How do you feel about simplifying your makeup look while still making a statement? Pretty good, right? That’s what we thought! Well, that’s the entire idea behind the monochromatic makeup trend. You can cut out all the guess work of deciding which eye makeup shades and lip colors to pair together—you already know they’ll be the same. And yet, you’ll still end up with an eye-catching makeup look. Basically, what’s not to like? If you’re ready to put monochromatic makeup to the test, read on to find out how to create a monochromatic burgundy makeup look.
In reality, you can’t have every single product you use be burgundy. You’ll need to start by creating a normal, natural base. To do that, begin by applying makeup primer in your preferred finish—either the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Lock Makeup Primer or L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow Lock Makeup Primer. Then, apply the coordinating foundation, whether that’s the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation or L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Glow Foundation. You’re almost done with your base, just use the L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Super-Blendable Multi-Use Concealer to cover up any imperfections you can still see, then it’s on to your next step.
One more step before we can get to your burgundy products! To pull your look together, you’ll want to fill in your eyebrows. Of course, you won’t want your eyebrows to totally steal the spotlight. Instead of filling them in for a super-bold look, create a subtle, brushed-up eyebrow. How, you ask? Brush the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Boost & Set Brow Mascara through your eyebrows in short, upward strokes to boost the appearance of volume.
On an everyday basis, you probably reach for black—maybe brown—mascara to coat your lashes. But why not mix it up? Instead of applying mascara in a completely expected color, use burgundy mascara. Try the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara in Deep Burgundy, which separates and builds lashes for a full look in a surprising shade. Once you’ve pulled the brush through your upper lashes, don’t forget to coat your lower lashes, too.
Editor’s tip: Want your lashes to look even longer? Instead of searching high and low for burgundy falsies, layer a coat of the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Primer underneath your mascara.
Moving onto your lips, it’s only natural that they’d be burgundy, too! And instead of jumping right into applying your lipstick, you’ll want to line your lips. It’ll help your lip color last longer and prevent bleeding—which can be pretty unsightly and obvious with a burgundy lipstick. Line around the perimeter of your lips with the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lip Liner in Truly Burgundy, before using the lip liner to fill in your lips in completely.
Now, layer a burgundy lipstick over top of your lip liner. As for what to use, we recommend a long-lasting formula like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Liquid Lipstick in Stirred. Apply starting in the center of your upper lip. Work from the center to the outer edges, following the contour of your mouth. Then, glide across your bottom lip and fill in.
Obviously, you don’t want your burgundy makeup look to fade away as the day (or night) goes on. That’s why you should be sure to set your makeup before heading out the door. Dust a light layer of the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Sweep & Lock Loose Setting Face Powder over your face with a fluffy makeup brush, or use a few spritzes of the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray to help lock in your look. Either way, you won’t have to worry about your burgundy makeup budging.
