Haven’t tried micellar water yet? It’s about time you acquainted yourself with this super-trendy facial cleanser! Micellar water has been a French-favorite skin care product for years—and for good reason. It’s a no-rinse option that is powered by tiny micelles—oil molecules—which act like a magnet to lift dirt, oil, and makeup up and away from the skin. Because there’s no rinsing involved, micellar water is a great on-the-go option—and there are quite a few ways to use it in addition to just as a facial cleanser. Here, find out which micellar water can work best for your skin type and learn about a few different hacks involving micellar water that can make your skin care routine a whole lot easier.
Before you get started, pick a micellar water that suits your needs. The L'Oréal Paris Micellar Water Complete Cleanser for Normal to Oily Skin purifies and mattifies, the L'Oréal Paris Micellar Water Complete Cleanser for Normal to Dry Skin hydrates and soothes, and the L'Oréal Paris Micellar Water Complete Cleanser Waterproof – All Skin Types intensely purifies.
Ready to have some fun with micellar water? Here are five different ways you can use this handy-dandy skin care product.
Hack #1: Use it as a makeup remover. Gone are the days when you need to use a separate makeup remover and facial cleanser. Yep—micellar water can be used on even your most stubborn face makeup, lip color, and eye makeup to remove all traces of residue in addition to dirt and oil. Thinking of skipping out on this step before you go to bed? Not so fast. When you sleep in your makeup, it can mix with the dirt and oil on your skin, leading to clogged pores—and clogged pores can lead to breakouts. Even if you’re too tired to drag yourself to the bathroom, that’s OK. Just leave a bottle of micellar water on your nightstand to get the job done. Saturate a cotton pad with micellar water and wipe it across your face. For eye makeup removal, hold the pad over closed eyes for a few seconds, then wipe.
Hack #2: Use it as the first step in a double cleanse. Does it feel like some days, your complexion could benefit from a little extra cleansing to help remove all traces of dirt, excess oils, and makeup from the surface? In those situations, why not try double cleansing? Use a micellar water as the first step in your double cleansing routine, then follow up with a rinse-off facial cleanser formulated for your skin type. Try the L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Detox & Brighten Cleanser, L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Exfoliate & Refine Cleanser, or L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Purify & Mattify Cleanser.
Hack #3: Use it as a post-gym refresher. After a sweaty cardio session at the gym, cleanse and refresh your skin with micellar water. Since it doesn’t require you to rinse it off, micellar water is a great skin care product to stash in your gym bag (along with deodorant and dry shampoo, of course!). So, once you’re done working out, head to the locker room to cleanse your face and do whatever else you need to freshen up.
Hack #4: Use it to perfect your makeup. Let’s be real: Is there anything worse when you’re trying to get out the door than muffing up your liquid eyeliner or lipstick? We think not—and we’d bargain that you don’t either. You don’t have to start all over again, though. Any time you find that you’ve accidentally gone outside of the lines, just dip an angled brush or cotton swab into micellar water to help clean it up right away. Easy enough!
Hack #5: Use it as a facial mist. For days when you’re not wearing any makeup and you just want to freshen your skin a little bit, turn to micellar water. Pour it into a spray bottle and spritz it onto your face in the middle of the day when you feel you need a refresh.
