These days, it’s all about the “no makeup, makeup” look. But, ironically, that still requires wearing a whole bunch of products. If you want to confidently go makeup-free—and we mean really makeup-free—it’s all about taking care of your skin and keeping your complexion happy. Whether you’re doing so because you’re pressed for time or you just want to give your skin a break, following a consistent skin care routine is key. Ready to go bare-faced? Here’s your game plan.
You don’t need to go overboard when it comes to your skin care routine. Sometimes, it pays to keep things simple. It’s all about finding products that work for your skin type, whether that’s oily, dry, sensitive, or combination.
Step 1: Cleanser. Cleanse your skin morning and night as the first step in your skin care routine. Reach for a gentle, no-rinse option like micellar water, which is powered by tiny micelles (oil molecules) that lift dirt, oil, and makeup up and away from the skin. The L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser for Normal to Oily Skin purifies and mattifies, the L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser for Normal to Dry Skin hydrates and soothes, and the L’Oréal Paris Micellar Water Complete Cleanser Waterproof – All Skin Types intensely purifies. Just pour some out onto a cotton pad and wipe the pad across your face. You can also hold it over closed eyes for a few seconds to remove eye makeup.
Step 2: Toner. Once you’re done cleansing, it’s time for toner. The L’Oréal Paris HydraFresh Toner is alcohol-free and can help gently sweep away dull, tired skin and protect against moisture loss. Apply it with a cotton ball morning and night.
Step 3: Serum. Next up: Serum! The L’Oréal Paris Youth Code™ Texture Perfector Serum Concentrate is suitable for all skin tones and types. It can help improve overall skin quality with continued use over time. Bonus: It’s mattifying!
Step 4: Moisturizer + Sunscreen. It’s important to moisturize regardless of your skin type, so don’t skip out! The L’Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care for Normal/Oily Skin, L’Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care for Normal/Dry Skin, and L’Oréal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care for Extra Dry Skin are lightweight water-based moisturizers formulated with hyaluronic acid and aloe water to help provide long-lasting hydration.
In the morning, you’re going to want to layer a broad-spectrum sunscreen over your moisturizer to help protect against UV rays. Instead of using two products, you can use a moisturizer formulated with broad-spectrum SPF, like the L’Oréal Paris RevitaLift Bright Reveal Brightening Day Lotion SPF 30. Spending prolonged periods of time in the sun sans protection can lead to damage, which can lead to visible signs of aging down the road, like wrinkles and dark spots. That’s why it’s always a good idea to wear sunscreen daily (you can get burned even on cloudy days, so do this rain or shine!). After all, you don’t want to have to use concealer and foundation to hide those signs of aging, right?
Step 5: Eye cream. You’re almost there! There’s no need for concealer if you use the L’Oréal Paris RevitaLift Miracle Blur Eye, which has a silky, hydrating formula that glides on to the skin for an immediate smoothing effect and cool, fresh finish. Dot on a small amount with your fingertips and gently blend in.
Depending on your skin concerns, you may want to include some add-ons to your skin care routine if you’re seeking to go makeup-free. As you mature, your skin is gradually depleted of essential nutrients and oils. Skin becomes dry and dull and loses its glow. The L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Glow Renewal Facial Oil is formulated for mature skin with eight essential oils to help replenish skin and restore a glow to even dry, dull skin. Apply four to five drops onto the palm of your hand and dab the oil onto your face with your fingers in small dots. Smooth the product on slowly, using the whole surface of your hands.
You know that tanning is a skin care no-no—but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some golden color! Just use a self-tanner, like the L’Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze™ Self-Tanning Lotion. This quick-dry lotion will leave you with a streak-free bronze tint that has a touch of shimmer. To use, cleanse and exfoliate in the shower, apply an oil-free moisturizer to dry areas, then apply the self-tanner evenly all over your body. Use it sparingly around your ankles, knees, and elbows, and make sure to wash your hands thoroughly after you’re done. Let your skin completely dry before getting dressed. Use daily until you reach your desired level of tan, then use once or twice a week to maintain the results.
In lieu of translucent powder (which can look cakey if you put too much on), keep a pack of blotting papers on hand to help sop up any excess oil you might experience throughout the day.
