If you’re looking to address dull skin, dryness, fine line and wrinkles, you’re not alone. You may even be trying to find solutions for age spots and sagging skin too. These signs of skin aging are inevitable – and while you can do your best to ward them off, chances are you will develop one, some or all of them at some point in your life. You may not be able to erase every trace that the hands of time have taken on your skin, however you can adjust your skin care routine to address your anti-aging needs.
Anti-aging skin care routine tweak #1: Wash your face with a cream cleanser. As you age, it’s common for your skin to experience dryness. Some foam or gel-based cleansing formulas can be too drying for aging skin. Better to preserve the natural oil your skin still has and is producing by finding cleansing it with a cream cleanser that is nourishing and hydrating.
Anti-aging skin care routine tweak #2: Exfoliate more gently and more often. Your skin may lose some of its natural glow as you age in part due to the buildup of dead skin cells on your skin’s surface. These skin cells are not easily shed, so you’ll have to encourage their removal by exfoliating. If you have always exfoliated with formulas that have particles, you may want to consider switching to a chemical exfoliating method. Chemical exfoliating formulas, like pre-soaked glycolic acid peel pads, can be gentle enough to use on a daily basis, and can work to dissolve away that stubborn dead skin cell buildup on skin’s surface that can make skin look dull.
Anti-aging skin care routine tweak #3: Add in a serum. Before you apply your face moisturizer, consider applying an anti-aging serum to your skin. Serums are lightweight, so they’re great to layer under your heavier creams. They are also typically formulated with higher concentrations of ingredients, so they can address those common signs of skin aging compared to simply using your face cream alone.
Anti-aging skin care routine tweak #4: Always apply SPF. The sun’s harmful rays can be a main culprit behind the early-on development of most of the common signs of skin aging. If you already have wrinkles, age spots or sagging skin you may think that the damage has been done, so why bother with SPF now? Even if you already are experiencing these signs of skin aging you should keep in mind that they can worsen and SPF can help protect your skin.
Anti-aging skin care routine tweak #5: Wear an eye cream if you aren’t already. The skin around your eyes is typically dry and delicate, so it may need a little extra attention as you age. An anti-aging product worth looking into, eye cream formulas can help address fine lines, wrinkles, dryness and puffiness in this area.
Anti-aging skin care routine tweak #6: Layer moisture at night. Surge your skin with moisture by layering your moisturizing anti-aging products at night. After cleansing, first apply your serum, then your night cream and eye cream and seal in all of that added moisture by applying a final layer of facial oil.
While you may not be able to change the fact that your skin is aging, you can make a few simple changes to your skin care routine to address the new anti-aging needs you have.
