There's no doubt that lipstick is the hero product in many a makeup bag. This, we guess, is due largely in part to the idea that changing your lip color is one of the easiest, most transformative ways to mix up your look.
But did you know that lipstick has other (super) powers, too? Yep, the right shade can showcase your mood -- pink equals flirty, red projects confidence, and deep burgundy oozes sex appeal. It can also help make your teeth look whiter, your pout seem fuller and your skin appear flawless.
What we're saying, in case you haven't picked up on it, is that we're kind of obsessed with lipstick. And for spring, there's a whole new crop of colors we're dying to try. From the über-minimal to the more extreme, here's a crash course on the most covetable spring lip colors.
We're constantly hunting for the perfect red, but in truth, there are lots of shades that fit the bill. For winter, our ideal crimson skews a bit more burgundy, but in spring, we like to lighten things up with a poppier color.
This candy-apple shade fits the bill. It has a blue undertone, which is ""scientifically"" responsible for making your teeth appear whiter, and because it's long-wear, it won't mar your smile with smudges either.
This hue gives new meaning to the term ""barely-there makeup,"" as this lip color (a nude that matches your skin tone versus matching your lip tone) will make your pout almost invisible.
Whether you're playing up your eyes or planning to keep your look more minimal, this color is a safe choice.
We're still sweet on Pantone's color of the year (hey, what's not to like about wine, ahem, Marsala?), but right now, we're loving it with a hint of ombre to give your pout some pizzazz and -- bonus -- a plumping effect.
Start with a deep ruby base. Then use a slightly lighter but still violet-undertoned hue to accent just the center of your lower lip. Set your look with makeup setting spray, and voilà -- subtle, full-looking, lips.
This fiery shade of orange has a more playful energy. It's a perfect daytime ""red"" and looks great on all skin tones, though we love it best on girls with dark olive complexions.
Twentysomethings, feel free to go a bit flirty -- pair tangerine lips with neon nails and lilac lids. If you're on the more mature side, try a sophisticated spin with flawless foundation and lush, black lashes.
