It’s easy to forget or confuse priorities when it comes to your skin care routine given the so many options, trends and innovations abound. It’s always a good thing to expand your skin care horizons and try new things, but it’s important to not overlook the skin care basics that can become overshadowed by the latest beauty tools and skin care revelations. Incorporate new skin care products and try out the trends, but always keep these five tips for beautiful skin from Dr. Rocio Rivera, Director of Scientific Communications at L'Oréal Skin Expert Paris, in the mix.
Beautiful skin care tip #1: Wear SPF, rain or shine, 365 days a year. Even if it’s cloudy, your skin is still exposed to UV rays. It’s important to make applying SPF a part of your daily skin care routine; it should become as second nature as brushing your teeth. UV exposure can increase the process of skin aging by contributing to the development of wrinkles, fine lines and age spots. Look for facial oil, serum, tinted moisturizer or day cream that has SPF broad spectrum protection. A day cream like, Age Perfect® Glow Renewal SPF 30 Lotion protects your face, neck and chest – and you can also apply to the top of your hands, which is an area that is often over looked, but shows early signs of aging just like your face.
Beautiful skin care tip #2: Cleanse twice a day. A basic foundation to beautiful skin is having clean skin. The goal is not to strip the skin of the natural oils it needs, but to adequately cleanse the skin of the built up of oils, dirt, makeup and pollutants on the surface of your skin. It’s important to cleanse in the morning to clean your skin of sweat, oils that might have transferred from your hair, pillow or sheets to your skin overnight. In the evening, consider double cleansing: Double cleansing means that you first remove makeup with a facial wipe, like Ideal Clean™ All Skin Types Makeup Removing Towelettes, or toner and then you follow-up by cleansing your face with your regular cleanser.
Beautiful skin care tip #3: Moisturize. You need to replenish your beautiful skin with the moisture it loses everyday. Hydrated skin looks and feels its best. Moisturizing should have always been an important part of your skin care routine, but it becomes increasingly essential as you age. Your skin’s natural oil production will reduce as you age.
Beautiful skin care #4: Drink water. Hydrating on the inside can be just as important as hydrating on the outside when it comes to having truly beautiful skin. Drinking water throughout the day can keep your body better hydrated.
Beautiful skin care #5: Do not pick at your skin, no matter how tempting. Picking and touching your skin will only make it more vulnerable to blemishes and breakouts. Your hands can transfer dirt and germs to the delicate skin on your face, clogging your pores. Keep your hands away from your face to foster fresh, beautiful skin.
No matter how fancy your skin care routine may get, always remember to start with the basics for skin that will maintain its beauty for the years to come.
