If you’re like us, you love a perfectly painted statement lip. And, if you’re also like us, you hate when dry lips get in the way of your pretty pout. While you might be smoothing lip balm onto your lips on the regular, you may be forgetting one essential lip care step: exfoliation. Huh? That’s right—just as you buff away dead skin cell buildup from the surface of your skin, you should do the same to your lips to help create a soft, smooth base for lipstick application. And we just so happen to have four scrubs that can be used on your lips! Below, learn about our best scrubs and how to use them on your lips.
Ready to add a scrub to your lip care routine? Sounds like it's time to read up on our scrubs, which work on your face and lips. Each of the following four scrubs is a sugar scrub and can help you smooth and refine the overall look of your lips. (Just don’t scrub chapped lips!) Each of the four is formulated with a blend of three pure sugars for gentle and effective exfoliation.
L’Oréal Paris Pure-Sugar Resurface & Energize Kona Coffee Scrub: Want to give your lips a caffeine fix? This scrub has you covered. Formulated with real Kona coffee grounds sourced directly from the Kona Coast of Hawaii, the scrub instantly energizes skin while removing dirt, oil, and impurities for smooth, soft lips.
L’Oréal Paris Pure-Sugar Purify & Unclog Kiwi Scrub: Get your green on by using this green scrub, which is formulated with kiwi seeds and three types of sugar, to gently exfoliate your lips. After using, lips will feel baby-soft, smooth, and comforted.
L’Oréal Paris Pure-Sugar Smooth & Glow Grapeseed Scrub: This scrub provides gentle exfoliation thanks to a formula that contains finely ground acai and grapeseed and monoi oils. You’ll be left with a baby-soft, visibly smooth pout.
L’Oréal Paris Pure-Sugar Nourish & Soften Cocoa Scrub: In addition to the combo of three sugars, this face scrub is formulated with finely crushed cocoa, luxurious coconut oil, and rich cocoa butter. The buttery-soft scrub will leave your lips feeling nourished, softer, and suppler.
Using a scrub on your lips is easy, but that doesn’t mean you can’t benefit from a quick refresher! Follow our step-by-step tutorial below, including a few tips on applying lipstick afterward.
If you have lipstick on, use the L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser Waterproof - All Skin Types to gently remove any makeup before applying your scrub.
Massage your scrub of choice onto your lips with wet fingers. Make sure to use gentle circular motions to exfoliate away dead skin.
Rinse the scrub off with lukewarm water, then pat dry.
Just as you should always moisturize after exfoliating your face, you’ll want to nourish your lips with a conditioning balm after scrubbing your pout.
Next, go ahead and apply a lip primer. Primer can help create a smooth canvas for your lipstick application.
Once your lips are prepped, it’s onto applying lip liner! Lip liner can help prevent color from bleeding outside the lines, so you won’t want to skip this step. Use an invisible lip liner or one that closely matches the color of your lipstick. Try a shade of the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lip Liner or L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Matte Lip Liner. While you can over line your lips to help create the illusion of a fuller-looking pout, only do so slightly as going overboard can result in an overly fake look.
Now, it’s time for the fun part! Glide your favorite shade of the L’Oréal Paris Rouge Signature, Lasting Matte Liquid Lipstick over your lips for a pretty pout. Simply start at the center of your top lip and work your way out to the corners before finishing with a swipe across your bottom lip.
