5 Gemstone-Inspired Makeup Looks 5 Gemstone-Inspired Makeup Looks 5 Gemstone-Inspired Makeup Looks

If we’re being honest, we’d love having jewelry box upon jewelry box stocked with pieces made up of gorgeous gemstones. Sadly, that isn’t as easily attainable as one would hope. On the bright side, we’ve come up with a compromise. When you can’t cover your neck, wrists, ears, and hands in crystals, your best bet is to take inspiration from the stones and use them as muses for your makeup. Keep reading for our five favorite gemstone-inspired makeup looks. You’ll love these takes on being dressed up in jewels.

Gemstone-Inspired Makeup Look #1: Ruby Red Lips

Red lips are a classic—and that’s reason enough to don ruby red lipstick. Find a red shade that matches the stone and give your pout a pop of color.

Step 1: Line your lips. When you’re wearing red lipstick, the last thing you want is for your color to bleed (well, besides maybe ending up with lipstick on your teeth!). Prevent feathering and worn off color by lining your lips in a coordinating lip liner color, like the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Matte Lip Liner in In-Matte-Uated With You.

Step 2: Apply lipstick. Reach for a lipstick that resembles a ruby, and apply starting in the center of your upper lip. Work from the center to outer edges, following the contour of your mouth. Try the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Matte Lipstick in Matte-Traction Red.

Step 3: Add gloss. If you’re partial to matte makeup, skip this step. Otherwise, to achieve the same level of shine as your glimmering jewels, add a layer of the L’Oréal Paris Infallible 8 HR Le Gloss in Rebel Red.

Gemstone-Inspired Makeup Look #2: Emerald Eyes

Whether you’re considering a first foray into vibrant eye shadow or already a master of playing with pigment, emerald green eyes are a solid choice.

Step 1: Prime lids. Don’t begin an eye shadow look without priming your eyes. Smooth a primer from your lids to your brow bone to help prep your lids for makeup application.

Step 2: Apply eye shadow. Now, you’re ready to get colorful. Apply the L’Oréal Paris Infallible 24 HR Eye Shadow in Golden Emerald to your lids, and use a fluffy blending brush to buff out any harsh lines.

Step 3: Tightline. You can wear eyeliner without letting it steal the spotlight from your shadow. Create an “invisible eyeliner” effect by lining along your upper waterline with the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Silkissime Eyeliner in Black. The subtle shading will create the appearance of fuller lashes, a.k.a, it’s a total liner hack. Step 4: Coat your lashes. OK, what’s an eye look without a coat (or two) of mascara? Grab the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara and swipe the brush from root to tip to give your lashes the look of amplified volume and length.

Gemstone-Inspired Makeup Look #3: Lapis Liner

Gemstone-inspired color can be too much to place all over, which is why you may want to opt for more concentrated color. Swipe lapis along your lash line for an eye-catching look.

Step 1: Prime your lids. Remember, eye primer isn’t only for eye shadow. Blend a small amount over your lids before breaking out your eyeliner.

Step 2: Line your eyes. With a bold blue, lapis-like liner, make a line above your upper lash line and continue it into a point to create a cat eye. Draw your wing with the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints Eyeliner in Electric Blue.

Step 3: Coat your lashes. You know the drill: It’s time for mascara. With the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara, emphasize your lashes to complete this makeup look.

Gemstone-Inspired Makeup Look #4: Rose Quartz Cheeks

Not every crystal has to have bright color. When you want something subtler, like for your cheeks, take inspiration from soft pink rose quartz.

Step 1: Brush on blush. Find a baby pink blush, like the L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Blush in Baby Blossom, and sweep it onto the apples of your cheeks.

Step 2: Contour. Pieces of rose quartz often have sharp angles and edges, which is why you’ll want your cheekbones to have the same. Use the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Contour Palette to sculpt and define your face.

Step #3: Set with spray. Obviously, we don’t want your blush to budge. Spritz with the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray to help lock your look in place.

Gemstone-Inspired Makeup Look #5: Pearlescent Glow

Get your glow on, just like a gemstone. For a classy and chic highlight, pick a product that mimics the sheen of a pearl.

Step #1: Mix illuminator and foundation. For all over luminosity, mix a few drops of the L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator in Ice into your favorite foundation, then apply all over your face, being sure to blend onto your neck.

Step #2: Highlight high points. Sometimes one glow-getter just isn’t enough. Upgrade your highlight by adding the L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Lumi Powder Glow Illuminator in Ice to highpoints like above your cheekbones and down the bridge of your nose.
