Dryness, a loss of skin’s natural moisture, is a common skin concern shared by many. Even if you have an oily T-zone, for example, you may experience dryness in your cheeks from time to time. Very dry skin can flake, itch and even crack. Sometimes it may be hard to tell if you actually have dry skin as a skin type or if there is something else behind it. Understand the common triggers of very dry skin and see if there are any changes you can make to have more hydrated skin overall.
Skin Dryness Reason #1: The weather. Dry, cold air draws the moisture out of skin. Additionally, if you are living or visiting a climate that is winter-like in season you’ll encounter days inside accompanied by dry indoor heat. Skin Dryness Reason #2: You’re over-cleansing. Washing your face more than twice a day can dry out skin and deplete it of its natural oils that it needs to stay hydrated. Skin Dryness Reason #3: You haven’t exfoliated enough. Dead skin cells build up on the surface of skin.
