What you might think is one of the most basic of skin care products—toner—actually has a few unexpected uses. Typically, toner is used to remove excess dirt, oil, and impurities from the surface of your skin that weren’t removed while washing your face with a facial cleanser. But that’s not the only use toner has. Keep reading to learn seven surprising ways to use our toner, the L’Oréal Paris HydraFresh Toner, as part of your skin care routine.
On a hot day, there’s nothing better than cooling down your skin. You can do that by storing certain skin care products in your fridge—including toner. Pop your bottle of toner in your refrigerator for a few minutes before you want to use it, then take it out, pour some onto a cotton round, and apply it in circular motions to refresh yourself.
Did you know that some toners can actually exfoliate? Our toner is formulated with beta hydroxy acid to gently sweep away dull, tired skin. Removing dead skin cells from the surface via exfoliation can leave you with brighter-looking skin. You don’t need to exfoliate every day—try it once or twice a week to see how your skin responds—and remember to follow up with moisturizer!
It’s time to get creative. Pour toner into an empty spray bottle and add water—use a ration of 2:1 of toner to water—now you have your very own DIY face mist! Spritz it on to hydrate your complexion whenever your skin needs a refreshing pick-me-up. Facial mists are particularly useful when it’s hot and humid outside or after a tough workout. Throw your spray bottle into your gym bag so that you can cool down post-gym session.
You likely remember using toner back in your middle school days—but the ones you were used to were probably formulated with alcohol, which can be drying to the skin. Our toner is alcohol-free. It’s formulated with Pro-Vitamin B5 to help protect against moisture loss. Use it after cleansing, then smooth on a moisturizer for your skin type to help lock in hydration.
Toner doesn’t have to be reserved solely for your face. You can use it to cleanse your neck and chest, too. Extending your skin care routine past your jawline is important—your neck and chest are often the first to show signs of aging if you don’t take care of them. So, post-cleanse, sweep some toner onto your neck and chest as well as your face.
When you’re traveling, you may notice that your skin becomes drier. If you’re flying, the air in a plane can dry out your complexion, making refreshing whenever you can a necessity. So, make sure to bring a bottle of our hydrating toner with you the next time you have a flight scheduled. Pour some out into a travel-sized bottle—and pack cotton balls, too—so that you can fit it in your carry-on bag.
In addition to exfoliating and protecting against moisture loss, our tone also leaves skin feeling soft and supple. Soft skin is key for makeup application (because no one wants to apply makeup over flaky skin!), so prep your skin for foundation and concealer by toning after cleansing. Then, follow up with a thin layer of primer to create an even canvas for the rest of your makeup application.
Now you know about some pretty interesting ways to use toner that you may not have realized could be used in so many ways. Toner is a classic beauty product—but what other classics are worth keeping around in your beauty routine? Here are 6 Classic Beauty Products That Everyone Still Loves.
