while knocking out the hydration step in your regimen, too. Take your pick from the following lineup of L’Oréal Paris products, choosing one to apply as the last step in your skin care routine.
L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Day Lotion SPF 30: This anti-aging face moisturizer is formulated with Pro-Retinol, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and broad-spectrum SPF 30. When used as directed, this daytime lotion helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles, firm, and brighten skin.
L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Rosy Tone Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen: Formulated with imperial peony extract and SPF 30, this moisturizer for mature skin renews and revives a healthy tone for visibly younger-looking skin.
L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Day Moisturizer SPF 30: This moisturizer contains broad-spectrum SPF 30, glycolic acid, vitamin C, and Pro-Retinol to reveal brighter skin, help correct uneven skin tone, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Cell Renewal* Day SPF 15 Cream: Formulated with SPF 15, this day cream maximizes skin's power of rejuvenation to reveal more youthful-looking skin while keeping your complexion hydrated all day long.
L’Oréal Paris Men Expert Vita Lift SPF 15 Anti-Wrinkle & Firming Moisturizer: This moisturizer for men contains broad-spectrum SPF 15 and fortified Pro-Retinol A to help reduce visible wrinkles and sagging skin while firming up the face and neck.
L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Anti Wrinkle Firming Day Cream SPF 25: This unique daily moisturizer with broad-spectrum SPF 25 sunscreen protection delivers smoother, firmer skin. Formulated with Pro-Retinol A and Stimuplex, the cream works to reduce noticeable wrinkles, firm skin, and provide long-lasting hydration.
