Ever wondered how all of your favorite A-listers somehow have a perfect golden summer glow even when it’s smack dab in the middle of winter? The answer is…drumroll please…self-tanner! Using self-tanner is an easy way to fake a tan—and it’s definitely the better choice over lying out in the sun. That’s because when you spend prolonged periods of time out in the sun without wearing SPF protection, this can lead to damage down the road such as visible signs of aging like dark spots and wrinkles. Not worth it, is it?
Now, while you might be a little timid when it comes to using self-tanner, you don’t have to be. There are quite a few different types of self-tanner out there, ranging from self-tanning lotion to self-tanning mist—but right now we’re here to tell you all about the most convenient kind, and one of L’Oréal’s best self-tanner options: self-tanning towelettes. Learn how self-tanning towelettes work and how to use them for some golden color below.
The L'Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze™ Self-Tanning Towelettes for Body are quick, convenient, and provide streak-free color. Available in medium natural tan, these single-use towelettes go on smoothly and provide the perfect amount of color in each wipe. Since they’re individually wrapped, you can toss them in your bag so you can even use one while you’re on vacation and want a little extra color.
Follow these steps for using our self-tanning towelettes and you’ll be good to glow!
Step 1: Cleanse and exfoliate your skin. Have you used self-tanner before only to be disappointed in the streaky results? Well, think about what you did before you applied the self-tanner. If you skipped out on exfoliating beforehand, that could explain the unevenness. Slough away dead skin cells from the surface of your skin by using a gentle scrub in the shower. Pay particular attention to rough areas like your knees and elbows, since they tend to absorb color quicker.
Step 2: Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. After you’re done exfoliating and you hop out of the shower, continue the self-tanner prep process by applying a hydrating body lotion. Make sure the lotion has fully absorbed before moving on to the next step. Once again, you should focus on areas like your ankles, knees, and wrists, since they can be on the drier side and tend to soak up more color than the rest of your skin. If you’re tanning your face, too, you’ll want to use a facial moisturizer post-exfoliation.
Step 3: Apply a self-tanning towelette. Now that you’re well into your skin care routine and have thoroughly prepped your skin for self-tanner, you’re ready to use a self-tanning towelette. All you have to do is smooth one of the individually-wrapped self-tanning towelettes over your entire body. Just make sure to use the self-tanning towelette sparingly around high-absorption areas like your knees, elbows, and feet, since as we’ve told you, these areas can soak up more color.
Step 4: Wash your hands thoroughly after using. Once you’re done applying a self-tanning towelette, get to the sink to wash your hands so that they don’t end up darker than the rest of your body!
Step 5: Allow your self-tanning towelette to fully dry. Patience is a virtue not only in life but when it comes to self-tanner, too! If you want a flawless-looking fake tan, make sure you give your self-tanner time to fully dry. That means you shouldn’t throw your clothes on right after applying it because you could end up with splotchy color and stained clothes. That’s not what you want, now is it? Once your self-tanner has dried, put on dark loose clothes to help ensure the color won’t rub off—and you should also avoid showering or sweating for the next couple of hours.
You can use the L'Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze™ Self-Tanning Towelettes for Body daily until you reach your desired level of tan. Then, you can apply a towelette once or twice a week to maintain your color. Just don’t be surprised if your friends ask you if you just got back from vacation!
