Whether it’s the dead of winter or you’re gearing up for the sweet summer months ahead, we’ve all wanted to fake natural-looking, sun-kissed skin at some point. Fortunately for us, today’s self-tanner formulas are nothing like those of the past. Gone are the days of orange-colored, streaked skin. These new formulations are the ticket to a nearly instant, natural-looking tan that doesn’t require adding much time to your regular skin care routine—and there’s no shortage of options. Here, we’re helping you narrow down your list with our L'Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze Self-Tanner reviews.
If you’ve ever wondered which type of self-tanner is the best choice for your skin type, skin care concerns, and the occasion you’re prepping for, here’s your ultimate guide. From mousse to serum to spray and just about everything in between, we have plenty of self-tanners for you to choose from. Without further ado, here are our reviews of the L’Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze Self-Tanners.
L'Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Water Mousse: This lightweight tanning mousse goes onto skin clear, then develops color over the next four to eight hours. The tanning water formula feels invisible on the skin and is transfer resistant, meaning there’s no mess involved. It also has a fresh coconut fragrance and hydrates skin!
L'Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze Hydrating Self-Tanning Milk Medium: If a more gradual approach to self-tanning is what you’re after, give this lotion a try. Formulated with vitamin E, the gradual tanning lotion nourishes and softens skin while also building a glow. The streak-free formula can be used up to three times a week to maintain your desired color level.
L'Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze Towelettes for Body: These self-tanning towelettes are formulated to provide a medium, natural tan that is also quick drying on the skin. Most notably, the single-use tanning towelettes are quick and convenient, so they’re perfect for on-the-go use. Pack a few for your next vacation to see what we mean.
L'Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Serum: This lightweight self-tanning serum provides a long-lasting, natural-looking glow courtesy of a streak-free and quick-drying formula. The best part is, you can use it on your face and body, which means you won’t have to purchase separate products to get sun-kissed skin from head to toe.
L'Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion Medium Natural Tan: This self-tanner provides a medium tan that won’t streak or rub off, and it also gives skin an instant bronze tint if you don’t want to wait for your tan to develop. Because it provides an immediate tint, this self-tanner could also be a good option for those who are new to using self-tanner since it allows you to see exactly where you have (and haven't) applied product.
L'Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion Deep Natural Tan: A darker version of our tinted self-tanning lotion, this Sublime Bronze tanner produces similar results and will be perfect for anyone who has a deeper skin tone or is starting out with a bit of a tan already.
L'Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze ProPerfect Salon Airbrush Self-Tanning Mist Medium Natural Tan: Don’t be intimidated by this spray-on self-tanner; the 360-degree wide angle applicator will help ensure that you get salon-like results in the comfort of your own home. This self-tanner mist features a fine mist that coats skin evenly to provide an even, natural-looking tan. Because it’s a spray, this self-tanner is especially helpful for covering hard to reach areas, such as your back and the backs of your legs.
Once you’ve selected your self-tanner from the options above, here’s how to apply them—without any streaks in sight.
You’ll want to apply your self-tanner of choice onto freshly-cleansed skin, no matter what type of tanner you’re using. More than that, you should also take care to exfoliate your skin beforehand—paying extra attention to areas of dry skin, such as your knees and elbows. If these areas are too dry, they can soak up excess self-tanner and lead to a patchy-looking tan. To prevent this, simply use a sugar scrub in the shower to slough off dead skin cells and prep your skin for self-tanner.
Since we just discussed the effect of dry skin on self-tanner application, it’s likely you were able to guess your next step—moisturizing! Smooth on a body lotion or cream (and a facial moisturizer, if you’re using self-tanner on your face) after toweling off. Apply your moisturizer all over, giving dry patches a little extra TLC again.
Now, you’re finally ready to apply your self-tanner! As you may have guessed, the application process for the different types of self-tanners can vary slightly. Here’s what to do for each one:
How to apply a…self-tanner lotion, mousse, serum, or milk: Using your bare hands or a tanning mitt, apply a light, even coating of product onto your body from head to toe. Make sure every area is evenly blended. If you used your hands to apply the self-tanner, wash them immediately afterward.
How to apply a…self-tanning mist: Holding the can at an arm’s length away, cover your entire body with a light misting of the self-tanner spray. Don’t rub it in! The self-tanner will do all the work for you, simply let it dry.
How to apply…self-tanning towelettes: To use our self-tanning towelettes, open up the packet and unfold the towelette completely. Then, smooth the towelette evenly over your skin, using it sparingly around your knees, ankles, and elbows. Once you’ve covered your entire body, wash your hands thoroughly.
After you’ve applied your self-tanner, don’t rush to put on your clothes! This will mess up all of the work you’ve just put in. Instead, be patient—wait until your self-tanner feels completely dry before you put clothes on. And when you do get dressed, wear something that's loose fitting and dark in color.
