Oily skin can affect anyone at nearly any point in their life. There are many factors, on an external and internal level, that can increase oil production, including the weather, your stress levels and even your daily skin care routine. If you have oily skin, you may be looking for new ways to mattify shine and help make your pores appear smaller. To gain better control over shine and the appearance of pore size, consider introducing a clay mask into your routine two to three times a week.
When used regularly, clay masks can help decrease the amount of superficial sebum – your skin’s natural oils – that your skin’s oil producing glands create. Reducing the amount of oil present on the surface layer of the skin can help reduce shine and oiliness on your skin’s surface and lessen the chance of clogging your pores. Additionally, when your pores are filled with oil – and possibly sweat and dirt– they may stretch to accommodate your skin’s surface build up, this can make your pores appear larger. When oil and any other debris is removed or reduced, pores may temporarily appear smaller, compared to when they are filled with excess oil and dirt.
Look for a clay mask formulated to mattify and purify the skin, a clay mask formula that is infused with eucalyptus, an essential leaf extract, can help to mattify excess shine and purify pores. You could also alternate in a detoxifying clay mask as well. A detoxifying clay mask formulated with charcoal can help draw out debris from your skin’s surface; what it picks up will be washed away once you rinse off your clay mask. Lastly, consider trying a clay mask that can refine and exfoliate your skin’s surface. Regular exfoliation can help clear the skin’s surface of dead skin cells; minimizing the potential of unwanted clogged pores.
Apply your clay mask after cleansing, leave your clay mask on for ten to fifteen minutes, and rinse completely with lukewarm water. Always remember to moisturize once your clay mask has been removed. Try a lightweight serum and moisturizer to hydrate your oily skin in place of heavy creams that may contribute to pore congestion.
