Congratulations: You’ve officially made it through winter! And you what that means—it’s time for a spring break getaway. (And if you haven’t planned one yet, what are you waiting for?) While vacationing somewhere warm to ring in the new season is super-exciting, figuring out what to pack can be a daunting task. From shorts to sandals to swimsuits, you have a lot to fit into one suitcase. And that’s not even including your beauty products. If you’re anything like us, you tend to over pack when it comes to skin care products. At the same time, though, there are definitely some useful skin care products to have at your disposal when you’re traveling. Consult our spring break skin care packing checklist—and get your suitcase in order!
When you’re on the go, the last thing you want to do when you get back from your hotel at night is drag yourself into the bathroom to wash your face. But before you drift off, you really should take off your makeup and cleanse your skin, since sleeping in your makeup can lead to clogged pores, which can lead to breakouts. What’s more clogged pores can lead to breakouts. And we think it’s a pretty safe bet to say that you want your complexion to look its best for all those spring break selfies you’re going to be snapping poolside, right? That means cleansing your complexion is a must.
To make things easier on yourself, stash a micellar water and a pack of cotton rounds in your overnight bag. Micellar water is a no-rinse gentle cleansing option—so, you can leave it on the desk next to your bed so you don’t even have to make the trip to the bathroom. Micellar water is powered by tiny micelles—oil molecules—that lift makeup, dirt, and oil up and away from the skin. Try the L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser for Normal to Oily Skin or the L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser for Normal to Dry Skin. All you have to do is saturate a cotton pad with the micellar water and wipe it across your face. If you’re wearing eye makeup, hold the pad over closed eyes for a few seconds, then wipe.
If you’ve been running around all day long playing tourist, your skin might need a little extra boost of hydration. That’s where a refreshing facial mist comes in. You can spritz one on as needed throughout the day, so be sure to toss one in your tote before heading out in the morning. A facial mist can especially come in handy when it’s really hot outside—trust us, it’ll feel great to spray one on!
Wearing broad-spectrum sunscreen daily is one of the best things you can do from your skin. That’s because sun exposure sans protection can lead to damage—and that damage can show up on your skin down the road as visible signs of aging like dark spots and wrinkles. And you should wear broad-spectrum SPF every day rain or shine—yep, even if it’s not so sunny out (according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, you can get burned even on cloudy days). To cut down on the number of steps in your spring break skin care routine, reach for a moisturizer formulated with broad-spectrum SPF—look for one that has an SPF of 30 or higher. The L’Oréal Paris RevitaLift Bright Reveal Brightening Day Lotion SPF 30 is formulated with glycolic acid, vitamin C, Pro-Retinol, and broad-spectrum SPF 30. Apply it all over your face 15 minutes before going outside. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, you should reapply sunscreen every two hours—so clear some space in your purse so that you can carry this with you. Oh, and bring a pair of shades along for the ride as well!
As we told you earlier, sleeping in a face full of makeup is a total skin care no-no. Makeup removing towelettes are a great alternative to micellar water since their packaging makes them very travel-friendly. Seriously, they’re definitely one of the easier skin care products to fit in your suitcase. The L’Oréal Paris Ideal Clean™ Makeup Removing Towelettes gently cleanse and remove all makeup—even waterproof mascara (score!). Plus, they’re alcohol-free, so they won’t dry out your skin. Makeup removing towelettes are about the most no-brainer skin care product you can use—just wipe one across your face, paying particular attention to areas you’re wearing makeup, and you’re good to go. Since they’re so travel-friendly, consider bringing them along with you while you’re out and about. That way, you can easily cleanse your skin and redo your makeup if you’ have a night out on the town planned! You just may want to come prepared with foundation, mascara, and lipstick, too.
Be honest: How much attention do you really show your pout? We get it—it’s easy to neglect your lips. But they definitely deserve some love, too! Dry lips can be very uncomfortable, so before leaving for your trip, grab one (or a few!) lip balms so that you can have them on hand whenever you feel you need to reapply. Since lip balms are so small, they’re the perfect product to place in even the tiniest clutches. If you can, look for one that has broad-spectrum SPF to help keep your lips protected from the sun.
Our hands are another area that many of us tend to overlook when it comes to moisturizing. Solve that by throwing a tube of travel-size hand cream into your suitcase and pack it in your purse so that you can slather some on on-the-go. Think about it: If you got a pre-spring break mani, you probably want to show off your nail polish, right? It’ll look much better if your hands are hydrated!
When you’re on vacation, using multitasking products (like moisturizer formulated with broad-spectrum SPF) are a total lifesaver. Another multitasker we’re fans of: BB cream! The “BB” in BB cream stands for beauty balm—essentially, it’s makeup that has skin care benefits, which can be anything from SPF protection to hydration to shine control. Think of BB cream as the next generation of tinted moisturizer—it’s perfect to use on those days when you want a natural look or you just don’t have that much time to get ready. The L’Oréal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream has four benefits in one. With encapsulated pigments infused in an ultra-light lotion, it primes to smooth skin’s texture, perfects to hide imperfections, hydrates for all day moisture, and corrects skin for an even-looking complexion. Just rub the BB cream in circular motions onto your face to blend it in. Another option: The L’Oréal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream Anti-Redness, which can help to neutralize the look of redness as well as hydrate, correct, and perfect. The BB cream’s green hue transforms when you apply it to your skin. Since opposite shades on the color wheel can cancel each other out, green is often used to color correct skin redness.
When you go on vacation, you probably want to come back home with a littler color, don’t you? Well, you know by now how important it is to protect yourself from sun exposure. That doesn’t mean you can’t fake a golden glow while you’re away. Just pack some self-tanning towelettes with you—this is yet another travel-friendly beauty product you should easily be able to find room for in your suitcase. The L’Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze™ Self-Tanning Towelettes are quick and convenient and offer smooth, even application. To use, first cleanse and exfoliate your skin (so be sure to pack an exfoliating scrub with you if you’re planning self-tanner while you’re away!). Then, moisturize and smooth a towelette over your body, unfolding as needed. Use sparingly around your ankles, knees, and elbows—these areas can be on the drier side and tend to absorb color more quickly. Wash your hands after you’re done, and let your skin dry before putting on any clothes. (When you do get dressed, opt for loose, dark items!) You can use a towelette daily until you’ve reached your desired level of tan, then once or twice a week to help maintain results.
Regardless of where you’re traveling for spring break, packing a few essential skin care products can make your life a whole lot easier when you’re on the road. Multitasking products, such as moisturizer formulated with broad-spectrum SPF and BB cream are always great options, as are travel-friendly products like makeup removing towelettes and lip balm. There’s no reason to go overboard with skin care products when you’re on vacation—just make a little bit of space in your suitcase for a few key items. Happy traveling, everyone—go ahead and enjoy the beautiful spring weather!
