How to Wear Violet Lipstick How to Wear Violet Lipstick How to Wear Violet Lipstick

If you’re in search for the hottest lipstick shade to wear in 2018, look no further. We’ve found the lip look you absolutely need to try right now: vibrant violet. This trendy hue can take just about any style from drab to fab—in as long as it takes you to coat your lips in color. We’re sharing not one, but two ways to add violet lipstick into your makeup routine (including the best face makeup and eye makeup to pair it with). Keep reading to find out how to rock a pumped-up purple shade, in both a glossy and a matte finish.

How to wear glossy violet lipstick

If you’re partial to a glossy lip look, this one’s for you. The star of the show? None other than the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints/Lip in Violet Twist. The seriously shiny purple lipstick is ideal for whenever you want to make a statement.

Step 1: Apply BB cream. Work your way from the base up. That means kicking things off with BB cream, a multitasking beauty product that can save you time on your makeup routine. Using your fingers, blend the L’Oréal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream into your skin.

Step 2: Brush on blush. Often overlooked, blush can actually be a key cosmetic to use anytime you’re dolling yourself up. Swipe one on the apples of cheeks to liven up the appearance of your complexion with a touch of color. Rather than sticking with standard shades of pink or peach, tie your look together with a pigmented plum option.

Step 3: Get your glow on. Your cheeks aren’t complete just yet. Illuminate the look of your face with the L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Lumi Glotion Natural Glow Enhancer. Dot the liquid highlighter above your cheekbones, blending out with the pad of your finger. Place the highlighter down the bridge of your nose, along your cupid’s bow, and on the inner corners of your eyes to give yourself even more of a faux glow.

Step 4: Add eye shadow. When wearing a bold lip color, it’s a good rule of thumb to use neutral hues elsewhere. For eye shadow, stick with neatural tones and nudes, like the ones found in the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadows collection. Place a light shade, like Little Beige Dress, on your lids and below your brows, before blending a matte brown, like Acro-Matte, into your crease.

Step 5: Tightline. The “invisible eyeliner” effect—tightlining—makes for fuller-looking lashes, without needing to perfect your liquid liner skills. Pull up gently on your eyelid to expose the upper waterline, where the base of your lashes are. With your eyeliner (choose a pencil that’s super-soft and doesn’t tug), carefully line directly on the base of your lashes, filling in any gaps between individual hairs. Try the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Waterproof Pencil Eyeliner in Black.

Step 6: Coat lashesMascara is nothing short of a necessity, and this look is no exception. Sweep your favorite formula from the base of your lashes to the tips, and add an extra coat for extra emphasis. You can’t go wrong with the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara.

Step 7: Apply violet lipstick. It’s time! We can’t forget the most important part of a purple lip look—violet lipstick. Pick up the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints/Lip in Violet Twist, and use the tip of the doe foot applicator to outline your lips, then fill them in. There you go: your pout is now perfectly purple.

Step 8: Spritz setting spray. What good is a makeup look that isn’t locked in place? Mist your face with the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray, using “X” and “T” motions to help set your makeup.

How to Wear matte violet lipstick

Moving on! For this lip look, the scene stealer is the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Matte Lipstick in Matte-Jestic. The rich puple is not only the shade of the season, but it comes in a matte formula that won’t dry out your lips. To rock this matte violet lipstick, follow these simple steps.

Step 1: Apply foundation. Match the finish of your foundation to your lipstick, reaching for matte makeup, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation. Buff the foundation into your skin using the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Blend Artist Foundation Blender to achieve smooth, even coverage.

Step 2: Set with face powder. If you want your look to last, follow foundation with powder. So, apply the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Powder overtop of your foundation.

Step 3: Brush on blush. To help keep your face from falling flat, apply a blush with a bit of luminosity to your cheeks. Try the L’Oréal Paris True Match™ Blush.

Step 4: Contour and highlight. Define your face with the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Contour Palette. Start with the lighter shade, highlighting and adding extra dimension to the high points of your face. Then, accentuate the contours of your face, like your cheekbones, with the darker powder.

Step 5: Create a cat eye. Keeping the rest of your makeup simple, allows your eyeliner and lipstick make a statement. With a felt tip eyeliner, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible The Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner, draw a thin line along your lashes, extending it into a sharp wing.

Step 6: Coat your lashes. Don’t leave out your lashes. For big, bold lashes, grab the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous X Fiber Mascara and get to work. It features a black primer on one end and a fiber-infused mascara on the other.

Step 7: Line your lips. You’ve almost made it to the end of the line—but first, lip liner. Find a shade similar to your lipstick (such as the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Matte Lip Liner in Strike a Matte-ch), and use the lip liner to prime and line your lips.

Step 8: Apply violet lipstick. Put purple on your pout using the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Matte Lipstick in Matte-Jestic. Apply starting in the center of your upper lip, then work from the center to outer edges of your lips, following the contour of your mouth. Perfect: Now you can pucker up!
