Sometimes, beautiful skin isn’t simply about the measures you take, but also about the potential mistakes you could make along the way. You may think that you are taking good care of your skin, but if you’re making one or more of these common skin care mistakes you could be sabotaging your other efforts. If you’re in a hurry, try cleansing your skin with a facial wipe or a micellar water formula, these cleansing options don’t require any wetting or drying time, so you can get a fresh face in a hurry.
Skin care mistake #2: Not exfoliating regularly. Regular exfoliation can help your skin appear more bright and fresh. Typically, you should exfoliate about two to three times a week, if you’ve been exfoliating less frequently or not at all, dead skin cells can pile up and bury your radiant, younger-looking cells. Try a mechanical exfoliating method, like a facial scrub or brush if you have oily skin and consider chemically exfoliating with a glycolic acid peel pad if your skin is on the drier side.
Skin care mistake #3: Heading out sans sun protection. Applying SPF with broad spectrum protection is one of the best skin care routine steps you can take to preserve your beautiful skin’s youthful integrity. If left unprotected and vulnerable to the sun’s rays, your skin will be more likely to prematurely develop fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and even sagging skin. UV rays can also worsen and exaggerate the look of existing signs of skin aging. So, try to make daily SPF application a regular part of your daily skin care routine.
Skin care mistake #4: Not moisturizing your skin if its oily. Every skin type, even oily skin needs moisture. Not replenishing your skin with moisture after cleansing will only trick your oil producing glands into thinking that they have to make up for the temporary dryness and this can lead to even more oil than you had in the first place. If you have oily skin, don’t intentionally dry it out, instead incorporate a lightweight serum and moisturizer into your daily skin care routine.
Skin care mistake #5: Going to bed with makeup on. If you’ve gone to bed with any makeup on, it can mix with oil and sweat while you sleep and potentially clog your pores. Day-old makeup residue can also contribute to the look of dull, lackluster skin too. There are a few ways to remove makeup, so determine which option is best for you and try to get in the habit of making makeup removal a regular part of your nighttime skin care routine.
