By now, you likely know there’s more than one way to cleanse your skin—and more than one type of facial cleanser to choose from. While you might be tempted to stick with what you know, be it clay cleansers or micellar water, there’s one cleansing option you may be missing out on: cleansing oil. The oil cleansing method has become increasingly popular as of late, and as a leading option for double cleansing, it’s certainly one worth learning about. Below, we’re sharing everything you need to know about facial cleansing oil—from what it is to how to use it in your skin care routine.
Oil cleansing is just what it sounds like—using a cleansing oil to cleanse and wash your face of debris such as excess dirt, oils, and makeup. Rather than using surfactants as the primary ingredient to cleanse as with most traditional facial cleanser options, cleansing oils are powered by oils.
Remember science lessons back in your grade school days? Well, you may recall learning something about like attracting like—and that’s exactly how cleansing oils work! The oil in cleansing oil attracts the oils that are on your skin—be it excess sebum, makeup, or other impurities. Pretty cool, right? Not to mention, cleansing oils will also help to moisturize and soften your skin.
Almost anyone—seriously! Cleansing oils are a great option for all skin types, and no, they won’t make your skin oily. As long as there are no fragrances involved, cleansing oils are also suitable for those with sensitive skin.
Now that you know more about oil cleansing and how it works, you may be curious as to how to use a cleansing oil in your skin care regimen. Follow the steps below, and you’ll be well on your way to being an oil cleansing pro!
Most cleansing oils are best applied to damp skin. Wet your face with lukewarm water to prep for your cleansing oil. Keep in mind that some cleansing oils are best applied to dry skin, so be sure to follow the directions on the product you use!
Apply the cleansing oil to your skin, massaging it in circular motions over your face.
After you’ve given the cleansing oil time to work its magic, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
Like we mentioned, cleansing oils are great for double cleansing. This time around, give the L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Detox & Brighten Cleanser or the L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Exfoliate & Refine Cleanser a go. Squeeze the cleanser into your hands and add water to transform from clay to mousse. Gently massage onto your face using circular motions, avoiding the eye area. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry.
Show your skin some extra love by applying a face serum post-cleansing. Take your pick from the following, based on your skin concerns.
If you have wrinkles…try the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensives 10% Pure Glycolic Acid Serum, which reduces wrinkles and brightens dark spots.
If you have dull skin…try the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensives 10% Pure Vitamin C Serum, which boosts radiance and reduces wrinkles.
If you have dry skin…try the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensives 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum, which immediately replenishes hydration and reduces wrinkles.
The delicate skin around your eyes deserves attention, too! Apply the L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Rosy Tone Anti-Aging Eye Brightener to visibly correct dark circles.
Last but not least, finish your skin care routine by applying a moisturizer of your choice. We recommend the L’Oréal Paris Hydra Genius line. Take your pick from the L’Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care - Normal/Oily Skin, L’Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care - Normal/Dry Skin, and L’Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care - Extra Dry Skin.
