We’re all about indulging from time to time, whether it’s enjoying a glass of red wine with dinner or buying the pair of heels you’ve had your eye on forever. Or—one of our favorites—relaxing with a face mask on while you catch up on your favorite TV show or soak in a bubble bath. Ahhh…does it get any better than that? But there’s something we enjoy even more than using a face mask—and that would be using multiple face masks, at the same time. If you haven’t tried multi-masking yet, it’s time to get on it! Here, learn about the benefits of multi-masking and how to multi-mask with our favorite L'Oréal clay face masks.
Before you get your multi-mask on, it’s important to understand the thought behind this buzzy skin care trend. As you’re probably well aware, it’s possible to experience different skin issues on different parts of your face. For example, you may find that your T-zone (which includes your forehead, nose, and chin) is comprised of oily skin, whereas the skin around your nose might be drier than other areas, and your cheeks can look rough or dull. So, why use one face mask all over when you can apply different ones to different areas (all at the same time) to address your varied skin concerns? That’s the beauty of multi-masking!
The first step when it comes to multi-masking is to choose the masks you want to use. Assess the skin care concerns you want to address, then find the masks that match. Below, find a breakdown of which of our L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Masks is best for different skin care concerns. Each of the masks is formulated with three types of clay (kaolin, montmorillonite, and Moroccan lava) and is perfect for multi-masking!
The clay mask for stressed skin: Over time, harsh cleansing can be drying and sensitizing, leaving skin uncomfortable. As a result, skin needs cleansing that is effective yet gentle. The L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Clear & Comfort Mask, enhanced with seaweed, can help draw out the buildup of impurities, dirt, and pollution, reduce the look of imperfections, and gently cleanse stressed areas.
The clay mask for oily skin: Day after day, impurities, dirt, makeup, and excess oils can build up, leaving your complexion looking overly oily. The L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Purify & Mattify Mask, enhanced with eucalyptus leaf extract, can help draw out the buildup of impurities, dirt, and oils and reduce the look of excess shine.
The clay mask for dull skin: Over time, harsh environmental factors like pollution and debris can damage skin, leaving your complexion looking dull. The L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Detox & Brighten Mask, enhanced with charcoal, can help draw out the buildup of impurities, dirt, and pollution and reduce the look of dull skin.
The clay mask for rough skin: Dead skin cells can accumulate on the surface of your skin day after day, leaving it feeling rough. The L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Exfoliate & Refining Mask, enhanced with red algae extract, can help draw out the buildup of impurities, dirt, and oils and exfoliate dead skin cells from the surface of your skin.
The clay mask for uneven skin texture and tone: Daily wear and tear can leave your complexion with uneven skin tone and texture, and oftentimes a cleanser isn’t enough to remedy the situation. The L'Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Clarify & Smooth Face Mask is formulated with yuzu lemon to help shed rough, dead skin cells and smooth out your skin’s texture and tone.
Editor’s note: Can’t decide which masks to experiment with first? We’ve got you covered! Pick up the L'Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Multi-Mask Clay Tripod Kit, which includes three of our clay face masks (the charcoal, eucalyptus, and red algae masks) to get you started on your multi-masking journey.
Now, how do you actually put your masks to use? First, cleanse your complexion with a facial cleanser—you don’t want to apply a mask on top of skin that’s anything less than completely clean. Then, apply an even layer of each of your masks onto clean, dry skin. Apply one mask at a time, focusing the product on the area it’s suited to help. Leave your clay masks on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water. Follow up with a moisturizer that’s formulated for your skin type and your skin pampering session is complete!
As for how often you should repeat your multi-masking routine, our clay masks are formulated to be used two to three times a week for best results. Think you can carve out time for a little TLC a couple of times a week? You deserve it!
Since you’re officially committed to regular masking now, it won’t hurt to brush up on your face mask skills and make sure you’re doing everything the right way. It can get more complicated than you might think! Here, learn about the 10 Face Mask Mistakes You Could Be Making.
