Spring break is quickly approaching—and if this is the first time you’ll be baring much skin since last summer, then chances are you might want to work on your glow before slipping into a bathing suit. The solution to that, of course, is to use a self-tanner. But which self-tanner should you add to your spring break skin care routine? We’ve got plenty of options for you, ranging from gradual self-tanner lotion to self-tanner towelettes. Keep reading for our best self-tanners to use when you’ve got a few days off this spring, plus find tips for applying self-tanner like a pro.
Get your glow on while you’re off from school or work with one of the following self-tanners.
L’Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze™ Hydrating Self-Tanning Milk Medium: This gradual self-tanner is designed to gradually deliver an even, bronzed glow while softening and nourishing skin. Use it three times a week to build your glow.
L’Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze™ Self-Tanning Towelettes for Body: These convenient, single-use wipes have an advanced skin-smoothing formula with alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and vitamin E for a smooth, streak-free tan.
L’Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze™ ProPerfect Salon Airbrush Self-Tanning Mist: Want a salon-inspired airbrush tanning result at home? The 360-degree wide angle jet applicator of this self-tanner mist provides continuous coverage for a 100 percent natural-looking tan. The super-fine mist applies evenly and dries quickly with no need to rub in. The jet applicator allows you to cover a greater area of skin at one time for easy application.
L’Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze™ Self-Tanning Serum: Featuring a quick-dry formula, this self-tanning serum goes on streak-free and can last for up to two weeks.
L’Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze™ Self-Tanning Lotion: This traditional self-tanner lotion moisturizes your skin while a perfect sunless tan develops. It’s formulated with vitamin E and AHAs to provide a beautiful, streak-free tan.
L’Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze™ Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion: This transfer- and water-resistant formula creates an instant bronze tint as your flawless-looking sunless tan develops. The bronze tint has a hint of shimmer and dries quickly.
L’Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze™ Self-Tanning Gelee: This refreshing skin-smoothing formula with AHAs and vitamin E creates a perfect, streak-free tan. The non-tinted, lightweight formula applies easily and dries quickly.
Once you’ve chosen the self-tanner you want to use over spring break, it’s time to get to work! Follow the steps below to get a believable-looking streak-free faux tan.
Step 1: Cleanse and exfoliate skin. Applying self-tanner over rough areas of skin can result in a patchy finish. That’s why it’s important to cleanse and exfoliate first to get rid of any dead skin cell buildup from skin’s surface.
Step 2: Apply an oil-free moisturizer to any dry areas. You can skip this step if you’re using gradual self-tanner, since that doubles as a body lotion. For all other self-tanners, use an oil-free moisturizer on dry areas before moving on to the next step.
Step 3: Apply evenly all over your body. Regardless of which self-tanner you’ve chosen to use over spring break, make sure to apply it evenly to ensure color goes on smoothly.
Step 4: Use sparingly around your ankles, knees, and elbows. These areas tend to soak up color, so use a light hand when applying self-tanner to them.
Step 5: Wash your hands thoroughly after use. You likely don’t want your hands to end up looking darker than the rest of your body, so head to the sink to wash your hands once you’re done with your self-tanner.
Step 6: Let your skin dry completely before putting on makeup or clothes. To avoid staining, be patient and allow your skin to totally dry prior to getting dressed or doing your makeup. When you are ready to get dressed, reach for dark, loose clothing.
You can use your self-tanner of choice daily until you reach your desired level of than, then once or twice a week to maintain the results.
