Move over, blustery cold winter! It’s to embrace sunny skies, floral dresses, and strappy sandals now that spring is in bloom. And with the change in season should come some tweaks to your skin care routine. Gone are the days of having to slather on a super-heavy facial moisturizer to help keep your skin hydrated in frigid temps. By adding a few (okay, 10) simple skin care hacks to your daily beauty regimen, you can help get back the glow that went into hibernation during the winter. From face masks to face scrubs to moisturizer with SPF to self-tanner, these are the skin care products you’ll want to consider adding to your skin care routine come spring and hacks for using each one.
Stayed out a little too late enjoying yourself at happy hour? Don’t go to bed just yet—it’s important to take your makeup off before you hit the hay. When you sleep in your makeup, it can mix with the dirt and oils on your skin, which can lead to clogged pores—and clogged pores can lead to breakouts. Make things easy on yourself by using a multitasking skin care product, like micellar water, to remove your makeup and cleanse your skin in one step. Micellar water is powered by tiny micelles (oil molecules) that act like a magnet to lift dirt, oil, and makeup up and away from your skin.
Want to find your micellar water match? The L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser for Normal to Oily Skin purifies and mattifies, the L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser for Normal to Dry Skin hydrates and soothes, and the L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser Waterproof – All Skin Types intensely purifies. The best part is, you don’t need to be anywhere near a sink to use micellar water, since it’s a no rinse cleansing option. Just saturate a cotton pad with it and wipe the pad across your face. For eye makeup removal, hold the pad over closed eyes for a few seconds, then wipe.
Does your complexion need a little extra attention post-winter? Try multi-masking, which involves applying different masks to different areas of your face—at the same time! Considering using clay masks when you’re ready to multi-mask. This skin care technique can be particularly useful if you have combination skin and are dealing with various issues on different parts of your face. The L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Mask Detox & Brighten Face Mask helps reduce the look of dullness; the L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Mask Purify & Mattify Face Mask helps reduce the look of excess shine; the L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Mask Exfoliate & Refining Face Mask helps exfoliate dead skin cells on the skin’s surface; the L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Clear & Comfort Face Mask helps reduce the look of imperfections by calming skin; and the L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Clarify & Smooth Face Mask helps clarify skin tone.
Once you’ve met your face mask match, apply an even layer to clean, dry skin and leave it on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing it off thoroughly with lukewarm water. For best results, use 2-3 times a week.
With the ushering in of spring, you can officially say sayonara to the heavier face lotion you were using to help keep your skin hydrated in winter, when there was low moisture in the air. This season, try a lightweight water-based moisturizer instead. The L’Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care for Normal/Oily Skin, L’Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care for Normal/Dry Skin, and L’Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care for Extra Dry Skin are water-based moisturizers that are formulated with hyaluronic acid and aloe vera water to help provide long-lasting hydration.
Skin looking a little on the dull side after being cooped up under hats and scarves for months? It’s time to help bring some of that radiance back by using a face scrub during your nighttime beauty routine. To get the job done, use a face scrub. The L’Oréal Paris Pure-Sugar Nourish & Soften Face Scrub, L’Oréal Pars Pure-Sugar Smooth & Glow Face Scrub, and L’Oréal Paris Pure-Sugar Purify & Unclog Face Scrub are all formulated with three different types of sugar for gentle yet exfoliation. Two or three times a week, take your face scrub of choice and apply to skin that is dry, then gently massage it in using wet fingers. Finish by rinsing off thoroughly with lukewarm water and patting dry.
Always on the go? Don’t skip out on broad-spectrum sunscreen! Instead of applying a moisturizer and then layering on sunscreen, use a moisturizer with SPF (the Skin Cancer Foundation recommends one that’s SPF 30 or higher) to cut back on the number of steps in your skin care routine. Apply the L’Oréal Paris RevitaLift Bright Reveal Brightening Day Moisturizer SPF 30, which is formulated with glycolic acid, vitamin C, Pro-Retinol, and broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF 30. Apply it as directed, and make sure to take additional sun protection measures, including limiting your amount of time in the sun (especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., which are the sun’s peak hours), seeking shade when you’re outside, and covering up exposed areas in long sleeves, pants, a broad-brimmed hat, and UV-blocking sunglasses.
Pastel shades are super-popular this time of year—so go ahead and embrace the trend by using color correcting concealers. Color correction involves using different colored concealers to cancel out skin imperfections that are opposite them on the color wheel. The L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Color Correcting Crayons come in five pastel concealer hues: peach, bisque, and orange (to disguise dark circles on varying skin tones), yellow (to hide discolorations), and green (to neutralize the appearance of redness). Use each concealer sparingly and apply to targeted areas. Apply the peach in an upside-down triangle shape under your eyes; apply the yellow on your eyelids; and apply the green around the sides of your nose. Use the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Blend Artist Concealer Blender to apply your color correcting concealer, then follow up with flesh-toned concealer, like the L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Super-Blendable Multi-Use Concealer, and foundation to perfect your spring look.
Put down your foundation this season and add a little bit of highlighter to your moisturizer to get your glow on. Squeeze a few drops of the L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Lumi Glow Amour Glow Boosting Drops onto a makeup blender, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Blend Artist Contour Blender, and mix it with your moisturizer. Apply all over your face for the perfect springtime glow without having to wear a ton of face makeup.
Last but not least, spring’s warm weather gets us thinking about gorgeous, golden tans. You too? Self-tanner is the best way to create the appearance of bronzed skin any time of the year. New to the self-tanner game? Pick up a bottle of the L’Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze™ Hydrating Self-Tanning Milk Medium. This gradual self-tanner will help you go from winter-weathered to springtime fresh. Use it three times a week as your body lotion for a gradual tan.
